  1. I have 2 questions.

    1. We have not changed the passport name of my spouse yet once she came to the USA in K1 and after marriage. The passport is in her old maiden name. The Greencard will be stamped on this passport right? Will they stamp it immediately and give back the passport or do they take time? How long will she get her passport back after they confirm in the GC Interview?

    2. Her date is on Nov 18th and we have a flight on Nov 20th to go to Arizona. She has no other identity proof other than the passport. Will she have a problem if they take the passport at the time of Interview?

Thanks and appreciate if anyone could respond quickly.

Think so. But not that fast, you've got to get learner permit first. EAD only serves as a federal ID, if you are good through the point system without it, you are good to apply for a permit. Namely you need foreign passport with I-94, SSN, a utility bill and a bank statement. Also a card to pay the fee right on the spot.

For local commute I carry my NYC ID with me at all times. Passport with even valid I-94 stamp kind of scares people off.

We went yesterday for drivers license (learners permit) for my wife, but they refused, since her I-94 expired. So, they said we cannot do anything even for her to take the test. The DMV person said that if you would have filed earlier itself before the expiry it would have been in the system and we could have then understood ok it is in process, but since it has expired there is no way we could even enter her details for her to take a test for learners. So, we left and came back. We will have to wait till she gets her greencard.

  3. I was able to add but not to my checking account but to my savings account. As, I had Reserve Line of Credit and they said for me to add her I need to close my Reserve line of Credit. Unfortunately, I don't have the money to pay off the reserve line of credit to close it and add her to my checking account. I might try and add her to my Credit Union account. So, let me see. Also, her name on the Social Security is her maiden name and not our new married name as we applied for Social Securiity prior to submitting her AOS

So, now we have in our Savings account her name with her maiden name. So, once she gets her Greendcard, then only it will change and then they said she can be added to checking. Also, reason being that in her SS card it says "Cannot Work", so that was the reason why she was not able to be added. This is with US Bank. I need to go to my credit union and add her.

I think you will be fine, as long as she explains what she's doing there and preferably has something to support it.

Don't forget you'll need to get a marriage license on time. If you were getting married in NY you would've had a hard time making it (offices are closed Sundays I believe, and 24hr waiting period is required after issuance). Hawaii at least does not require any mandatory waiting time after the license is received, which works in your favor, just make sure you can in fact get the in-person meeting with an authorized agent on Monday morning.

I am planning for her to take the earlier booked tickets that were cancelled for her trip to Chicago, and then her trip from Chicago to Hawaii. All the marriage documents in Hawaii etc... and also our hotel bookings. As, i would be there outside at the airport, but all that I need is that she comes out. I can even book her flight from Hawaii to Chicago now and send that to her to carry. But as we know that she can only enter once, and it should not be a problem for her to fly from Hawaii to Chicago domestic without any issues by just showing her passport and her boarding pass. I will be there with her.

Yes, we already applied for a marriage license in Hawaii and I have proof of payment also and email confirmation which was done in February first week. We are supposed to go there and get it on Monday morning.

Yes, I already spoke to an agent there and they are aware. They asked us to come at 7:30 am and collect it and it would not take more than 30 minutes.

Did you email them or call to the embassy after submitted documents?

    Rahul,

I hope you get yours also soon and wish you all the best. I just saw that the status shows ISSUED for my fiance. I feel sorry for you that you are sitting there for 1 month and have not even submitted your passport. I wish you and pray that you get it soon buddy. I am sure it is frustrating. Now, am not sure whether I should fly my fiance direct to Hawaii and whether the CBP officer will wonder why she is landing there and not in Chicago if her residence is in Chicago. As, we have all the proof of marriage and plans and paid for everything in Hawaii.

    Congratulations!

Thank you! Man, if they would have issued just one day before I would have had my marriage as planned. Now, I have to fly her to Hawaii directly and am not sure what the CBP officer will say at Hawaii? Will there be an issue as she can still fly out on Saturday morning and reach there on Saturday morning itself and we can get married on Monday. But, I hope the CBP officer will not question her why she is landing here when she is supposed to be landing in Chicago and living there.

Did you drop off your passport too with your documents?

Yes, they took the passport also. This must be only based on the instructions from the Officer correct? Otherwise they would not have taken the passport? Usually, I see many people they take the documents and then they after 2 weeks or 2 days they then ask for passport. But my fiance they took the passport.

I think they going to check everything and maybe you can get visa soon but I don't know how much soon and it is very slow procedure after the interview I'm still in Mumbai and I am just waiting I am staying in hotel and it's been month here and what is your status showing?

Showing Administrative Processing. The Officer knew that we had our wedding planned in Hawaii. Etc.. my fiance showed her the tickets as well as my tickets and we had paid already for the officiant and photographers tec...

Yes, same except for Work Address. I just gave my W2, I040 including this years tax filing as I filed Jan end so I was able to send it. Then Tickets, Boarding Pass,  Our marriage plan, as we already scheduled our marriage in Hawaii NEXT MONDAY, but it has to be cancelled as we were flying out this Friday. Then I provided the wedding plan, guest list etc... I told them that my guests are going to be here in mainland who are going to come for my reception. Then, i gave them my bank statements, pay stubs, and many more docs. My savings etc...

Are they just making it difficult because of T?

It's always advised that you do not schedule a y plans that cannot be canceled for exactly this reason.

Instead of tracking the passport, the Visa status should update to "Issued" when it is issued. This is often a much more reliable indicator of what is going on than tracking passport number.

If you will be re-booking tickets I would suggest that you do not book anything until visa is in hand. When my husband's changed you issued (not in India but just saying) he was still not allowed to pick it up for almost 10 days after.

Nope, until she gets her visa stamped on her passport. I am not planning to book her ticket at all. I am done loosing money. Almost 3 grand lost with the wedding planning. We had it in Hawaii which was scheduled for March 11th.

  12. So, the interview got over on 21st, then we submitted additional documents to the drop box location in Mumbai on February 25th, as per the requirements by the Immigration Officer.I think the documents were submitted to the US Consulate on the 26th. The CEAC status was in READY. then from 4th it said "APPLICATION RECEIVED" and now it is showing as "ADMINISTRATIVE PROCESSING".

When we send for Passport Status it was an automated reply stating "The passport has been delivered to the Post". Now, we send an email we get "There is no status update available for the passport number submitted".

Anyone has been through this? I am just so tired as I never slept for almost 2 weeks staying up in the night and talking to my fiance to see what is going on. Also, our wedding was scheduled for 11th, and it all is screwed up now. We cannot have our wedding.

Were you instructed to submit via nvc?  That is not the normal for k1

Well they said DROP BOX. I am not sure where is the NVC. In Mumbai they have a place where they go and submit all these documents. I am confused. Initially, I thought NVC was in the US and we have to upload the document. When I called NVC and wanted to know the INVOICE number, I was told that my papers have already been sent to Consulate and they will send me notification. When my fiance got the notice, I think we did not read it properly or go through it properly, all that we did was do the fingerprinting, and all the documents that were needed for her and medical. There was nothing else, I thought she has to take all the documents to the consulate and they will take it and verify it. This is how we screwed up our status. But, they did not even ask any documents for me, and only wanted my travel itinerary to visit my fiance both trips and also more photos. But then in that 221g there were several documents that was there, and the lady at the drop box place or NVC whatever I do not know in MUMBAI opposite the US Consulate building there, one lady told my fiance to have notorized info about our relationshiop from both side, then all documents. So, I submiited almost 35 different documents to the Consulate as Exhibits. So, there is nothing that they will come back to me.
