Have you received any updates since May 1. How far out is the interview?
My interview was on May 1st. I was approved on the spot and I got my Green Card in the mail the following week! I've been busy applying for jobs since then. It's such a great feeling when things finally start falling into place!

Thanks! Yes, I am adjusting from K1

Hello,
I received my Form I-797C Notice of Action for my Green Card interview on May 1st. The list of items that I am required to bring with me to the interview includes "all documentation establishing eligibility for Lawful Permanent Resident status". I feel like all of the other documents that I am bringing with me should cover that requirement? I don't understand if they are referring to something specific that I am not aware of? I've waited so long for this interview that I don't want to miss anything!
Thanks in advance!

Hello,
I am adjusting status from a K1 Visa in Michigan. I filed for the Green Card, EAD, and AP in December 2018. When I filed for the EAD, I selected the option on the application form where they will send you an SSN. I have not received the EAD, SSN, or AP yet but I have been informed by the Detroit office that my Green Card interview is on May 1. What happens if I receive my Green Card before the SSN? Will they automatically send me an SSN or will I need to apply again for an SSN?
Thanks!

Just a question- I am adjusting status from a K1 visa to a marriage-based green card. I applied for an EAD at the same time and I ticked the box on the EAD application asking if I would like them to send me a SSN card at the same time. If I happen to get my green card before the EAD (which I know is rare), then do I still have to wait for my SSN card to arrive in order to work? Or will they cancel my previous application for the SSN card and give me a different one? Thanks.

Thank you all for your replies! I won't be applying for an actual job there eventually or doing anything that someone would normally be paid to do. I'm just trying to give myself some purpose and meet people while I wait for the EAD...this wait is so long!

Hello,
I really appreciate how helpful everyone is on VisaJourney! I have a question- is it legal to volunteer while waiting for your EAD? I entered on a K-1 Visa in November, and I got married & filed my documents for EAD/AP and AOS in December. There is a non-profit organization in my town that provides food and clothing to low-income families. They rely heavily on their volunteers, who do work there such as stocking shelves with food and sorting clothes. I would like to volunteer there to stay productive and help pass the time while I wait for my EAD, but I obviously don't want to do anything that could land me in serious trouble. I have read the threads on VisaJourney about volunteering, but most of them are at least a few years old and have mixed responses. Can anyone provide me with a definite answer on whether this type of volunteer work would be acceptable? Thanks!

Hello, I am planning on filing Form I-131 so that I can get an Advance Parole Document. This form requires you to submit a copy of a document showing present status in the USA. Would it be acceptable to include a copy of my NOA2, K1 visa, and marriage certificate? Is that too much? I am filing this form with my Form I-485 and Form I-765. TIA

Can you reference what question that is on the I485? I have an idea but I would like to confirm before advising you....
Part 1 "Information About You"- Recent Immigration History- #19 Non-Immigrant Visa Number from this Passport (if any)

Hello, is there a non-immigrant visa number on a K1 visa? The i-485 asks for one (if any) and I can't see one on my visa. TIA

Thank you so much! I was very confused about that.

Hello, I am looking at Forms I-485 and I-765. When they request a Form I-94, are they asking for a printout of the electronic I-94 or a photocopy of the white card that was stapled into my passport? Also, what do they mean by the front and back of it? The electronic I-94 doesn't appear to have a back. Thanks.

What is NOA2 again? Is that a copy of our approved petition I-129F? Thanks.

Hello, I have been looking at Form I-485 and I am required to submit evidence showing that I am eligible for adjustment of status in a particular immigrant category. I came to the US on a K1 Visa. It is unclear to me what evidence/documentation I am supposed to submit for this. Thanks!

Hello,
When filling in Form I-765 (Application for Employment Authorization), Part 2 #25 asks what is your Current Immigration Status or Category. Do I write K1 or authorized stay? Or is it something else? I entered on a K1 Visa and I wrote K1 as the answer to #24 Immigration Status at Last Arrival. Thank you!

Hello,
As far as I know, there is an agreement between Michigan and Ontario where an Ontario driver's license can be converted directly to a Michigan license without doing any additional driving tests in Michigan. I was wondering if I can still drive in Michigan with an Ontario license after I move to Michigan? Is there a validity period for my Ontario license in Michigan (i.e. 90 days)? Also, to obtain a Michigan driver's license you need a Social Security Number (SSN). However, I read that you won't be able to get an SSN just for the purpose of getting a driver's license. Do you have to wait until you have work authorization to obtain an SSN? Does this mean that I can't get a Michigan driver's license until I have my EAD?
Thanks in advance!

Hello,
I am Canadian and our petition was recently approved by USCIS. We are now waiting to hear from the Consulate about my upcoming interview. I have a question relating to Adjustment of Status (AOS). From what I understand, the K1 Visa is valid for 6 months from the date that it is issued. After marriage, you can apply immediately for AOS in order to receive a Green Card with restrictions. When you apply for this Green Card, you can also file Form I-765 (Application for Employment Authorization) at the same time. How long does it take to be issued a conditional Green Card? I read that it can take a year. Is the year-long wait for the Green Card without restrictions? If the year-long wait was for the conditional Green Card, then wouldn't there be a gap between the K1 Visa expiring and receiving the conditional Green Card?
Thank you!

Thanks! After we mailed our application, we got a notification through mail that they'd received it. Then they mailed us another letter notifying us of when my biometrics appointment would be. I had the biometrics appointment about three weeks after I mailed the application. Then I waited about another 4 months until my Green Card interview. I found the waiting to be really tough, but it's so worth it in the end! Best of luck to you!
