  1. So we got my wife's EAD expedited and got the approval (based on financial hardship due to a job offer she could miss out on). It was approved on the 24th of June, and the NOA stated the dates were from then to June of next year, but so far, we have not received the card. We had gotten help from our congresswoman's office for the expedite, and my wife asked the guy who handled our request in the congressional office if she could start working while waiting for the card. His response was, "As for working, that would be a decision of the your [sic] employer."

That seemed a little indirect of a response to me. He seems to be indicating that she is legally able to work if the employer is amenable, but of course they are amenable. They made her a job offer! They want her working for them. And he didn't directly address the legality of it. He just said it's a decision for the employer. It makes me wonder if he understood the question or actually has given her the correct answer. So I'm submitting the same question here in the forums for hopefully a more straightforward response. My wife's EAD application has been approved. We have a NOA stating as much, but we don't have the EAD card yet. Can she start working?

Correct. You only need an I-693 signed off by a CS for the vaccinations.

Finding a CS willing to do that can be difficult. You may need to call around. Most don't know and/or don't care about the vaccinations-only option for K-1 holders (K-1 is by far a minority of AOS cases).

Yes. This has been my experience. I have been calling, but none of them seems willing to do it or aware of this. And I probably haven’t been asking clearly enough either. Also one or two have implied that they couldn’t trust work done by another physician for the medical exam in signing off on the I-693. But again this might be a lack of clarity on my part in the explaining that it’s just the vaccinations we need signed off on.

Huh, with the federal employee benefits system we have something like 12+ plans to choose from and I think there is only one that would cover anything beyond a flu shot for free, for adults at least. And it’s the most expensive, understandably. The rise of high deductible, or just deductible-based health plans in general made me question where someone could get all the vaccinations asked for covered. That sounds great.

It was definitely much cheaper for my husband to get them abroad. Socialized medicine and what not ;).

We actually were able to get all four of my wife’s vaccinations for $0 out of pocket. Immunizations are a free benefit with any Obamacare plan, provided it is in network. For us that meant going to CVS instead of Walgreens or Advent Health. The biggest trouble was having to go to three different stores to get all four shots (a friend called around for us to find which ones had each in stock).

    Welll....maybe.

The 693 has the vaccination record.  If you did not get/start your shots (you can refuse them) you will then need to get the vaccinations is the US (where they are 100% free).  But the shot record is not the I-693 and the only person who can transcribe them from the medical record to the 693 is a CS.  MOST CS charge a SMALL fee to transcribe (there is actually a thread with people reporting who and costs... search for  "Civil Surgeons who don't rip you off" as the thread topic) them onto the official form without a physical because the original 'K1' screening.

Most overseas CS are ripping people off left and right be saying the shots are required.  THEY ARE NOT.  Not for the K1.  They ARE for the AOS.

Yes. This is what we need. She just got her vaccinations here in the states, not in Ecuador. As I understand it we need the record of them for the AOS

Also I was wrong about her still having the sealed envelope (communication, right?). She told me they took it and opened it as the consulate. But she does not have a copy of the contents either. They wouldn’t give it to her at the medical exam and in fact told her they could not.

You can't avoid the $1000,  the AOS fee is $1225

I’m actually not talking about the filing fee. We have budgeted for that. I am talking about the penalty fee that lets you file if you miss the 90 day deadline. But apparently that is only for missing the deadline to marry not to file.

Thanks for all the responses. To clarify, my wife did get her medical exam done in Ecuador, but we just got her vaccinations yesterday. The guide on this site says we still need to get that signed off on by a civil surgeon on the I-693, but we don’t need the medical exam. I haven’t read all the responses yet, but there seems to be some debate on that point. We do appreciate all the help.

If she still has the sealed envelope, send that with her AOS application. If she has the completed DS-3025, send that.

She does not need a new medical, and you don't need a civil surgeon to sign off on anything.

If she handed the envelope over at the POE, the information will be in her file already. You can include in your cover letter that her medical was already completed overseas.

I would not try to get another medical done, or get another I-693 without being specifically told to do so. Worst thing that can happen is that they will request a new medical at the interview (but they shouldn't), and then you can take care of it.

Sorry for the confusion. We’re not getting another I-693. We haven’t filed it yet. We are filing it with the AOS.

No need for a new medical if it was done less than 1 year before filling for AOS. The doctor that did it in my country gave me an envelope with a copy of the results to send with my AOS, is that the envelope you’re talking about ?

You know we don't need it. I know we don't need it. It's the doctor's offices I am trying to convince. She apparently did not get a copy of the results. And in fact the panel physician said or implied that they could not give it to her.

So she still has the sealed envelope? I thought that the envelope has to be handed over at the POE...

    Does she have a DS-3025?

Honestly, I will have to go through her stuff to be sure. Thanks!

  7. Okay, so my wife is in the process of applying for her AOS. Her K1 expires January 30, so it is crunch time (we would certainly like to avoid the $1000 fee). I have been guiding her through the steps of this process ever since I filed a petition for her over a year ago. It's gone pretty smoothly overall. She got her K1, moved here in November. We got married a week later. We're working on getting the AOS app in. But I keep running into a wall on one form: the I-693.

Everything I have read tells me that, since she had the medical exam with the panel physician in Ecuador, we don't need a medical exam. But as I call civil surgeon offices here in Orlando, it seems like no one is willing to sign off on the I-693 without also administering the blood tests and things which she has ALREADY received! She has the sealed envelope from the panel physician. But she doesn't have an unsealed copy. So do we just need to go to the civil surgeon office (or make an appointment) and hand them what we have and hope for the best? If we don't need the medical exam (particularly if we can get out for less money, since one income living is difficult in this town) I would like to avoid it. Any ideas or anyone know of a doctor we can turn to in this neck of the woods?

Thanks in advance! VJ has been the best help in this whole process over the last year and some, and I am truly thankful for all of you!

  8. I'm applying for my fiancee and my marriage license in Florida, and I had a question concerning her address. She and her mom are staying with me at our apartment, and I have already gotten her set up on my bank account and with a cell phone. But technically she is not yet a resident, because she will be applying for adjustment of status after we get married Saturday.

So my question is, which address should I give for her? Her address in Ecuador (since officially she's still a resident) or our address here in Florida (since it's where she is actually located and will be living)?

  9. Okay, so this may not be a big deal at all, but my fiancee is a little concerned about it, so I thought I would ask.

Her interview at the consulate is the day after tomorrow. Everything seems good overall, but she was a little concerned that her father (who lives in Miami) had moved (addresses, not cities; he's still in Miami) since she put in her application. He was living with his sister, but since the application was filed he got a place of his own. So the question is: Should she update them at the interview of the change in information? And how should she update it?

It's not exactly a major piece of information directly concerning either of us, but it is about an immediate family member who lives in the States, so I'm not really sure how important this is. Obviously we don't want any issues about falsifications or difficulties confirming information, but at this point is this even of any importance? Are we inviting more difficulty by correcting it? Like I say, the interview is Wednesday the 31, so some timely advice would be helpful. Thanks!

Hey guys!!! We had our interview yesterday and we got approved!!! However the CO never asked for the I-134 or something other financial doc!!! And the CEAC is still showing "READY" online.

I wish y'all the best in your processes!!!

Congratulations! Has it been updated yet.

    Our interview is Wednesday!

Congrats!!! We also got a spot on the same day!!! The best for you in the interview!!!!

Actually it turns out we did not get the spot. My fiancée went out to pay cash for the interview, the payment was accepted, but when she came back to set the appointment there were now no interview appointments available.

Oh well! At least the payment is in. So hopefully this won’t happen next time.
