  1. I uploaded my documents to CEAC twice and the embassy told me to email them to them as they couldn't see them, so I did.

I still had issues with my father-in-laws tax return showing up in the system, and they didn't have one of my police checks either. I took an absolute mountain of copies (along with the originals) and I handed the missing ones over to the officer. No problems at all doing that.

  2. How about health insurance? That's the #1 thing on my list along with getting a bank account.

And, what others said, you have to file taxes MARRIED separately/jointly if you guys are married. I think it'd be an offense to mark otherwise.

Either way @juninho10 will have to pay taxes on the income he is earning right now, correct?

Would he have the option of paying US taxes (and not file a 2555 if he files MFJ) or would it be better to get the UK taxes squared away?

Correct. As that's an issue for HMRC/UK, would there be any relevance in getting UK taxes squared away for the IRS and US system?

It would be truly mind-boggling to me if the US took any interest in where I was or wasn't paying tax before becoming a US resident.

    “Here” being what country?

Sorry, I mean the UK. I've been in the country for about 80-90 days. I was under the impression that you had to be in the country for at least 183 days in a calendar year to be considered a tax resident in the UK. I was previously in Colombia for about 7-8 months of the year.

To me, it would make perfect sense for the IRS to start taxing me the minute I receive a green card or arrive in the country. I don't understand why anything prior to that would be of interest to them. That's how it works for foreigners coming to the UK to live.

  5. Did anyone with a rearranged appointment get this email?

We are contacting you regarding your upcoming consular appointment at the U.S. Embassy London, currently scheduled for October 19, 2021 at 09:00 am.

Please log on to your CEAC account https://ceac.state.gov/IV/Login.aspx and upload the following documents:

    •             Form I-864 and your petitioner’s most recent tax returns;

    •             All your civil documents such as: birth certificate, marriage certificate, police certificate.

When I login, it shows all my stuff in the system with 'ACCEPTED' next to it already. Once again, incredibly confusing.

You will only be taxed by one country. There’s a tax treaty to prevent double taxation. You will report all earnings for the tax year 2021 (Jan-Dec) to the IRS, but reporting is not the same as being taxed.  Doesn’t matter where earned or if paid in $ or £, you tell the IRS about the value in US dollars, then can exclude your foreign income or take a credit for foreign taxes paid. There are multiple strategies. Any money that goes into your account after you move is US taxable. If you go through this tax forum back to threads from tax season like Jan, Feb 2021, you will find similar questions asked and explained. Or just wait until filing gets in high gear in 3-4 months and check this forum.

Meanwhile, bring some kind of record with you of how much gross income you made since Jan 1 of this year. It will help you know what to report when the time comes. Your company can probably  give you a breakdown.

Thanks! I’ll look out for the threads that pop-up.

It’s complicated but I haven’t been paying tax on the UK this year, so I wonder if that will still exclude me from paying US taxes for the first 10 months of the year considering I wasn’t a US resident at that time.

Unbelievable. My husband is in St. Andrews and was on his way to Edinburgh to catch a flight to London when he got the email. He ended up not going to the airport and getting a voucher for his flight but the hotel doesn’t want to refund him. What drives me crazy is that if they knew this last Friday when they called you, why did they wait so long to tell us?? If he had known yesterday he could have canceled his hotel and got a refund. I tried calling the embassy but couldn’t get through to anyone after 30min on hold. And now he has to reschedule a medical that will hopefully coincide with his new appointment?? I don’t understand! Telling myself everything happens for a reason but would just like some answers. When my husband told the medical people what happened (he called to cancel because his medical was supposed to be tomorrow too) they were very surprised and said that was unheard of.

Sending you good vibes that it all gets sorted out soon, please keep us updated if you hear anything and we will do the same. :(

Because we are dealing with the understaffed and incompetent entity that is the NVC. Don't bother phoning the London embassy as it seems nigh on impossible that you can get through to speak to a person.

They're a bit more responsive if you email them, as they normally get back to you in 1-2 business days. I'll be bothering them on Monday if they fail to ring my today / this week like they said they would when they rang me last week. This is their email if you don't already have it:

    londoninfounit@state.gov
Same to you! I'll keep you posted if I end up hearing something from them.

We got this in an email literally as my husband was arriving at the airport. Now has to cancel his medical which was scheduled for tomorrow too and trying to get refunds for flight and hotel. Have you heard anymore?? Were you able to reschedule yet??

No - it's a joke! They rang me last Friday and said they would ring this week to sort something out. Well, here we are on Thursday and...nothing! I emailed on Monday to get confirmation of cancellation as I was just totally bamboozled by the Friday phone call and how unofficial it all seemed:

We can confirm that your appointment was canceled and that we are working on the technical issue that prevents us from accessing your case.

As soon as the situation is resolved we will contact you to schedule an interview.

I'm frustrated as I have to take a 100 quid train (if I'm lucky...) down to London each time, so can't imagine how you two are feeling trying to coordinate this circus from abroad. It's been pinned on my Case ID not transferring through to London. I wonder if that relates to me transferring my case from Colombia to the UK 2-3 months ago.

This has been my motto throughout this whole 14 month long process 😂

Sorry to hear that’s happened to you, I can imagine it’s very frustrating to make a plan and then have to change it. I know it will all work out quickly :)

Just the 26 months for me. Is there an end to this absolute madness?

  10. Has anyone else just had a call from the embassy to say not to come to the interview? They said mine has been cancelled and not to come as scheduled on Monday. They said they're working on it and they'll ring me to let me know next week. The reason is that the system "isn't recognizing the case number and it's happening to a few people, so don't come on Monday."

The phone number checks out as legit: +44 20 7499 9000.

They said that I'll be able to come 'any time' once it's sorted out and I won't need an appointment. Do these people genuinely think we just live around the corner and can pop by as we wish? Disgraceful.

Laugh or you might just cry. 😂

  11. Hi guys,

Do I need to present a print-out of the I-864 at the IR-1 interview? I no longer have my wife's I-864 on my computer. I have the other sponsor's (Father-in-Law) and I have both their tax returns.

When I log in to CEAC, I can download all of my personal uploads to my computer. However, I am not able to do this with the petitioner's and sponsor's.

That’s really two separate things. Register your appointment date. And at same time make arrangements with the courier for passport delivery or pick up at a depot. One is not faster than the other.

Correct. It should be ready to accept you by tomorrow.

Good to know - cheers! I'll try to register it tomorrow then. I wasn't sure if I had to register my appointment or not as they'd already specified a date, but thanks for the tip-off.

None if this applies to a DCF Case,  DQ is for USCIS stateside processing that is passed on the NVCDCF does not go to NVC.   DCF sets their own interview date via the website.   DCF doesn't take 17 months unless it is slowed down by petitioner.

Contact the consulate.  Chances are it isn't coded correctly.   They can also set the date for you.   It might take a few calls to find someone who understands it.

I stand corrected then! Disregard the info in my post.

Sorry, I saw the OP had posted in the IR-1/CR-1 thread with the same question, and thought they were pushed to start their own thread as it was off topic.

  14. I received the email to say my interview is 4-OCT and I booked a medical for the week before.

Do I have to register my visa interview online, or is that already taken care of?

EDIT: Just figured it out! You have to register so they can send your passport back to you:

    https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Supplements/Supplements_by_Post/LND-London.html

    https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-gb/iv

Looks like I'm a bit too eager. That website says my case isn't ready to register an appointment. CEAC still says I'm at the NVC stage, so I'm assuming it'll take a few days to pass through that for me to to register it.
