  1. To me, a successful marriage is like a successful path to weight loss  It sounds funny but it is. Every time you feel like you want to give up for whatever reason, give yourself time to think and see the pros and cons of the situation. Then if no boundaries were crossed, go back and keep going. You gotta keep going and never give up, perseverance is key. Now, if there is some abuse involved, then by all means pack your bags and never look back. Other than that, keep going and work at it. It's not easy and I hate it when people say that they don't want to be in relationships that need work, then by all means stay single all your life because you'll never find such relationship.

Also, listen, respect one another, and never raise your voice or use insults to make a point.

I also don't believe in that never go to bed angry #######, that's too old school for me to use. I've never felt the need to kiss and make up when I'm still upset at something before going to bed. But I've found out that after a nice restful sleep, I forget about almost anything when I wake up and that's when we make up.

    Diana

word, i don't get that stupid advice, like you need to be pushed to solve those issues before going to bed, my behind, everybody needs X amount of time to get some air and forgive.

    haha!

So true. I dont believe in that make up before sleep stuff either. Sometimes I just need to go to sleep and wake up in a rested state of mind to think clearly about a situation. I really dont have much other advice for a lasting relationship....however I just saw the 20/20 special with Will Smith and they were talking about him being married in Hollywood for so long and him and his wife looking happy. He said that his marriage has had as many ups and downs as anyones and that it has always taken work and effort to maintain, but him and his wife are in the marriage with the notion that "divorce is NOT an option". So it seems like they just work harder to maintain it rather than giving themselves an out by throwing the 'D' word around as soon as the going gets tough. I think once the "D' word is thrown around in a marriage it makes it that much easier to eventually get one....its a hard term to overcome once its been said.

  2. Lita, yes u have to explain things to a T..and show him what WILL happen..Kashi has this dream about buying a house cash..i said babe, u keep ur head high :) ..but he's getting it little by little..he now understands why it is not a good idea to buy a new car cash..so thats good :)

no matter how much u explain over the phone...it's a whole u ball game when he gets here

AMEN!!! But don't worry...as long as you are both committed to making your relationship work. Together... you'll see it through!! :luv:

    :thumbs::thumbs:

Yeah Kimmy, there are so many things that come out once they get here. I think Evan puts the cart before the horse sometimes. I mean its really good to have goals and aspirations, its just that the path to get to those goals seems very fuzzy, if not impossible. But I realize its all an understanding thing. I can imagine this move can be a great problem in many relationships and even start to manifest itself in ways where you dont realize the true problem.

  3. no matter how much u explain over the phone...it's a whole u ball game when he gets here

I realize this very much now. I actually didnt ever explain to much to him before hand cause you cant tell that man nothing....waaaaayyyy to stubborn. Even when he's here you cant tell him nothing. Its hard for me to sit back and watch a mistake happen, but I know its the only way to deal with him. He wont die from it, but he may drive me crazy along the way. He eventually figure it out....thats when I wanna yell "I TOLD U SO!!" but I dont. I notice that he gets caught up in get rich quick schemes very easily. He does not see how its really hard work, and perseverence that pays off in the long run. These things worry me cause they are the exact thing that can ruin your credit or prevent you from establishing some. because of this I have to watch him closely to make sure that the mistake will not mess this up for him. I relize now that many people come to the US really thinking its much much easier.

  4. Hey Marlita- How is Evan doing here? Any major adjustment stuff? I worry for Steve and it is always good to hear other's experiences. You must have such a huge weight lifted.

BTW- thanks for suggesting the book "the power of a praying wife" I love it.

Hey there! He is doing good. Or I should say I am doing a bit better. I think I was really worried that he would hate it, want to leave, feel let down or something, and it took time for me to adjust to him being here. I think he is finding its not as easy as it was in JA to get things rolling. Lots of rules and regulations here. Things are alot more detailed here and work ethic is much more serious here. he finds that frustrating.

  5. Good everning ladies,

I am sharing this bit of information with some reservations, but please discuss this with your GYN if you wish to know more. This was a conversation I had with my GYN a long time ago, so I am only sharing it as informational.

I want to stop my period while I am on holiday

    Question

Can anything be prescribed by my GP to stop my period while I am on holiday for one week?Answer

Indeed you can. This is a commonly asked question and your GP will be aware of what to do.

There are two easy ways of doing this and the choice is partly a personal one, partly depends on the patient's state of health and partly on how long you have before your holiday.

    • One method is to start taking the oral contraceptive pill, provided there are no reasons why you should not take it. You need to start at least one cycle before the one you want to miss. At the end of the first pack, instead of stopping and having a period, you just carry on and stop when you get back from holiday. You don't need to complete the second pack.

    • Another method which can be used up to a week or ten days before the period that you want to postpone is due (but the earlier the better) is to take a progestogen such as Norethisterone. This needs to be taken three times a day continuously until after you return from holiday, and can then be stopped. A period usually follows about 48 hours later. This method can be used if for medical or other reasons the contraceptive pill is not suitable.

Go along and see your GP well before your leave, and enjoy your holiday

i know about this ms rox. i did it a couple of times when i am going on vacation. i used to take oral contraceptive so whenever it the time for me to stop and wait for my period i just continued the other pack. my doc also said it was safe to do.

isnt this just like taking the pill non-stop and not taking the placebo pills? They make pills now specifically for this. You can go months without a period if you want. Forget what pills are better known for this. Otherwise what Rox wrote is the makeshift way of doing it with whatever pack of pills you have. Its also the way of the morning after pill too kinda... its just prolonging your before ovulation phase. Once you ovulate....there's no stopping the period from coming. But if you can prevent ovulation then you can prevent the menses flow.

  6. LOL - My friend that I used to travel with all the time gets bad bites too - But she scratches them in her sleep to the point that she bruises herself - Then she ends up with what looks like hickeys, or handmarks all over her legs - You should see the looks she gets!

Mines look like hickeys too. Like purple red black color....very unattractive. I think it does something to my blood. but its only those JA mossies or the ones when i go camping....the local ones here bite me but dont leave scars.

  7. Mosquitoes like us cause we're NEW MEAT! A flavor they aren't used to and tired of. LOL!

We went to the water slides in Negril and first off, my legs are WHITE cause I'm not into laying out and showing off my pudge. So I have about 50 bites on each leg and was floating on the lazy river thing with my legs hanging over the innertube. You should've seen this Jamaican lady STARING at me! It was so funny....I looked like pink polka dots on a white canvas and I couldn't tell if she was amazed at how white I was or just how many damn mosquito bites I had! If I had a camera I would've taken a picture of the look on her face!

haha!! I see people like this all the time there....it is quite gross looking cause they get really red. Do you not use any spray or lay in the sun or get in the ocean? Those things usually bring the swelling down and redness down fast. I get bad bites, but I have to be in JA weeks before I get to 50 bites cause i soak up way to much sun and use a repellant when I can.

  8. Marlita - if you don't mind me asking...where did you get married?

I got married on some private property on the cliffs in Negril....right next to 3 Dives Jerk. It was the property of this guy Evan ran into and it used to be this little old cliff side hideaway on the property. It was closed down for while, but the home was still there an occupied. So we paid them to use the property. It was a REALLY good deal!

  9. If you keep your window closed at night you wont have bug problems. I didnt have AC in my room. It wasnt really that hot when I went in Nov. but the rooms windows faced the ocean and I wanted to hear the water and get a breeze, so I opened the patio door and windows.....had all kinds of critters in my room! so just use your AC at night. The bungalow rooms...the ones on stilts...dont have AC options.

A/C will keep the mosquitoes away though or at least it seems so. However, hearing the ocean would also be nice. I just saw nice mosquito nets at Bed, Bath & Beyond for around $30. The kind with the round hoop at the top and the net comes down off of it. Would have to get it to fit in your luggage but the price was right.

I got one of those. It was the 4 post net though. VERY NICE . It bascially attached to 4 point of velcro in the ceiling and draped nicely over your bed. It was my personal little santuary....loved it. I left it in JA, and whenever I would go back to visit my husband he would bring it with him and set it up depending on where we where staying. It was the only way I could sleep in his room....the mosquitos hid under the bed in his room....it was ridiculous.

  10. Hello VJ family.

Does anyone stayed at Samsara resort in Negril?

Thats where I met my man! The place is alright though. No screens in the room so lots of buggers in the room at night....it got kinda scary fighting them off. other than that, its a good deal for the price. Nice location on the cliffs of Negril and they have a free shuttle that takes you to the beach and back everyday.

I knew someone on here did. Couldn't remember...thanks.

Buggers  I noticed some of the rooms have ceiling fans and others have AC. Do you think we'll have bug problems in the AC rooms? Is it in walking distance from anything?

  11. Hello VJ family.

Does anyone stayed at Samsara resort in Negril?

I have heard good things about the food and the hotel - bad things about the management and them being local friendly - People have had attitude when their friends stopped by for a drink or to see them - I don't mean overnight guests, etc... Just local friends coming to visit with them.

Thanks. It looks really nice on their webiste. The prices are reasonable.

The website is deceptive. its not as nice as that. Its an "ok" place. i'm not that into the hotel when in JA so I just like a place that is clean, has hot water, and some sort of plus to it. Samasara plus was that it had a bar there, and the cliffs where you can dive off into the water or climb down and snorkel. That was great! Its peaceful too. They have a live band at times and you can eat dinner on the cliffs. Its not a bad stay, but the pics make it look nicer than it really is.

  13. This reminded me of another story involving a friend! I have crazy friends and this is why I have crazy stories! :P

My friend is also a woman with some more junk in the trunk and absolutely LOVES Victoria's Secret. She was telling me how she had found just the cutest little lacy thong panties EVER! She said she got home, tried them on and had imaginings of sporting these hot little panties that would make her azz look like the VS supermodels. When she turned to look in the mirror, she said her face dropped and it looked just like "a clam choking on a piece of lace"!!!

    :rofl::rofl::rofl:

Sorry, I couldn't resist telling that one!

    :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

haha! i love VS, but yes they are very expensive. I get it on EBay more. I also love Fredericks. They're real kinky though sometimes....crotchless EVERYTHING! its funny. But VS is really nice quality.

  14. Hey ladies:

I work in a hopsital and one of our coworkers died this morning. She was sick for sometime with breast cancer. I was really beating up cuz I wanted to see her for the last. So I went up to see her she looks so peaceful. One of our coworkers was told when she comes back down to was her hands three times etc. Now I am scared cuz I am preggos. will anything happen to baby. I heard abt going to a funeral when u r on ur period that u can hemorrhage. You have to rub blue on ur panty seat before u go. As u can see I am very superstitious when it comes on these things. :help: Unno dont laugh.

My coworker was laughing and said "stop wid di foolishness

Ok this is one of the most confusing posts I have seen to date on VJ...ole heap a duppy sighting round yah! Sorry about your co-worker. As far as all the other superstitions....girl leave them things alone!

  15. hey ladies. i am here counting down the days and getting nervous at the same time. it's funny because as close as it is getting the longer it seems. i booked a 1 night stay in knutsford court hotel. it includes continental breakfast in the mornin not that i would be eating ,nervousness will full mi belly.

Thats a nice looking hotel. Never stayed in it as the price was more than what we wanted to pay but we visited and it was really nice looking.

  16. Ells,

Everytime I see you SO picture he reminds me of my cousin. He lives in Moco (Clarendon), sometimes he's in Maypen also or Black River, wherever his job takes him.

Last February when I was leaving the airport and waiting in the line to go through security, I saw a man standing on the balcony above who could've almost been his twin brother if he hadn't been at least 10 years older. It was uncanny! Guess there are many 'pretty eye' around dere huh?

Of course, I'll post another picture one of these days and he'll look completely different. He's kind of a chameleon, looks different in each picture I have of him.

he looks familiar, is he from Negril area?

  17. Thank you Jakeswife. Theses types of posts are what divide and conquer. I'm true to myself first...and if you don't like my opinion then you have every right to disagree with it. Sol this was some really childish sh*t to post. Every time I read it, I get vexed. Does your real family get along like that? Why does a different perspective or view have to start a war and a division of sides? CHILDISH. Mek mi dun chat!

You know Jawi, you been on here long enough to know this is just the cycle on the Yardie thread. Some of the folks who are newer may not know that we have these spats all the time. they just come in phases. So maybe this was a phase where Sol saw it. It happens we move on. But in real life....somebody is gonna get on my nerves. Same stuff happens on this thread. So when there are "bad" days....thats all it is people....a bad day. We'll move on and trust me.....you will continue to read this thread and even post in it. There will also be times when you feel people are ignoring you and you'll state that you are leaving the thread.....you'll be back.....it ALWAYS happens. Its just the way it goes. Everyone needs to know that there is tension EVERYDAY on VJ, just from the sheer nature of what people are on this site for. They are away from family and stressed out. The get emotional and defensive, rude and snippy, annoyed and whatever else. I say feel what yuh want. Its natural. Just dont make it seem like the only thing to feel is love and joy and happiness when you'r raging like a bull on the inside.

  18. steve harvey show and that means a big butt island

That's what I was thinking. There was a line in This Christmas where two guys were hitting on the white wife and Columbus shooed them off. Well they come up later and apologize to him about hitting on his woman but commented that he heard "white woman don't have much junk in the trunk but they have strong knees." Columbus pulled a gun on them.

    Thanks for lesson!!

Island where do u live again :rofl::rofl:

    The bush Kimmy....the bush...... :bonk:

I usually ask A these questions but we ran out of international credit a week ago so I've had to save it for important things.

    Hey Island,

i was just thinking....what happened with A and that accident on the bus? i havent been on in awhile and when you first mentioned it I was a bit confused as to what all happened. I just heard a bus tipped over. Is he ok? Is all well with other people? Was he on the way to an interview? Did he still make interview?

Sorry, I feel so lost lately, I just remember this story and when you mentioned him, it all came back to me.

Awesome!! I paid 10 rass dollars for 2 movies from Blockbuster - and one of them was Spongebob's X-mas. :bonk: Thanks - I'm gonna check it out.

    :rofl::rofl: u r making me cry today :rofl::rofl:

I love Red Box! Yes Blockbuster is waaaay to expensive. Either redbox or Netflix is best to rent movies.

  19. Its true that not everyone is cut out for certain careers. When I was young I always wanted to be a pediatrician (my reason was because I love kids) My first year of college I shadowed a doctor at the local hospital. They were doing a routine procedure with the patient and as I watched the nurse start drawing blood I ran for the nearest bathroom.

    I'm a teacher now :star:

What was your dream career as a child or even in high school/college? Is it what you do now?

Yes its what I do, but now I want to do something else. I'm in architecture and design, and working in the field makes it hard for me to enjoy it. I think I need to change careers.

  20. But KISS ME NECK!...di ooman write one ole book. I asked because I get a nuturing vibe fram you. My grannie say not everyone is made out be a nurse. I love taking care of people and I love the response I get. I wish I had stuck it out when I started in 1987. Always wanted to be an L&D nurse or NICU...okay, I'm going to cry now (fram your inspiring story)....so, I was right, but u still a madooman.

Very true. Not all nurses are made to be nurses. Those who are truly caring and nuturing, stand out like a beacon of light! My younger sis is like that. Sometimes I worry about her though, cause she gets very emotionally involved and it takes a toll on her an she is only 19 and has yet to see much in the way of her career. But I know this is Gods calling for her and she is such a blessing to her patients.

KK...I love manish wata until I get to the bottom of the cup where all the goat pieces are

MrsP...I'm aiming to have him here by next Christmas. I don't want to spend another Christmas without him. I'm feeling like a grinch this Christmas

What pieces  ...you mean the teeth, eyes, ears, lips

what about the whole head!!

Ok so I found some mutton, in the local grocery store the other day. Why was I jumpping for joy and the people dem think seh mi lose mi mind!

  21. I wore some wide leg cuffed pants to work today. I just went outside for a quick second and FELL!! My high heel was caught in the cuff. My knees, hips, and hands are stinging now from the fall.

    Enjoy the laugh!

    Wakey girl,

I had to learn that the hard way after amost busting my head to the white meat when I my heel got caught in my cuff when I was walking down the steps outside my house. Thanks God for the railings because I would have hit the ground head first.

 I've done this before too! Tripped in the cuff. I always catch myself though. I am really clumsy though. I mean REALLY clumsy. I used to bust my lip about 3 times a month when I was little. Either I trip and fall, walk into a wall, pust something upside my face, bite my lip.....ALWAYS ended up with a busted lip. Everybody say thats why my lips are so big....they're permanantly swollen...HAHA!!
