You see, this goes to my question.  I have read the instructions...very carefully.  I have a lot of legal experience, just not in this.  A careful reading of Question 34a plainly states they want to know the circumstances of your in person meeting, not how you initially met.  These are two different things.  Your specific example could have drawn a RFE....because you didn't name the dating website...or maybe you did and are just not stating it here and maybe you submitted their terms and conditions along with your i129F, but once more, you didn't state whether you submitted them or not.

Did you name the website? And did you include their terms and conditions? What year was this? Thanks

It is not a misrepresentation to not include something the form and instructions don't ask for.  They don't ask, why tell?

Lots of people have advice but I'm looking for situations whereby someone didn't 'tell their story' and got a RFE for IMBRA...recently...like in the last couple of years.  Thanks

I just did that search and I didn't find much.  From what I gathered, it seems as though some filers brought the RFEs upon themselves....they told their story but it raised questions.

My attorney was clear not to provide too much information.  Not only could it delay the review of your case as there is more material to process and vet, but it also opens up much more room for scrutiny and questions.  If you have the checklist, provide a good sampling of evidences, and document your visits well you will be fine.  The quality of factual information you provide is much more important than the volume of it.  I just happened to have my boarding passes in my bag as I didn't know we would be pursuing this process on my 1st visit, typically I would never think to keep something like that.  The fact they want originals to prove you were on the plane speaks to the legitimacy of previous comments about taking pictures next to temperature and date/time signs holding a newspaper.  It is funny, because it is true.

Sounds like you are front loading to me ;). Seriously, it is all relative. I just had one picture in our application packet. My now-wife then brought an album worth to the embassy for the interview. When I submitted our packet, I didn't know about VJ whatsoever, and just followed the instructions. Only "discovered" the site when I was wondering how long it usually took to get the NOA2. Kinda glad about that, since I think I would have stressed out more about the application process after reading posts here...

I'm one who doesn't believe in front-loading for easy embassies, I think it can actually be suspicious to provide too much information.

I'll share our experience with our approved I-129F although it was 5 years ago: stated we met on a penpal website, then when we met in person.  No T&C, no RFE.

    Exactly!

After reading in this site. I think the cause of RFE is for example saying you met on Facebook or tinder. These are not IMBRA so you check the box "no" this is not omitting information. By statin these when not asked causes RFEs to prove they are not IMBRA but nobody asks how you met unless it is an IMBRA they ask when and how you met in PERSON.

@JonJulia I'm right there with you. I had always been wondering why people were disclosing using a dating site in the I-129F. I was always under the impression that it was best to concisely answer the questions that are asked, and nothing more.

My NOA1 date is May 30th, so I'm expecting to get some kind of notification in the next couple weeks. I'll let you know if it's an RFE, though I'm not expecting it will be.

Just to clarify, there isn't a question about regular websites, only marriage broker (IBM) websites.  If you mark 'no' on question 55 and met on match.com, etc., then that's not a misrepresentation.

Why are people getting RFE's for HOW they met?  There is NOT one single question on the I-129F that pertains to circumstances of how people have met initially.  The only required information is how you met IN PERSON.

Is the RFE just a result of front-loading? Did somebody tell their story (which isn't required) and mention meeting on a website....but didn't name it?

Help me out here.  If it doesn't ask for it, I'm not going to put it in there.  It seems to me that with so many applications.....someone could use it as a good excuse to kick it to the side.

Why wouldn't it be a better practice to wait until you need to send the I-134, beneficiaries' information, etc, to send your story in?
