people typically receive the card in about 5-10 days from when the online website said "card is mailed"
typically it's a process- one says approval i.e. "Card is being produced"
and then once it is mailed, it says something like "card is mailed"

Y'all might want to check if you're still stuck in "card being produced." I think i've heard a few people where that took more time than normal.

in regards to SS, it's been a mix
some got it the same day that EAD card came in the mail.
    Others took about another week.

I think how quickly you get SS depends on how long your card stayed in "production" before it was mailed out.

Thanks - unfortunately my case isn't showing updated (and locked out of the old site). I'm hoping its the same time frame when you receive the actual 797c letter saying EAD/AP has been approved?

I just got the approval letter on the mail for my i-765 and i-131 , both application got approved on 11/23/2018 , but nothing has changed online on both website , I will never trust those case status app again

I'm sure this has been asked over & over on this board but does anyone know the timing for actually getting the EAD/AP card (and SS for those who asked to receive a SS card)? Curious as we received the approval letters on Monday of this week.

    Thanks in advance!

  3. Question for the group and those who have had their EAD/AP approved (ahead of AOS interview) - does it get updated on the case status page that you search using your MSC number? I know the tracking for the K1 was pretty bad but I'm curious if people have had success in seeing it was approved before it came in the mail? I have USPS notifications turned out but curious (as I can't help checking daily)

Hoping the EAD/AP uptick in approval speeds continues to trend faster! Have a great weekend everyone!

    Actually no-

Keep in mind a GC is more important that an EAD because you CAN work and travel with GC. Plus it's for 2 years, not 1
So this is wonderful news for you

    Congratulations!!!!!!!!!

when checking status on the website - would the EAD/AP even update? Our would you just receive them in the mail?

Obviously GC is best - but even w/ the interview I would imagine it takes some time to go through.

Let me know if I have a correct understanding?

  5. NYC based - just checked status online and are at ready to schedule interview for AOS. EAD and AP still just show case received.

July 27th notice date for original submission of documents, plus had an RFE in August (for a birth certificate that we already included).

hopefully this is a good sign? Should i get overly excited about possibly of EAD & AP before end of November? Any insights would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Oh wow, did you just received the hard copy of the RFE? Just curious. Whose birth certificate? You or your wife (the beneficiary)

Perfect two - very happy for your speedy approval.

So received the hardcopy RFE today (i can see it on the USPS informed delivery). The request was for my wife's birth certificate, the beneficiary. We are using a lawyer and I think they may have submitted a less than perfect copy with the original package.

Perfect two - did you original receive a initial RFE - then it just magically changed to this? (am dreaming i have a similar situation haha)

Also curious if anyone is NYC based? We got a initial RFE on the I-485 and I'm worried that with the long processing times for AOS in NYC that our related EAD/AP will be further delayed. My understanding is that the processing clock passes for EAD/AP when the underlying AOS filing has an initial RFE, although id love to see if this is accurate.

    Receipt date on 797c for AOS/EAD/AP -                                                             7/20/18

Biometrics Appointment scheduled for -                                                             8/21/18

Notice of request for initial information (per website/mail hasn't arrived) -  8/10/18

Such a long, frustrating process! My wife just wants the ability to work and visit her folks and sister!

I'm now quoting myself but the RFE was for a birth certificate - which as others have noted is super frustrating because it was already provided in the original package.

I'm totally confuse now. I check my AOS status, it stated "Interview was scheduled". Anyone know what is that mean?

Also, from your list it doesn't look like you are applying for Advanced Parole. I would suggest doing this anyway, even if your fiance isn't planning on travelling back to the UK any time soon. You never know in the future between submitting AOS and receiving the Green Card if the need might arise to urgently travel back to the UK, as this can be a long time (a year or more). It's better to have the option to do be able to do so and not need it, than to not have the option and need to travel, especially as the consequences of traveling outside the US without AP and before GC can be severe.

This make sense - thank you so much - wasn't thinking of it this way.

Some SSA don't allow till you get your EAD if you changed your name after marriage. In your case that shouldn't matter since she wont change her name. We decided not to change her name and still applied for SS# before we send our AOS out.

So can i apply for the SS now? Arrival in the US is on the 18th of June, Wedding on the 22nd? It appears you would not be able to as need to be in the country (only other option looks like through I-765 form)

Additionally - on the I-765 form, if applying separately, I'm assuming you would mark 10 as No? (and then accordingly skip question 11-13)?

I'm assuming the SSA would come quickly and benefits would include the items mentioned above - healthcare, bank accounts, etc?

Thank you both for the input and thoughts - incredibly valuable!!!

  10. Thanks Alabamk - As a part of the form I-765, we will be applying for a SS number for my fiancee/soon to be wife.

Is there a benefit to doing this before/separately?

From a name change standpoint, we determined it best to leave our names exactly as is - just makes things easier.

I-94 can be printed the next day. I suggest to get SS# before getting married and before changing your name if that is the case. Sorry couldn't tell who the beneficiary is.

  11. Hi All - sorry in advance for long post!

Fiancee comes over on the K1 from the UK next week and should be ready to send the AOS package (including right to work) shortly after our NYC courthouse wedding. Wanted to put together a summary of the package and some questions to get the groups feedback. For background our case is somewhat straightforward - no children, previous marriages, issues with support, etc.

Any feedback or comments would be greatly appreciated

Including in my package to be sent to USCIS in Chicago:

    1. G-1145

    2. I-485 form + filing fees - $1,225

    3. I-797 - assumption here is that this is in my fiancee's unopened package includes this? otherwise I only have the 797C showing receipt of the I-129F form

    4. Copy of Marriage Certificate - understanding is that this does not need to certified?

    5. Birth Certificate Copy (long form including parents names)

    6. Copy of passport page w/ nonimmigrant visa

    7. Copy of passport page w/ admission or parole stamp

    8. 2 passport photos

    9. Copy of Form I-94 this form i will pull directly from the CBP website - is it updated in real time (i.e. can i pull my fiancee's arrival info next day?)

    10. I-864 form of support

    11. I-765 - no fees needed if with I-485. to confirm - any way to expediate this? I believe there isn't

    12. I-693 - currently not planning on including - can file later/possibly not needed as within one year and good on vaccinations

    Questions

    On I-485

    • Part 1, Q15-21 – to confirm this information for K1 holders would be the time they entered the US on the K1 visa (i.e. the last time they arrived)
      • For 19. does the packet include a nonimmigrant visa number?
    • Part 1, Q22 – to confirm you would select 22.a. for K1 individuals – I’ve written “K Visa Holder”
    • Part 1, Q23a-c. – assuming this information is pulled from online after K1 holder has entered country
    • Part 1, Q24. – as we have gone from engaged to married, I’ve put “K1 visa holder, now married” to reflect the current immigrant status – since I am assuming it has changed since her arrival on the K1?
    • Part 2, Q3-4 – assumption here is that I will need to pull the information from the K1’s visa holder packet after she is in the country
    • Part 3, Q1 – assumption here is that you would select no for a K1 visa holder (as their application for a K1 visa was not a permanent resident application)
    • Part 5, Q10 – As a USA citizen, I would assume that I would select “No” here as I as the spouse am not applying (just my fiancée/now wife)

    On I-765

    • Q18 – I’ve written “K1 visa holder” – confirm accurate?
    • Q19. – I’ve written in “K1 visa married applying for AOS and EAD” should I be putting something different here?

Thank you in advance to anyone who has a chance to take a look!

    Thanks

    J

  12. my fiance is currrently here visiting - while here she has scheduled her medical and hopefully soon her interview.

as missileman said - you do need to be prepared to be turned away, but my fiance has visited multiple times now while the application was in progress (i think 3 times) and had no issues at all, not even a question.

i think the only other consideration is where the person is flying to - i read on another thread (cant remember where) that someone was turned down at a smaller airport because the agents weren't used to this case.

Hi Jeff - That's correct. Sometimes they are accurate. I think the best thing to do is just try not to think about it!

The good news is that June/July are still in the thick of getting approvals, and they're starting to roll out some from August. You'll be there before you know it!

Thanks Jaquelly - appreciate it. I'm attempting to build out an estimated timeline for my partners arrival to the US. Wasn't sure if anyone had any thoughts on estimated timeline from NOA2 to K-1 visa. I've used the VisaJourney estimates to set it at 9 weeks. I've based it on the UK Embassy waiting times and being relatively conservative. Any thoughts from any one would be greatly appreciated. I'm currently with CSC and my partner is from the UK.

  14. Hi - a dumb question from a long time lurker - on the Visa Journey timeline, it says "your I129F may be adjudicated between...", does this just mean the estimate for the NOA2 to be completed (i.e. step 4 in the VisaJourney timeline) and before its submitted from the service center to the National Visa Center? Or is this a estimated timeline to getting the actual visa?

Any info would be greatly appreciated and thank you to all who post on this board regularly. It is the best resource I've found.

    Jeff
