When I first started learning about this process I thought of hiring a lawyer.  Then quickly learned, after talking with a few lawyers on the phone, most knew less about the process than I did.

Then I found this site, and the rest is history.

I am very thorough about everything, and I've learned if you want something done right, do it yourself.

Just saw a topic from someone that got a RFE because they didn't send the explanation on how they met, plus apparently they didn't send proof of having met in person in the last two years either.
They had hired a lawyer to help with the application

This has me thinking, seriously... Gary tells me some times (joking?) I should work on the States helping people preparing their petitions. Well, evidence seems to be it wouldn't be that difficult to do the average job  *smh*
(BTW, he only says that because he barely moved a finger to prepare our package and, when so, it was under strict instructions and push  I don't know why he still thinks, after 3 years, that stroking an ego I don't have is going to get him anywhere with me, when he's just having a lax attitude).

The down side of Informed Delivery is that after the hope has drained from the empty mailbox you're relegated to the role of cheerleader without the rare tracker updates. So on the cheerleader note... Come on, folks... Let the good news updates begin!

The heavens have indeed heard you. Matt called USCIS earlier at 3:30pm for the first time she talked to a nice costumer service and said he would like to inquire about our case and ask that he may be transferred to a tier 2 officer. She then got our details and Matts fone number and said he will receive a call back in 75 minutes. I was telling Matt maybe they will not call since it's already almost their time to go off work but then the he received a call from the tier 2 and said our case was approved today.when he called me I just couldn't believe it. But thanks God we finally got our Noa2. For all those who are still waiting just hang on there yours is coming soon.

After the app showed yesterday one Approval for a case dated as April 18th, I've just checked the cases for that day again, and haven't seen any moves there, so I assume that was Notice Date after all.
Yep, not helpful at all, but I was curious about that

When the tracker was working for the day a week or so ago at least 6 of the 12 or so approvals that set off the app notification were approvals for Philippines cases. Most were from March but they were definitely getting some love.

Actually her fiance called USCIS and was told by a tier 2 officer they were approved, so yep... Informed Delivery is really quiet today

It doesn't look like it's required in LA County. The requirements vary by county. LA's only requirement for a marriage license is proof of identity (passport, drivers license, alien registration card, etc.) If you've been divorced within the past two years you'll need proof of the divorce.

Have you ever seen the movie Armageddon?  It's one of my favorite movies (although I cry like a baby every time Harry says goodbye to his daughter).  Anyway, every time someone mentions the tracker not working I think of the scene where the cosmonaut freaks out because the shuttle isn't working and they need to take off.  He runs over to the computer board thingy and starts hacking at it with a wrench and yells "this is how we fix things on Russian Space Station!" and all of a sudden it starts working!  I wonder if someone at USCIS could do the same thing for us.  Anyway, I digress

A couple reasons I can think of. First, you'll need a SSN to claim your OH on your taxes. Filing as a married couple saves you a LOT of tax dollars. Second, if you have insurance through your employer you will need a SSN for your OH to get them on your plan. AoS takes a year. That's a long time to not get the official benefits of being married from not having an SSN.

Don't give up hope.  It will happen.  I know how hard it is to have the patients, believe me.

That is a question for the local DMV in your state.  I have looked and for Oregon, she can get her DL with some information.  Need to show that she lives here and have the K-1 or I-94 information.  You need to look at your specific state though.
