Those look yummy!!!
Yeah, looks like kunafa with cheese...............mmmmmm...
Well, this is the first Ramadan I have experienced, so I didn't have anything to look forward to, really. But, I am enjoying the way the streets in Cairo seem to have calmed down. We sat out on the balcony and watched the evening prayers yesterday, and I enjoyed it. The people were overflowing from the masjid onto the sidewalk. Also, the traffic is non-existent in the evenings, and there are different foods available during this time (especially sweets). So far, we have tried several new sweets this month; we made ataif, konaafa, and om 3aly - all of them we made here at home. They were delicious. I guess moody was right about desserts and sweets being eaten more during Ramadan.
how do you make that middle one? I"m about to plunge into the monitor to get it!! lol
yeah.. Ditto on that one...
Is it Lebanese style Kanifeh??? with the cheese in the Middle???

10 months is insane.................and it's been months since the field visit..............some people on the list have been waiting over a year??????............really????...........i can't believe it.
I wonder if ashkia & gotmeahunk were ever issued visas..............they've been waiting for ever.
We've heard nothing as of yet neither. Our's in 10 months of AP. Contacting the governor/sendator so far has given us no help. How much longer do we wait???? -
Wishing you a happy reunion!

Tamara.......that must be soooooo exciting......looking for tickets!!!

Yes, I understand that security checks are more than just name hits.
What I meant was that there are lots of people from other countries who go through security clearances and they don't end up waiting for ridiculous amounts of time...............in certain countries, however, Egypt definitely being one of them, even AFTER security clearances are completed, people have to experience VERY long delays.
I don't think it's only the name hit that causes the delays................my husband's security clearance started the beginning of May and ended the first week in June............whenever I call DOS they say that security clearances have been completed and that they don't see any reason why the embassy cannot issue the visa.Mohamed is a very common name and there are Mohamed's who obtain visas from many consulates in and out of MENA. There are a few notorious embassies, however, that process papers at the pace of snails...........In addition to name checks, I think inefficiency also has a lot to do with the delays we're seeing.
the security clearance is more than a (name check) .. fingerprint check & criminal record & ........ etc
that's why it may take several weeks at the DOS even if there is no name hit .
it depends on what kind of security check the embassy has requested ..
at the DOS & FBI .. it may take a few (days-weeks) before they even start working on it .. coz when they receive the security check request , your case takes a turn in the role .. depends on how many cases before you in the role !
sometimes i thought that Casa don't follow these long steps .. but at least that's how it goes here in Egypt .

Please read through this thread for information on what to do if a petition is returned to the USCIS after an interview.

At the top of the MENA forum there is a pinned thread discussing this issue.
Best of luck to you.

I know it's hard honey....been there. It's a feeling that no one can or ever will understand unless they have been there before. All I can say is that this hell will eventually end. As always, I'm just a phone call away!
And to all you gals on AR......HANG IN THERE EVERYONE!!!!!
That is sooo true.....

Being away from the one you love is difficult and I am praying that you and everyone else waiting will hear some good news soon.
-
Good news!

Yay......good news!
-
Congratulations......hope you get that visa soon!

I didn't change my last name.

Welcome to the world of admininstrative processing.........
Nobody knows what the he$$ is happening................the embassy there is very confusing.
The CO told my husband he'd have his visa in 1-2 months.................it's been over 4 months and we are still "undergoing the necessary administrative processing"........
Hopefully you'll get lucky and be done with AP soon.........

I am REALLY going to miss my morning coffee.......coffees to be exact.
But, I hope that this upcoming month will be spiritually rewarding for me.......I find that the better I feel spiritually, the easier it is for me to cope with AP hell.
-
Congratulations!

Don't worry........my husband never received his packet 4 before the interview..........in fact, he never received it after the interview either........
It is just a letter telling him the date & time of the interview......he's supposed to take it with him to the interview so they let him through the door..............my husband just told them that he never received the appointment letter and showed them ID, they then checked to see that he indeed had an interview that day and then let him in.
-
Yay.......this is awesome news.....
-
That is an interesting idea........
If it also included those people still waiting overseas that are stuck in namechecks, I'm sure they'd be receiving not hundreds, but thousands of flowers.........heck, if everyone stuck in AP/AR at the Cairo embassy alone were to send flowers, I'm sure their office would be covered.....

Ok, time to study for me, but what I really want to do all day is watch reruns of America's Next Top Model.
At some point I need to make room in the freezer for the 80 lb. tuna that Wadi caught this morning.
That's one BIG fish!

Yeah, they probably just forgot to do it at the interview......
why am I not surprised............
Thanks ladies we are over the moon! I am still in a little shock today ,but all I can say is keep the faith and your day will come too! MY fiancé was told 1-2 months at his interview and so I guess Cairo is trying to keep its word. I wish you all luck I also kindly ask for prayers for my fiancé's father who is being tested for a possible cancer. So far, so good, but I know he's not out of the woods yet.My fiance Jack had his interview in Cairo August 30th. The embassy said they would let him know with in a month if he would get the visa or not. He got a call from the embassy September 6, they want him to come back to the embassy September 11 at 9:00 a.m. and give his thumb print. Don't know if this is good or means nothing. If anyone knows, please advise.
I don't think it means anything good or bad they proablly just forgot to take it at the interview , where its common to get the index fingers.. Thats my guess its so hard to tell with cairo.

That's terrific news!!
-
You should definitely get in touch with the embassy ASAP and, considering the fact that it's their fault for not notifying you about your interview BEFORE its scheduled date, they should be willing to accomodate you with a new date soon. Good luck.
