  1. The student / sponsor is responsible to pay out of state tuition, and though you can get a student visa for a city / community college, it is more difficult coming from Nigeria; and people generally opt to attend a college / university. As we all know tuition can cost from 5,000 to 50,000 a year depending on school. Also most international students do not qualify for academic scholarships primarily athletic scholarships and usually not full scholarships. The question is do you and brother have the means to sponsor. Another thing international students are no allowed to work off campus jobs and only can work part-time hours in a work study program.

  2. I've FINALLY seen the pictures. Loved them!!! Awesome sweetie. I'm sooo glad you had a good time and things "may" slow down. (yeah right!) I'm glad you enjoyed your day. Congratulations!

    Thanks Zainab.....

    I have been so consumed with this wedding for soo long, I don't have any other conversation, I have forgotten how to talk about other topics outside of wedding plans. I guess, I will catch up with the presidential race, to give me conversation points.

  3. Magnificent ! Thank you for sharing :)

    I am sure the reason they were crashing was due to the tremendous fun you guys had. :D

    Thanks

    The reception was fun and most (including me) had never seen some of the traditional dancing that went on.

    The first time 4 people from the next party crashed and the atleast 25 people including the bride and groom came over and stayed for about 20 minutes. they left these four guys behind, I keep looking at my pictures saying who are they and mom said they are from next door. They literally stayed and danced, had drinks and sat down. But it was no problem, I am glad the crashers had a nice time :D .

  4. Beautiful pics. I'm mad the bride and groom from next door crashed! lol.

    LOL, I was thinking the same thing. :lol:

    We_Destiny, it was like I had ESP...as I was logging in VJ today, I was wondering if you had the wedding yet and when you would post the photos and BAM here they are. ou wedding looked absolutely beautiful and I loved the outfits! I guess all of the stress was worth it end the end.

    It was worth it, but I am still stressed... trying to see everyone who travelled to attend the wedding off to the airport,,,, and getting back to work... I should have taken a week off but :bonk: . but I am glad it is finally over.... :D

  6. Zainab I also had a similar situation arise a few years back..False Alarm...Stay Positive

    :secret: Everyone...why do I feel like once again this forum is about to blow?? Feels like Mt St Helens burping smoke and ash... :ph34r:

    :rofl::rofl::lol:

    I've had that same feeling all day! This time I'm prepared for the volcano and I've already evacuated.

    :whistle:

  7. I am having a serious problem with some recent posts, I have seen in K3 and US citizenship forums. First of all, I am opinionated and do not have a problem expressing my opinion when I have the need to. So I will start here. I have noticed sub-Saharan specific problems, issues and concerns being fished around in other forums specifically the thread in K3 and U.S. citizenship forums and the bad thing is that one of the persons is not a newbie but has been around for at least a year, and feels that the K3 forum is a better place to seek information. I am generally a loner and feel that I am somewhat new to this whole forum thing. I do feel as though unconsciously VJ members forum cliques, but, I can understand how it happens, and because I don’t necessarily fit into a clique I am not bothered by it. I am very comfortable doing me (when I have something to say I post, if no one can identify with it, I am fine with that). However other people thrive on acceptance, appreciation and or the understanding of others. Sub-Saharan is full of mostly women and some men who have been through the ringer and back, really that is the only way that you survive this struggle with immigration reconizing the ips and downs. The rub is, most of you (us)started out wanting to find a place to go where people understood the dire situation, we petitioners find ourselves in. I am not always happy or full of congrats, but I do what I can, when I can when I notice someone is in need I try to be there.

    Hell when you look at we all have put our selves in a situation to potentially get scammed no one more or less than the next, let us all get off our high-horses of judgement.

    We for a fact have two women looking for our knowledge, sympathy and or compassion, and they are obviously reluctant to bring their situation to us. Why is that? A true family accepts unconditionally.

  8. You probably would get more input on Nigeria related issues, if you posted in the sub-Saharan forum. People there will better asist you, as Nigeria has a set of conditions that might not be applicable outside of West Africa. Another thing is they will support you throughout your journey; but, like siblings there will time to time be some small spats and misunderstandings, but we will always get through them. However, they will have your back even through the citizen ship process. For instance this post in the citizenship forum; you have not gotten to this point, your SO recently picked up his interview appointment. He needs to be approved arrive to US apply for AOS and then wait three years for this forum to become applicable.

    I would advice not to double post but to post embassy specific questions in the applicable forum, they, we can better assist you through your journey, if we don't have to seek out your post (threads).

    By the way good Luck on your interview, but again sub-Saharan can better assist Nigeria specific issues.

  9. Lois

    I would suggest you download the forms to a laptop or somesort of pen drive (flashdrive) that has Adobe and fill the forms with as much info asyou can or have your SO fill them. I saved all of the forms and ask my SO the questions over the phone, that when I eventually scanned them to my SO to fillout I was correcting him; he spelled his mothers name wrong. If you want him to be able to no information about you for the interview, IMO you need to set the pace and the style it occurs. It is not neccessarily polite in Africa to intrude an dbe overly inquisitive about someones past experiences. So you have to ask questions about his life and volunteer your life story on a regular basis.

    By the way till this day he will spell his mother's name wrong, her name is spelled Le???? not La?????. Some people don't always take that kind of stuff as seriously as Americans. Also for his mother and father if you are not sure of the day, but know the month and year put only what you know, even if you have to ask another family member. We only put the month and year for his parents not the day.

    Good luck on your journey

  10. Those are my exact sentiments hence the stress. I have already decided to have the Nigerian Buffet for 150 people and we know that is going to be alot, but the next day is Sunday and those people that are still in town and or want to hang out will eat the leftovers. I thought in the beginning 140 to 180 people but I am now looking at over 275 at $50 bucks plus the Nigerian food a person that is alot of money, a bleeping used car, a 3 cart diamond ring, a down payment on a bleeping big house. What the hell was I thinking? No.... but seriusly......outside of the cash shortage...........I am the happiest and luckiest gal in the world. All I bleeping need is a ring to crown the event ( I have been married for almost a year with no diamond ring ( fiamonds are a girls best friend).

    My SO has learned the the phrase"stop tripping"....I'LL MAKE NOTE TO STOP...........

  11. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA :wacko::wacko::wacko::wacko::wacko::wacko::wacko::bonk::bonk::bonk::bonk::bonk::bonk:

    The wedding is in less than 3 weeks and I have received RSVP's from 150 people, But only 10 Nigerians....... How do you accomodate 125 addtional people who you expect to come but have not confirmed ......I have people still asking for invites,,,,,,,mind you every invite has a self addressed stamped envelope...so why are people calling me saying I'm coming....send in the damn envelope it is free to do so.

    Well back to the people count I have to pay for every person and then I have to guess at the additional Nigerian Buffet. Guess? Should I accomodate 40 of 140.....or more? Why can't people just send the damn card in?

    At $50 a head........I'm stressing over here..... :bonk::help::help: .

    I just had to get it out of my system......
