I seem to remember illegal spouses being added to DEERS, they would not have a SSN usually.

Yea I only heard about it never actually knew or met one. So it’s like in the end they can do whatever, I am also wondering how spouses & their kids get on deers when the sponsors assigned to overseas base which is the spouses home country, clearly they won’t have any us immigration status yet since they are at home but they still get on deers & come to base & all that. So if it works for them why wouldn’t it for his stepson?

  2. I agree , I’m sorry. But when we updated deers they needled her passport & her visa & birth certificate, later when we updated again they asked for her social security card which we could get after she had a ead/ap card , we couldn’t get ssn for my daughter with her unexpired k2 visa only for me at that time. But once we got ead/ap cards it worked. I still don’t know why I think because it’s stepchild.with green cards it’s even easier, just show the green card & you get it.also you are military so you can get expedited & I think there is also a priority lockbox but I think you have to pay more , I saw something like this on my recent notifications on the background it’s worth a call to try & see ,It’s called form I-907 & it’s called premium processing service . I never used it so I can’t tell you nothing more about it but you can try , good luck!

Post like this spread misinformation which is not helpful.

Lol what’s wrong about working. I haven’t claimed anything just telling you what I know , that happend to me, my main point wasn’t who is lawfully financially responsible for the person, it is more the potential that they can check on that too , they did it with me & even on the interview they asked me “do you still work there” of course I said not no more by that time  because it’s only fair to my employer to let him know about my plans so they can find a replacement for me. Because that’s what a good citizen does. & that is the main point I think they ask those questions not only for background checks (primary) but secondary to paint a picture about each individual person, how you gone look when they ask you where have you worked & you haven’t put anything on there , & then they ask you in person & you ‘re just like I never worked, if i was the officer I would have only one thing to think of first after hearing this response “here goes another food stamp” please don’t get offended. But it is always the same.

she doesn’t have to worry about that bc she do has a job she just wanted to know when to quit , I advised not until the interview process because they can always ask & you don’t wanna look bad , it doesn’t matter if you are being taken care of later by your spouse , you can only represent yourself once , because they only know you from documents.

Check to see if you are working?

Never heard that being a requirement on the K1 visa application.

Can you explain your thought process a little more for me.

Yes sir. By the end of my k1 process & before I have been invited to the interview, they send me back a package with a copy of the original petition that had the approved stamp on it & a checklist & a letter where I had to tell them wherever I used to live & live now & where I used to work & work now/recently worked. I had to send that back.

It’sjust common sense to me that they are awaiting a potential new citizen that can work for the country & don’t be dependent on the state , for example , apply for social security benifits right away after they are granted a green card .

  5. Me& my then 6 year old daughter took 4 suitcases 2 backpacks , my big shopper handbag , a teddy bear for the plane & a a huge Aldi shopping bag(the sturdy ones) & there was my wedding dress bc i didn’t want it to get lost on the plane but my hands were full also to carry this big thing so I carfully folded it in that bag & had it as carry on as well , not to mention I had to carry all these things myself besides one backpack & a teddy bc my daughter was to small to lift the heavy luggage , luckily the ppl at the baggage claim were so nice to me & help me load up onto a cart , I had a stop at another airport but they transferred the suitcases already . Most of the stuff in there was my daughters my stuff which were some clothes the rest were toys & plush animals clothing for my child books keepsakes . I must say though I planned ahead, I came to the us in March but I visited my then fiancé the summer before & brought in most of my clothes & purses & left it there. Also my friend traveled to my husbands city du to work & I handed her over 1 suitcase so she could drop it off at him , this was a special suitcase bc it had all my daughters baby clothes & toys in them bc 1. We wanted more kids so it was convenient 2. I couldn’t let go :,( . So if you can plan ahead. We’re ended up needing the baby suitcase bc I fell pregnant shortly after we got married . Now our baby can come any day now :) good luck to everyone & if you can’t separate from something find a way to get it to you , it helps with home sickness!

  6. Hey!

I would wait until you are at the interview state , just because they might check if you are still working , a k1 ist still a non immigrant  visa, therefore they will take a look at how you go about your business or you just relying on them . I’m pretty sure they mention on the noa’s do not not make any plans, they don’t say that just because they care , but also because as a citizen of your country you still have responsibilities, do not become a charge of the state because then the chances are high that you will become their problem sometime soon as well, during the whole process you gotta keep a clean vest & show character that you can manage by yourself (they ask on the interview so what you doing sometimes you don’t wana look like a bum) . That’s important too. So I lived with my mom so no 3 month notice & got a job near my moms I just took any job just to keep money flowing, I didn’t sell my car, my mom did after I left , it could always be something you know. I didn’t spend any money besides groceries so I had money when i’m came to the us. Be smart about it bc you gone be depending on your husband for quiet a long time & that can become stressful over time.

  7. Instead of sending her & your sisters money why won’t you save that & come to the Philippines by yourself ? You are able to freely travel, so just go there. It’s less stressful for both parties.

I agree with everyone here. If they don’t have ties then it’s a wrap. USA want to welcome tourists with money so they can spend it here in their economy & wish them to return to their home country when they’re done. 3 months is too long of a vacation for a farmer in a red flag country. As hard as it sounds & if you follow the news it’s going to get even harder. Just make sure you have enough money so you can go there & visit & maybe help your parents out.

  8. Bummer!

There must be  something cheap you can find too. I just got out of thread reading something about health care . Try google affordable health care there must be something that pops up for you read through the policies not that you get something bad & always aim for those you can cancel anytime. Even if they are a bit more expensive. It will all pay back later but that is something you must do bc you need medical attention. Good luck

  9. You are very fortunate to receive an interview so fast. You will get something in the mail too , a actual date & checklist, I think what happens here is that they skipped ead/ap & went straight to GC. It can happen, doesn’t happen often but it can. Lucky you, you don’t have to await actual process times . Bc if you interview for gc & most likely it will get approved what you need a ead/ap for ? It’s just for in meantime to use while your case is pending anyway.

Its crazy I see some posts here where people say they over there process times & wait months & nothing is updated & then Chicago over here gets it done ! Congrats again & good luck.

  10. Hi! Congratulations!

On the checklist it says if you cannot speak English bring an verified interpreter. Yes you must come with him.

& they can ask all types of questions & sometimes they hardly ask any. Go check the reviews of your uscis office & go from there. Bring all your documents if not already submitted, original certificates.

Photos. They will probably ask him where he plan to work & how will he manage. I assume since your in a Russian community you will have many Russian speaking potential employers for your husband. They can’t harass anybody who is not confident in the language , he just got here. Many people live here for decades & still can’t speak good english . Don’t worry. Sometimes the officers have a cultural background too, in my area a lot of  Mexican officers.

I wish you good luck & make sure you get a interpreter fast.

  11. Oh I ran into troubles with the dmv(Texas) also, 2 Times! Each time they said they need my status to be verified by uscis ,

1st time I was there after my k1 has expired in the passport but I gave them up to date aos processing documents, 3 weeks later letter in the mail uscis verified your status you can come in & get your state id or dL , next time I went in I already had my ead/ap card by then & I thought It was even easier bc I got new cards ,sike, same problem they couldn’t find me on the computer , so send me home again & told me to wait until I get verified & come back , I still didn’t get no letter from them meanwhile my conditional residency got approved soon I get a green card & I’m pretty sure when I get back I still won’t be able to test. All I want Is a drivers permit... so I can practice drive ing because I am scared to drive by myself -so I won’t plan to take the drivers test for now.

Do you guys have any tips on what to say next time I get there , i’m Tired of playing hokey pokey with them.

  12. Aww I wish you guys good luck. I filed mine in end of June & got the cards end of September. With rfe in between in July. It seems like all offices at the moment are very busy with work overload , the processing time can take longer , maybe so long that they might skip your ead/ap & go straight to aos ?-think positive.

Many reasons for them to take long , maybe you get an upcoming rfe (which doesn’t mean always bad) , or the manufacturers for the cards ran out to produce them on time (happens even with passports & nobody can do anything about that) ,most important is to not feel guilty, that you did anything wrong or out of order, if your positive with all your documents then you just gotta be patient, they tell us guys to not make any greater plans during the whole process of aos ,for the sake of it. If you read the news at the moment they are very busy with other greater immigration problems , like daca, you can feel blessed that you aren’t one of them , you done all that was asked from you just give it time & relax I know it’s sucky but we all have to go through the same & majority of us make it. Good luck.

  13. Dear friend.

please don’t rush expedite travel on uscis, every consular officer that I asked told me the same , ap lets you travel for emergency back & forth but none of them would recommend it due to issues on returning , if you really that sick you’ll be stuck overseas & then here they will ask you why didn’t you get care here in the first place , if your partner wants to take care of you here in the us , why didn’t he/she made sure you are covered , it will raise many unnecessary questions. I would if I was you try to finance care , so you can stay here by any means , you can pay it off later when your process is done but please listen to me take care of your health now don’t leave here, you can get help , call Medicaid or go to your local community center & ask what’s the best to do in your case maybe they have programs where you can get help, do all this first before you consider to leave here!

  14. With me also, 2 weeks ago I got confused bc on my interview letter it said I need to bring a civil surgeon form (I don’t remember the form number ) , it is a different form , I did some research, the ds form is made overseas & the the other form from the civil surgeon is made in the us , they have the same purpose but are called different, & since I have already submitted ds forms with my aos application there was no need for me to get another one from a civil surgeon, many ppl fall into this & end up doing an extra exam just to get the other form , which you don’t need if your medical isn’t expired , civil surgeons take advantage of those insecure people & get money from them , unless uscis doesn’t mail you that you have to update your exam due to expiration don’t get nothing else done-

1.the officer at the Poe has your original ones so uscis has them too

    2. You have copies of them just make sure you copy them all the too so you have them at home in case they do loose them

  15. Please call & ask. Have you mentioned in the application that you are expecting. Usually it shouldn’t be a problem to take new or updated documents to the interview. But always call & ask.

    1. Send only copies

    2. Keep originals for interview

You must prove that the baby has a birth certificate & SSN & passport .

the baby & all other kids must attend the interview .

I’m pretty sure you have to make a new affidavit too , you have to anyways bc a new tax season starts & your income might change. So get everything updated, even if they might not clearly inform you that you need to , do it anyways & save it in your files just in case it ends up you need it. Sometimes the hotline doesn’t give clear answers & you end up with no information. Just plan ahead for in case be proactive. If nobody ask for it good,if they do you can provide all they need! Don’t be lazy you still have time to get everything done ahead of time.

  16. Don’t worry rfe’s are a way of saying oh you forgot something. Make sure when you get it to call & ask about it again, most of the time it’s documents missing, mine was for a irs Document missing in my husbands affidavit when we filed for aos

Whatever you get give them all you can think of if not sure always ask! Better safe than sorry. Denials are seldom & if there is always a way to reapply , it might be upsetting but you gotta do what you gotta do.

  17. Don’t let it get transferred, it could take even longer, be content with the place you have now, it’s also easier for them to process since they don’t have to look for your case all over the offices, or worst case they loose it & it takes longer & longer , leave it where it is if they need to transfer it then on their own orders don’t make it more complicated. Just hang on a few months is nothing compared to the rest of your life.
