  3.

    Folks,

My wife and I had our interview Tuesday 01/30 at the Baltimore field office. Our interview was scheduled for 4pm but we didn't see the field officer until 5pm.  After a relatively short interview we were given the 120 day decision letter with no verbal decision. Confused as I sat there i asked if she was going to give us a verbal decision,  she goes "i have no reason to deny you". Fast forward, last night my wife received "card is being produced" email and text notifications. YAYY!

I have provided a quick run down of the interview questions and procedure below. Not the best so please feel free to asked any questions that would be helpful to you.

We were sworn in, asked for ID's and my wife standard questions from the I485 form, she then asked her about me(Full name, DOB, where i was born, profession. etc.), went through standard YES/NO questions and that was it. Turned to me, asked to confirmed name, DOB and address.

She asked about supporting/additional documents. We gave her Bank statements, credit cards, pictures, wedding guest list and Insurance documents(Health, Dental, Vision and Auto). She look through the pictures asked a few questions and gave them back. Asking if we would like to give her a few for our file. she said it wasn't mandatory so we took all back.

We gave her the I693  last minute after she forgot to ask for it.

Congratulations. Based on the processing time at your guys' Baltimore office, it's still in NOV 2016. However you all received the interview notice. My local office is April 2017, but February filers have not received the interview notice yet. I wonder when my turn is coming.  Sigh. No clue at all.

    Thank you.

There's good news coming your way. Just hold on tight.

  5. Just in time for the holidays. Received letter to appear for 01/30/2018 interview appointment. Baltimore Maryland field office is where the interview will be held.

    Happy Friday everyone,

My wife received two I-797 notices (NOTICE OF ACTION) today. My heart literally jump immediately i saw the letters in the mailbox (i know i'm dramatic). After a few deep breaths i opened the letter and it was a notice of approval for my wife's EAD and AP. :)

Approved 10/02/2017 and they are both valid for a year.

I want to point out my online status did not change. This confirms what a lot of you guys have said about the online status not being up to date.

if you're reading this there's good news coming your way. I would also suggest you contact USCIS if your case is outside normal processing time. https://egov.uscis.gov/e-Request/Intro.do

I don’t know if it even worth it to try and expedite it because you’re probably a week or so of having it approved...do you have anyway to make an infopass at your local field office? I think that would be best to take a letter from her employer and all documents to the field office to see what they can do for you.

Now about her drivers license, it’s funny because it was actually a friend of mine that is in Maryland that told me that I could get a drivers license with the NOA1 of the I-485 (like she did in Maryland, regardless of the fact that she was illegal for over a year)...I got my drivers license with my I-94 also expired for couple of

months and it is valid for a year from the date that I applied, all that I brought with me was I-94, passport, all my NOA1 and prof of address (I didn’t have to do a test because I have a previous and expired drivers license here in Florida).

I think you should try it again because the person beside the woman that took me at DMV was trying to convince her that I could not have the drivers license with a expired I-94 and she had to go to the law book and show it to her friend to finalize the process. Depending on the person that takes you, if they have never been across the same situation, they won’t make much effort to help you.

    Good Luck!

So after reading your reply (Thank you), I visited the Maryland MVA website and for non- U.S. citizen drivers license renewal they require the following

    • Current temporary MD driver's license.
    • Updated documents proving your legal U.S. presence.
    • Social Security number or proof of your ineligibility.
    • Payment.

My take on this is, depending on their interpretation "document proving your legal U.S. presence", the I-485 NOA1 might fly. So we are going to try again as you suggested. Hopefully we get lucky :)

Regarding her employer, she works for an international organisation and they actually help employees acquire G4 Visas. she already went through the first screening and she is eligible for the Visa. The problem is, G4 visas are typically applied for at a U.S. embassy or consulate. Meaning she would have to travel outside the U.S. possibly a neighboring country for example mexico to get the visa (her boss asked her to do that if her EAD is taking too long). I see this as an unnecessary cost and very time consuming especially when we might possibly receive her EAD anytime from now (fingers crossed). Moreover with Trump, i would not advice anyone to travel outside the country if you have any pending immigration benefits.

I guess the point I'm trying to make here is i'm not sure if her employer will be willing to give her a letter of that kind since they provide alternative visas to work in the U.S for their foreign nationals. We will definitely give it a try and ask for the letter anyways and look into getting an infopass at the Baltimore field office.

I see a lot of pressure coming her way at work if she doesn't get her work authorization documents sorted out soon. Most likely we would have to push for an infopass simultaneously as we wait for her EAD.

Thank you so much for your help.

  9. Hi everyone,

So my wife has been in the USA a little over 6 years with F-1 student status. She graduated last year from a masters program and is currently working with her OPT status (post completion). Her OPT (Optional Practical Training) expires in a couple of days and we are wondering what steps we should take to expedite her EAD. I have provided our timeline below.

Her drivers license expires tomorrow and the only way to renew is to provide her pending EAD at Maryland Motor vehicle administration. Also she started a new job two weeks ago and they require her to provide updated work authorization document when her OPT expires.

Please feel free to ask me questions if that is going help you understand my situation better.
