I was planning on driving my car across the border when i enter for the first time. Is there any type of documentation that i need to present. I have my ownership and insurance docs.
-
My K1 was finally approved and I"m making the big move in 10 days. I'm just wondering what the process is at the Port of Entry (POE). HOw long does it take? Are there a lot of questions? I"m crossing with a Uhaul and i"m assuming they will need to search through all my belongings; should i have every box labelled? Are there a lot of forms or anything i need to complete. I'll be bringing my dog and his rabies shots are up to date so i hope I only need to provide documentation showing rabies?? My fiance will be with me.Oh and should i call ahead to let them know i'm coming?? Any suggestions tips and/or background would be greatly appreciated. I'm crossing at Port Huron in MIchigan.

My K1 was finally approved (yah!) and now im trying to figure out the logistics of moving. I read that you can ship all your stuff AFTER you have moved to the US which i wouldnt mind doing. I have no clue where to start with moving companies or how the whole process works. Im assuming my stuff will need to go thru canadian/american customs?? Im also not sure how expensive it is to use a moving company. If too expensive ill probably just use Uhaul but would prefer to someone else do the move if possible. Does anyone have any experience with moving companies and/or what the process entails. Would love some recommendations. thank u!!

thanks! so i guess my best bet is to find a connecting flight outside of the US
-
My K1 visa expires in jan 2019. Before i enter the US i was planning on visiting Ecuador but most flights connect thru the US. If i have a connecting flight thru the US will this count as me entering the US?? Or should i find flights that dont go thru the US?

The email I received from Montreal in mid June didn't have an appointment on it. It only had instructions telling me how to book an appointment. Not sure what you mean by "CC".
-
-I received notice first week of May from NVC that my case has been forwarded to embassy in Montreal.
- 6 weeks later in mid June I received notice from montreal consulate that said I could schedule my interview online.
- it took about 2.5 few weeks to actually book the appt online because the site kept saying no appointments were available but finally a slot opened up and we were able to book the appt. the earliest appt available was for a month later (i.e. on aug 1st)

I dont have a question; just an update. I'm a july 2017 filer and i had my appointment in Montreal on August 1, 2018 and it went great! everyone was very nice at the embassy.
-my appt was at 730am. i arrived at 645ish and there were a few people in line.
-doors opened at 730. They allowed us to enter one at a time. My fiance came with me and we both had to show our passports and i had to show my letter that indicated my appt time of 730 and then we were given a sheet of paper that had a number on it as well as instructions how to assemble our paperwork (you just have to put your paper work in a certain order; very easy; and lots of time to do this when you get to waiting room).
-Note; there was a girl who was in line ahead of me who had an 8am appointment and she was asked to wait until the 730am appointments were let in first.
-once in the waiting room, I was called up to a wicket style window. The person behind the window will ask you to hand them your documents one at a time. So for example, he said can you hand me your birth certificate underneath the glass. he takes some notes and then will ask you for whatever document he wants next.
-he also asked me to put my hands on a machine that will take your fingerprints. And then he instructed me to go back to my seat and i would be called again. it was all very easy and he was very nice.
-about 15-20 mins later i was called to another wicket style window where i was asked some questions about my fiance; i.e. where we met, what he does, where we met etc. The lady was very nice and the questions were basic info you would know about your fiance. It took about 15 mins. Not long at all. And that was it. She said my visa package would be mailed to me and it would take about 2 weeks.
Hope that helps
Also - note - no drinks or food allowed inside the embassy so the tim horton coffee i purchased a block from the embassy i had to chug really fast
Oh and no backpacks allowed either. And no cellphones. they take your cell phone and keep it in a locker on-site so you can bring your phone, you just cant take it past the main entrance.

Thank you so much! After waiting almost 3 weeks for an appointment to become available in Montreal I finally got one so was panicking abit about finding medical office. Thank you again!! Going into the 11th month of this whole process so getting exciting to see the end soon fingers crossed!

I received letter from consulate in Montreal to book interview and medical appointment. The problem is the link in the email they sent me to get info about medical isnt working . the letter states:
"To schedule a medical examination, please visit http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/immigrant-process/interview/prepare/medical-examination.html and select Montreal as your case processing post at step 2"
Does anyone have correct URL?

just wondering if anyone else is having a hard time getting an appointment. I'm trying to book appt online but every time I try it says no appts available. Ive been trying for about 1.5 weeks.

Im still confused about the Police certificate. The instructions say: "Applicants who are physically present in Canada should contact their local police service or Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) office regarding criminal record check procedures. Applicants may obtain a certificate of no conviction issued by any Canadian police service so long as it notes that Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or the national criminal records repository was searched using the applicant's name and date of birth. Applicants should ensure that the search includes all names that they have previously used, including maiden names, prior married names, or names used before Canadian naturalization. "
The certificate i received via email for 50+ dollars notes that the national criminal records repository was searched. The instructions dont say that i need an embossed or physical certificate. Just wondering if anyone has been to the interview and had their certificate rejected? Also, when i completed the request online there was no option to have a mailed one to me. they only asked me what the purpose of the search was for and i indicated it was for a k1 visa.
-
i completed online and it said they will email me a results in 2-3 days so i guess maybe ill wait a week and see if anything comes in the mail as well. Im hoping when i get the email it will have info about hard copy originals. fingers crossed.
-
oh gosh. i didnt know about the embossed seal?? The website i went to https://www.commissionaires.ca didnt have that option. It only offered an "enhanced" check but that required a fingerprint scan.
-
Thanks for the criminal record check info. I found the website and submitted the request online. Should be here in 2-3 days
Total cost $62.15 with tax.

Just a quick update ..i received my packet 3 instructions in mail on Monday
( im a july 2017 filer ) . Another quick question... in the list of docs required in the instructions..its says "police certificate" . What is that?? Is it something i need to contact my local police dept to get? I dont have any offences except for speeding tickets.

Congratulations! I started process in July 2017 (date I received NOA1) and nearing the end I hope! quick timeline question if u don't mind .. on may 9th , 2018 I received a notice stating my case had been forwarded from NVC to Montreal. How long did it take for you to get a letter from Montreal with additional info (i.e. appointment date)? I'm not really sure what happens next. I know I'm sitting here waiting..im just not sure what I'm waiting for exactly...a letter to arrive I think
Thanks for the help!! #movingtoMichigan

@debbiedoo "why can you not get more photos?" .... the application hasnt been approved yet. The letter requesting more information specifically states that all photos, reciepts etc must be from dates prior to July 3rd, 2017 (which is the date our application was received ). We've been dating for 17 months now but werent great at taking pics or keeping receipts from when we first met back in August 2016 up until the date we submitted the I-129F
we are taking several pics and keeping records now, in case we need at interview (assuming they let us make it that far ugh) but for now the prob is providing evidence for the times we have been together from aug 2016 to july 2017.

@geowrian never heard of I-94 history for the crossings into the US....thanks for the info ..ill check out the link now
-
thanks for the help all. Im a newbie so super thankful for the help
- agree @ironpatriot1 about the border crossing info. We have crossed together several times at the Michigan/Ontario, Canada border so Im sure they have a record of the crossing. Not sure why immigration cant access that info but oh well.
- @bakphx1@aol.com unfortunately passports dont get stamped at the US/Canada border where I am. They just view it and hand it back so no luck there
- we are going to get affidavits i guess of ppl who can confirm they've been with us at events (weddings / social gatherings etc)
- we will also dig thru bank/credit card records and find a record of purchase at same place / time / location / names / dates. Im sure while he was pumping gas, i was in the store buying a bag of chips at some point...i hope!
hotel receipts - we've been to several but only ONE of us ever pays. so there would only be proof that ONE of us stayed at that particular hotel so not sure we can use those receipts.
photos in front of landmarks - unfortunately its too late for us to take. The photos would have had to be taken prior to July 3rd and we dont have any that date back that far
-
NOA1 date = July 3, 2017
Jan 17th received letter requesting more info. Problem - my finance and i live 8 hours apart. We have been driving back and forth to see each other. We dont have any airline tickets or other documents that show both our names on it to prove we have met in person. We sent photos of us together but still received a letter requesting more proof. We have videos but the letter specifically says NO videos?? We dont know what to send as proof?? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Entering US for firs time - Can i bring my car
in Canada
Posted
Is it possible to NOT import my vehicle. For example, Im moving in 5 days. My fiance is coming to get me , we were going to load up both of our vehicles and be on our way. Is it possible for me to NOT import my car, and instead return to Canada after i get my green card and sell it in Canada. I will be back here visiting lots because I`m only 8 hours away (MIchigan to Ontario)
