I also finished my binder for the interview this week. Some people prefer having an accordion file folder, but I wanted more labels.
in each divider is the original document and a clear colour copy.

I just wanted to share because I wasn’t able to find many examples of what others were doing for their binders. Also don’t let my extra ness stress anyone out 😂

im an admin assistant at work so my job is to organize.

Just had my medical exam with Dr. Cheema in Surrey, BC. Wonderful staff, and Dr. Cheema was incredibly professional and kind. I had to get immunizations and the staff went out of the way to tell me where I could get them cheaper. Highly suggest doing the immunity test if you have time before your exam (because of issues with my medical card I was not able).

the whole process took 3 hours including the wait times for blood work and X-ray, but it was all good and the staff was really nice everywhere I went.

I am sure they will have the strike sorted out by your November interview. Canada Post is an important service and I don't see the bargaining stretching out that long... otherwise many, many other important functions will be affected (beyond visa delivery) and there will be a lot of pressure on the parties to settle. October interviewees might be affected... November people: In my humble opinion, I wouldn't worry too much!

Thanks for the information! Unfortunately I have already booked my return flight, and am expected back at work the next day so hopefully either the Canada Post issue gets fixed soon or we can pick them up same day (doesn't seem super likely)

    Yay, more stress!

Had my interview today for k1! I only gave the lady my Privacy Act and there were no issues at all! At this point, I wouldn't worry about getting any other criminal record check and just get the Privacy Act. Mine had no picture, no fingerprints (says they were taken and destroyed), no seal.

IR-1 Visa with CC on 16 Aug, called NVC yesterday on the 2-month since date and was blown away to hear that I was scheduled for 20 Nov interview. NVC said email would follow, and it did today (almost exactly 24 hours after I called).
For folks getting medicals in Toronto, which Dr. did you choose and why?
Also, just checked CEAC and it indicates "Your case is currently at: Montreal."
I'm currently living at my cottage (sold house in Ottawa and wife established domicile in US in August) but had to pull the water line out of the lake today with forecast tonight at -6C.
Now I have to go couch surf at my 93 year old mother's house (I'm 57) until my interview. I'm practically a Millenial!
Patience is gruelling, but it eventually pays off.

@MtnBoarder : I did a bit more research to make sure that EI is still claimable when moving to the US. All of the information I am referencing comes from this webpage: https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/programs/ei/ei-list/reports/outside-canada.html
If people are referencing this in the future, please make sure the information is still relevant.

You can claim Canadian EI if you reside in the United States. There are instructions on how to file online on the webpage referenced above. It says that you must provide proof that you are legally authorized to work in the US, which I assume your visa and SSN will do.

I have also seen it referenced elsewhere that you must apply for EI within 4 weeks of leaving your job, even if you don't have your SSN card yet.

This is good news for me at least

I will be looking more into the ins-and-outs of how to apply so I am prepared to apply right after I move.

We just got our case closed/ documentarily qualified with the NVC today (October 17th)! So happy to be on to the final steps. For any other October filers out there, I am wondering if we might get interviews in December. I count 12 people on here from August who got interviews in November. I count 6 from September who are waiting to hear about interviews. Maybe they will be able to squeeze in some October people in December? Perhaps optimistic but... fingers crossed!

No worries, it looks like the parent thread has been deleted and there's a lot to sift through.
Unfortunately that old guide was more thorough than I can be, but I'll try and hit the main points.

CR-1 and K1/K3 visa holders are eligible for EI based on needing to voluntarily leave work to relocate with/for your spouse (more info here under circumstances ). You are correct in that you don't start getting money until you receive your EAD, and as far as Ive gathered you get paid from your EAD approval date up until you get your first paycheck.
They do say you need to file a claim within 4 weeks of leaving your job, however others in this thread have successfully made a claim outside that period, so I'd give it a shot. It is also required that you have at least about 700hours of work in the last 52 weeks to be eligible as well, and there are other specifics about self eployed individuals and EI, so peruse here if needed.

There is an Out of Canada Claims office - specifically the interstate US unit you can reach here: 1-877-486-1650
It's a small team that's very friendly and should be able to point you in the right direction
OR you can try the EI customer service line: 1-800-206-7218

If you haven't already Id suggest updating your Services Canada account online with your current address. You can then apply online and check the status of your application. The application does require quite a bit of info, and can time out but it does have a save button, so make use of it! I'd suggest gathering everything mentioned here .

The process I found was pretty streamlined.
You finish the application and it will be pending for a few weeks while they create a file. From there you should receive a letter in the mail with a questionnaire about your status in the US. You mail/fax that with the required documents (usually your I-94 and a scan of your visa). Once that is processed and your case is finally accepted, you will get a letter with an access code. Shortly after that you start to receive bi-weekly report cards which you can either mail in or call in (*you will need that access code and your SIN when calling). If your EAD is taking a while from when you apply they may send you a notice putting your case on administrative hold, however it was suggested to me by them to keep doing the report calls as the hold can take up to 2 weeks to reactivate. Once you receive your EAD approval letter you can either fax it to them or mail in a copy and they'll start your payments back-paying from the date on the approval letter. Note that they can only direct deposit to a Canadian bank. So you can either go that route OR remove any direct deposit info from your account and they will mail you cheques (in canadian funds which will likely take some time to clear). From other users it looks like the pay period maxes out between 20-36 weeks, plently of time to find work. Hopefully that helps clarify things.
