Yes, the GC does help. I mean it is not a good idea to bring your GC everywhere with you and answering many question about SS. If you change your SS and you can avoid these problems. Why don’t you change it, because the SS officer told me that people should change their SS after they got the GC. And not too much people know that they ought to do it
I see your point.
Right now I’m not going to replace my SS as SSA only accepts mail-in for that type of update on the card, meaning I have to mail in my SSN and GC and there’s no way to track when it’ll be done. I think I’ll wait.

Based on my experienced about changing SS card, I recommend people to change their SS after they got the green card. The employees at SS used to tell me that people should change their SS to delete the statement of “valid for work ...” when they got green card and when they become US citizen. Anytime when you do some paperwork and they need a copy of your SS (if they see it with the statement “valid for work only...”), they will ask many questions. Believe me, it will take you a lot of time to answer these questions
But showing your green card as DHS authorization doesn't help at all?

You never have to change the card if you don't want to or simply can't.
People often misunderstand what that "restriction " actually means .
From what I under, green card can work as the DHS authorization.
So we don’t really have to have that restriction removed/ get a new card with same number without that restriction. Is that right?

Hi all.
I got my social security card before marriage. And I changed my last name after marriage.
So I went to SSA and updated my last name, but was told that they would update my name in their system, but the last name on my physical card remains maiden name.
Now that I have got my green card, should I make another trip to SSA and have the "Work only with DHS authorization" removed and get a card with updated name?
I've been researching here about the topic and got different answers. Just want to make sure whether I should go or not?

We never did find out what the delay was. At our interview, the officer said everything looked good but that they were waiting for our packet. Which didn't really make sense but since she was so positive, we figured we would see "approved" within a couple of days/weeks. Never anticipated 3 1/2 months. But as I said, it's all in the rear view mirror now.
Good luck and hope you hear on your approval very soon.
Thank you for that!
Your packet as of the AOS packet?

Congrats, were you ask a lot of questions?
Yes, but it was more of a friendly conversation, questions casually asked.
We even got this question: was there resistance from my family? As it turns out, the officer's wife is also from my country so he was curious about that lol

We waited for what seemed like forever. Our interview was Jan. 27 and we received notice the green card was being produced on May 12. We were not separated at the interview and felt everything had gone really well. But then, nothing. It was hard waiting that long - especially when we were reading that others were approved right away. But it all came through eventually. Good luck.
And congratulations to the other MSP-STP folks who have made it through the process.
Wow that took a long time for you to get it in hand.
Now I'm starting to worry a little bit. My interview went really well despite my previous CCP issue. I'm concerned if that issue is going to take extra time for reviewing...

Just like you said, it was like a friend meeting! Officer was super nice and we shared a bit about both our own relationship and his wife and stuff, which made the whole experience friendly and easy. We’re approved at the spot but it’s not official yet.
Will be waiting for the official notice, hopefully in a week or so! -

I got a status update on 9/15 saying my interview was scheduled!
Finally, after waiting almost a year for this update.

The new card is valid for 1 year, but the effective date should've been from the expiration of the old card.
I guess it depends on who prints your card.
Yeah, that's what I thought was strange too.
You think I should contact them for this issue?
