    I know people have many different circumstance but for the USCIS there is only two 1) married 2) divorced Your best bet is is likely: 1) File divorce asap 2) Amend your I-751 to a waiver case once you have the final divorce decree and respond to your RFE at the same time If you cannot finalize your divorce before the RFE deadline you would have to respond and ask for more time and explain what happened.

    Hi all, a distant relative is a naturalized USC. His father who in not in the US has just now become a legal guardian of a 12 year old. Father is thinking of immigrating to the US via IR-5. Is it possible to take this child with him when he gets petitioned by his USC son? I think may not be a DIY but would love to hear if anyone has had similar experience and can share some details on this matter. Thanks!

    If you sent a personal check for payment then cancel the check and resend the entire package. USCIS will most certainly reject the entire package (the original one) if the payment does not go through.

    It does but they let us in anyway. Granted our situation was different since we went earlier than the scheduled date.

    You can try just showing up at the center where they take biometrics and explain what happened. They may let you in and get it done.

    Update: My mother whom I added as an authorized user on 3 of my CCs got her SSN a week or two ago. I called CC companies and added her SSN to her profiles. Her FICO score shows 770 now and she got approved for the highest CC tier the next day with high CL. I figured I'd share this if it helps someone else down the road.

    Use the expedited service. After exactly one week from the delivery of her documents reach out to your senator and fill out the constituent form. I have done a lot of research on this and works like a charm. I had my passport and the naturalization certificate delivered to me via UPS on day 9. You must pay for fastest service and delivery possible. I was in a bind after I naturalized to get the passport and read a lot on this. Many others reported luck with senator's help. I would avoid going the route which you described.

    I am sure a lot of people have thought about neutralizing each other after divorce 😀 Joke aside I do not believe you need his birth certificate to apply. You are jot applying under a 3 yr rule. You only need you marriage certificate and divorce decree.

    I thought thatyou had to have an approved petition to receive a SSN. We ticked the box on both I-485 and I-765

    Makes sense. I did not know that the box on I-485 triggered that. Good to know.

    Right, but I am pretty sure K1 gets SSN even without the EAD or GC. Our AOS is family based which is why it is strange that the SSN card was issued before EAD is even printed.

    Yes and makes sense. I am just weirded out by the fact that SSN was printed on 2/13 which is a day before EAD approval document is dated in the online account. SSA must have got that info even earlier than that I assume... it is just strange.

    In the online account (under documents tab) it shows that the EAD approval letter was issued on 2/14. We do not yet have the EAD card, the status shows actively reviewed and informed delivery has no sign of any mail coming our way. NOW... we received the SSN card today and it shows printed on 2/13 which is a day before EAD was even approved. I know USCIS is weird but what in the world is going on...

    Some are poorly scanned as same pages show up a few times (at least for me). My guess is that whoever the third party contractor they are using is just jamming papers into the scanner without checking it again. If pages are stuck together and that is how it scans they let it happen. This is not to say that they do not have what you sent but everything is possible with the USCIS.

    I-751s take awfully long. Mine took 28 months. Are you thinking about naturalizing? You are likely already eligible. Filing N-400 usually moves things fast.

    I see, thanks. So if she decides to get a DL she should first think about where she wants to be a resident. If she decides the other state then she would need to file address change with the USCIS.

    Some of you may remember my posts from a few weeks ago. My mother who has a pending AOS from B2 visa (concurrent filing) just got her EAD approved. If we decide to own property in a different state and be back and forth a lot can she claim residency in both states while her AOS is pending? By claiming residency I mean to have a registered address and possibly a DL in that state? She would maintain her current address as well (where we live now).

    Do you know if one needs to call CC issuers to link the SSN (speaking about authorized users) after they get the SSN assigned? Or perhaps it automatically happens somehow?
