Just wanted to let you all know that we received our k-1 visa! after no updates at all we got one update in late November, two updates in one week in December and then our status changed to issued the next week. We got a call to redo our expired medical and soon after we picked up the visa. Don't lose hope it took us six months but the process moved so quickly at the end!

Has anybody been through administrative processing after having to fill out form DS-5535? I had my k-1 fiancee visa interview on June 5th, I was told that my visa was approved but was put into AP the day I was supposed to pick it up. The consular officer told me that my case was being sent to Washington DC for what I believe is a security advisory opinion because my name had a match in the consular database. I am still in AP and my last update on CEAC was on June 9th. Has anyone gone through something similar? I know that most cases should be resolved within 60 days but I am already nearing that mark with no changes.

Hi to you and everyone else who have been on this thread. I want to update everyone with my fiancé’s case. After 120 days of waiting he case finally got issued on Nov 21st. It was a long stressful journey but thankfully it’s over. The CO gave his passport back because he had to do his medical and they sent his passport along with his medical reports back to the embassy.

I have some good news to share. We were on AP for a little over two months. We got four updates since two months mark. And finally today the CEAC status says Issued. This was a very stressful journey and I am glad it is over. This forum was very helpful. I like to thank this forum and the people who runs it and everyone else who help and support each other. For those of you who are waiting due to AP. Be patient and you will hear the good news soon. I wish you guys all the best.

No changes for my case. During the interview, they asked him a lot of questions concerning his family that's here in the states. On the form, it ask about siblings so I'm starting to think he was given this form so they can research his family. I don't know, just trying to remain sane 😃

As others have said, everyone goes through some period of AP. In Morocco, long periods of AP can be common. In our case, we were in AP for all of 2 days as the visa was being processed and printed. Others are not so lucky and wait weeks or months. Unfortunately it can be difficult to predict AP timelines at the Casablanca consulate... If the interview goes well and the officer says the case is approved, AP tends to only be a few days unless there is a missing document. If the interview has a negative or even just a neutral outcome (as in the officer didn't directly say the case was approved), these cases tend to turn into denials after months of waiting and hearing no response. If you are given the DS-5535 to submit (seemingly random applicants are selected, not sure how or why), expect to wait in AP anywhere from a few weeks to a few months before being issued the passport with the visa inside.

Just wanted to let you know that, today, I finally have my visa in hand. Not sure if the delay was caused by it or not, but it doesn't matter now  
 
And before you ask, yes, I did fill out DS-5535, and yes, I did email the Consulate to inquire about my case, and yes, my case on CEAC was updated a few times before finally and miraculously changing to ISSUED.

Hey, you should call the embassy and ask them what to do since they are holding your passport anyways, even if you got your visa tomorrow I don't think they can put it on an expired passport. Also you said you had your interview in December so I assume you had to have a medical exam for that, the medical exam that I had before my interview is only valid for six months so yours might have already expired and you need that to be able to enter the U.S. for a k-1 so you should ask the embassy about that as well because unfortunately you might have to get a new medical exam :/

Them keeping your passport is almost always a good sign. They only keep it if they think they will need to add a visa to it in the future.
