Here is a tip for using another feature here on VJ. Use the tools here in VJ to answer "when I am going to get etc. etc." question. Near your picture there is a link for your timeline. Select it and once you're on the next page near your picture  you will see "follow similar timelines" and it will populate 12 other couples who are near your dates. Scroll down and you will see a "spreadsheet" style page showing all the variables for measurement for when others are getting the same notice of approval or action.  Try it. It really works!

I followed those that were in my group to give me an idea where they were in processing so I could judge if I was ahead or behind.  It's pretty accurate, maybe within a day or so.  If you choose to follow those twelve members then you will get an email every time their status updates.

Have fun with this new found information.

This is fantastic! Thanks for sharing

They will know right from I-129F that there is a potential K2 dependant who may or may not come to the US. We preferred to frontload and filed with my kids' passports and birth certificates. They will know at the Embassy that a child is coming when you file a separate DS-160 for them and they have their medical. The child is adjudicated as a beneficiary's derivative, therefore just follow the I-129F instructions precisely and you will be fine. When it comes to interview, check instructions on your country embassy website, they normally post a checklist which explains how to deal with a K2 kid. As mentioned above, be sure you have complied with local child protection law before the interview and be ready to submit another parent's consent for the child to immigrate, if that is the case with your country.

ok great. Thanks for the insight. Just wanted to be sure I didn't miss anything

No need for anything else at this point. After the i129f is approved and sent to nvc, the embassy will get it and they will know there’s a dependent (k2) so that’s when you have to prepare docs, take the medical and have an interview

    Ok great. Thanks

Is the child mother 100% ok with the child leaving?

Unfortunately, she passed away 2 years ago

  4. Hello everyone,

I'm new here and in the process of gathering all the documents needed to submit the I-129F forms for the K1 Visa. I'm hoping to send it in within the next week. This is to bring my fiance and his son (3 years old) here as they currently live in Ghana. I've completed the I-129F form which includes my fiance as the beneficiary and his son as a dependent. Do I include copies of the son's passport sized pictures, birth certificate etc. in documents I send out initially? I know the son will be using the K2 Visa but I guess I'm confused as to how they'll know that we want to file for the son as well. Can someone who's been through this process help explain this to me please?

    Thanks in advance.
