Wow! Just checked this thread after months. Didnt realize there were so many CR1's with interview....woo hoo!! Yall had some long waits!!
Good luck to IW all all the futures interviewees. Trust me the interview is a piece of cake. If anything, its our nerves that make it so difficult. not the interview itself.

I think that it fine to move there. You just have to have a plan of action for when the time comes to move back here. Can you take a hiatus from your job for a few months, or can you plan to get a job at least 2 months prior to him arriving. All you really have to do is prove domicile and that you make above the poverty guidelines. You can do this with assets like a house, or business, or you can try for a co-sponsor to supplement your income. The idea of moving to stay with your spouse during the wait is perfectly normal. Many people on VJ do it. Maybe you should try the DCF or Direct Consular Filing thread topics. This could give you some insight on what others have done in your situation.

GOODNESS.. that is what i am afraid of jawi LOL.. rg told me to wear my hair TALL too this last trip, one of my trips I had a sew in weave, and he was like, "do that again"
sometimes I am accomadating, but i was in this whole "wear my own hair" spell so I had a frohawk..
he said he liked it tho, i hope he wasnt trying to be nice
A thought I had a jerry curl because of my natural curl pattern. But, it is just my hair...he had to see me wash it and use conditioner before he believed that I didn't have a jerry curl. LOL. He doesn't even like when I do braids...but when he saw how long it takes for me to do my own hair...or that I was never ready on time...he conceded to the braids in Jamaica at least. In Canada my own hair only. I'm okay with it though because he loves to play in it. I love a man's hands in my hair...I could sleep for ages. *sigh*
When we went to Negril...my hair was shoulder length and very curly...I styled it in a mohawk for a night at the Jungle. It was long like a curly horse mane. Jamaican men LOVED it. I got compliments all night. A wouldn't even let me go to the restroom alone. LOL I came out of the restroom and he was there waiting to escort me back across the floor.
I had to cut my hair because the color dried out my hair and it started breaking. I hate damaged hair...so I cut it and PERMED it. I hate that I did that now...but I can't start over again...unless I want a divorce before we even get married.
Evan liked my hair "tall" too. Only thing is, he NEVER saw me with straight hair in person til he moved here. I cannot straighten it in JA weather, so it was always a curly and natural out there. He just saw it straight in pics. He was always against me going natural or cutting, or dreading my hair. He thought that dreads were not attractive since thats all he ever saw in JA, and most times they were not kept up to his liking. But.....now that he has been here, seen me take the long time to straighten it, and also seen many woman with amazing dreads, he's ok with me doing the natural dread style.
All I know is, when I move to JA, i will have dreads in my head.
Damien saw my hair straight for first time the day we got married. He couldn't believe it....stared at me for hours.
Hahaha, yup, Evan too. He say me the first time the night i picked him up from the airport. It was kinda frizzy straight then too, cause I hadnt straightened it in sooo long, it was tough.

Hey Ladies,
Just stoppin in to say hello, since I had a bit of slow time this am.
How's everyone!
Dance, girl, good for you. I am pro natural hair. You just dont realize how freeing it makes you til you do it. I've never in life permed my hair, but I always got it pressed or then I went to just flat ironing it with ceramic, now I just do natural wet sets, or i flat iron it every so often so that I can trim the ends. Its grown ALOT, and I really dont want that cause I love the Rhianna style, but I know if i did that it would be a nightmare to keep up. So I just go for the curly wild child look.

I know there are women who do this too, but I was just talking men specifically to our issues here on the Yardie thread. I just dont get it. When they get here , they are sorely suprised that its not all its craked up to be. U would think word has gotten back to Yaad about how farrin nuh go so.
exactly ! and he obviously didn't believe what his wife has been tellin him
Very tru! I think its so ridiculous, but also causes alot of annoyance. I know it causes me annoyance.
-
I dont think its love, but just the JA vibes. That island can make u love crazy it seems for some. Its such a different world when you come to reality of real life here in the states. I mean, I went to JA, on vacations. Even if I wasnt staying in hotels and such, it was still JA, and I was in the sun, on the sand at times, smelling the sweet air, not at my job, with a man I love....that can wack your brain out if your not prepared for it.
I think that BB, should really understand that. If I go to the freaking DR and meet a guy under the same setting. Its really the setting initially that grabs you not the man! And it definitely takes a few times out there to see which one is the one you're basing your feelings off of.
I mean, I love JA! Even with all its #######!! and it got alot of #######, but I love that place! My man, is from that place, but he is not in JA anymore. So when thinking of marrying, you need to think, how will this man be in the environment of the US, my friends, my family. Will he survive here, and will that charming tour guide mentality be enough to sustain your marriage when he's in the US and not under the same JA spell.

Ok so, I gotta hot topic:
Are these guys complete sociopaths or what? I mean, how can they play this whole perfect man attitude, love you up, sex you down, and have no real feelings for you. To me its like a hooker on the street corner with her John.
I keep seeing these posts of folks whos marriage has gone bad within a year or less of him being here, and then he either leaves or they get divorced or whatever. But the way the guy is described is like he did a complete 180 on his attitude toward the woman. Yet.....before the marriage, or before he got here, when she was visiting him, he was so romantic, and treated her great, and loved her up and sexed her down. So was he hookin' and she was the John?
I mean, you gotta be a real deranged lunatic to use somebody like that. So I wonder if these guys are sociopaths.

Lovesponge, I can only speak of myself. i was in no way judging her. She started a couple of threads and I mentioned a couple of serious things to her. We can all sit here and act like we're these "without issues" individuals but we all know we are not. Where I'm coming from is the simple fact that she had no clue Jamaican is not a language, come on lets be real. mi know mi chat nuff, but sometimes some ppl need fi get things put in their faces to bring light to what they did see.
I just felt bad cause, I feel like she might not come back or get the wrong idea of us. Maybe we should have gotten to know her and her situation a little more before we start offering opinions.
ok, now I feel really bad too. I didnt know all the history here. I just saw the post she made here, and then the thread on the mail and I just thought it was a troll or something.
I hope she does come back, cause it seems that the thread could help her learn alot about JA, or at least alot about the process of visas and JA relationships.
mi offer lessons aready
..oonuh tap feel bad man..a reality ..seriously..oonuh claim wi a family..wouldn't ur family laugh at if uy no know wah u soon to be husband speak
ahaa, yes!! Mi nah cuss, but mi a cuss mi 2 lil sista dem all the time when dem chat pure foolishness!!

don't get me wrong sus i have not prejudge her relationship nor the direction it's going in. i am just saying that learning patois here is probably the only unmistaken truth she can get here. cause even hearing our story can only be a measuring stick not her truth
I agree with you, Jakeswife - But I think that talking to others who are in similar relationships can be a helpful thing - Because people that aren't in LDRs, or dealing with the ups and downs of immigration, esp. JA specific - aren't going to get it.
I also think there are a lot of unmistaken truths that can be learned here other than patois
oh yes !
ok, i'm confused. Whats an unmistaken truth?
-
Eeehhhnnn. I'm a little shocked at all the people making fun of her though. How many of us on here can say after the first or second trip, you really knew all about Jamaican culture and patois? Not, including our Jamaican residents. Heck, some of you still don't know it.
When I posted to the other woman to take her time...it was too harsh...it wasn't welcoming. We ran her off. But, you guys feel okay to talk about her and make jokes...sounds a little hypocritical to me. *shrug* I guess.
Again, me nuh beg friend...but oonu need fe check yuhselves.
I agree Jawi - we all know how easy it is to get caught up in the island romance - this is a great place to learn the good and the bad, the ups and the downs and become more informed -
Ok, I just wanted to know if this was for real cause it seemed a little crazy to me...thats all I'm saying. I think its seems odd to be marrying a person that you seem to not know much about where they come from thats all. Yes lots of folks learned alot while on here, but they were just dating right, not about to commit to the person forever. I REALLY thought this was a troll.

I heard them speaking different to each other. No one ever clarified that it was called patois (thanx Hotlegz). I just thought it was called Jamaican. I don't know anything about the Jamaican culture. I'm sorry for not knowing. GForce just laughs at most of my questions. He said he will teach me when he gets home to me.
I guess I'll sign off now. Thanks for all your help. Leila
this is serious it's no joke..the rest of ur lives..tell him he needs to stop laughing
I wondered why he wanted to wait until he gets here to teach her????
teach what?
-
Leila...I'm born Jamaican and so is my husband..It's not called Jamaican it's Patois..pronounced pat-wah (
)..
Oh! You are very pretty, and so are your kids. So the language is not Jamaican, like Spanish or Chinese, but Patois? I have a lot to learn. My fiance' laughs at me when I ask him to speak Jamaican, then he sucks his teeth at me a lot. I guess that's why huh? When I first heard him suck his teeth, I thought he had corn or something stuck in his teeth. I asked him if he ever heard of dental floss or a toothpick. But, I think it is just a nasty habit because he does it all the time on the phone too. I am going to have to break him of that habit because it urks me like popping chewing gum, or shortening my name. I told you that I can be a bit #######.
Thank u..I'm blessed ! I really hope u are ready for what u are getting into though..may here can tell it's not an easy road I'll be married 4yrs in May and it makes it no easier..known each other all our llives makes it no easier..an u have only seem this man 2 times...i really hope ur ready..
, Kimmy!! Yuh too conceited!! haha

Hello All!
Just noticed we're on part 12!! Man, I miss a couple of days loggin in and we get so far.
yep marlita u miss one day and it's like you miss 20. sometimes mi vex so till mi just tun where it stop but mi feel like mi lef behind so then mi go back and ketch up. lawd mi addicted
Yeah, I feel completly out of it lately. Plus I am having a hard time spelling or typing...one of them. It takes me forever to write one post without having 500 mispelled words or craziness. I dont know whats wrong with me. You shoulda seen how long it took me to type this post. I think I am having an aneurysm.
join the club last week i was so exhauted to read cause mi know mi have alot to catch up pon because of the endless chatting dem put dung but i am here back to mi old self. how is hubby job hunting going?
Well he got a job as a Concierge for the Black Tie Events company. They basically work like corporate conventions at hotels and convention centers. So he starts next week I believe and its at the Hilton on the water so its close.
Then he also starts his Graphic Design classes next week, which will be really good training for him. He got in thru the ROP program, so no residency requirements, or long wait, which means by 2 semesters, he'll have a portfolio and able to get an entry level graphic design job, and just work up from there.
well he is on his way and now he can share the responsiblities and feel more like himself. you must be relieved that he is feeling that way.
I think he will feel like he is contributing more when he gets a job, however, he really does help put alot now with house chores. One thing for sure, he is not lazy when it comes to a clean home. He washes dishes, makes the bed, cooks more now, washes clothes and walks the dog. So I am really glad that he has helped with all that stuff. Its hard to keep up a house and work sometimes so he balances that out alot.
