Copy or original? Was GC valid during that travel or already expired?
Copy and it was expired.... expired 01/03/2022 and she traveled 4 times a year to Japan to see her mother and son.

Do you have physical watermarked extension letter? The first issue you may face is airline not accepting the printout and denying boarding. Some were lucky to board with copy but it's more of an exception than rule.
It hasn't arrived yet but in the past she always flew with a copy the original we always kept at home for fear of losing it.

Did you receive the paper copy?
Remember that is risky for her to travel with the downloaded version instead of the physical copy.
If she tries to use the online version, is a gamble. She can be denied boarding and lose the money spent on the tickets.
Regardless, let us know how it goes. Good luck!
This is what we got. USCIS told me we are good to go.

I have seen cases where a copy worked. I have seen cases where it didn't work. However, the official Carrier information guide says the original extension letter must accompany the expired Green Card:
Carrier Information Guide- English (cbp.gov)
I understand, I'm just saying what the USCIS rep told us.

Yeah, that's good! Congrats!
You should be getting the receipt through mail within 2 or 3 weeks.
We spoke with USCIS and they said that once we get the I797 extension she can travel with a copy as long as she has the expired green card and passport and her ID's.

i thought it would take a few days for the regular mail.
The letter is not uploaded to the portal. Will they upload it?

I would recommend the original.
I've read that some people tried using a printed copy and they got denied boarding by the airline staff at the airport.
This email was just received although my check for the $750.00 doesn't show in my bank it might tomorrow or the next day... this is very good news--- I hope

That's rough. I'm sorry all this has happened to you.Sadly, there's nothing you can do. Just wait until you get the extension letter by mail and then mail it to her to Japan through FedEx.
You should receive it within 30 to 45 days. She will be able to return to the US with her green card and that letter.
Before buying flight tickets, the first thing you should always do is check if your passport or green card is expired.
For the I-751, USCIS sent me a reminder letter 120 days before the expiration of the green card. I got one through mail and through my online account.
We have no memory of anything in the mail and it's not in our portal which is really surprising because everything else is in the portal.

Does she need the original hard copy of the extension letter or can I email her a copy that she can print out there.

You can only wait for extension letter or apply for boarding foil (expensive)
I was told to wait for the I-797 and the extension letter comes with it and then apply for the boarding foil.
I would apply for the boarding foil now but I think it's too soon. I was told she needs to do that at the US Embassy in Tokyo.

Based on what happened to me, I can tell you that you will have to wait at least 32 days.
There will be no record of your case until they scan and process your documents.
Trust me, I tried everything. Nothing showed up until they did.
Did your wife's green card expired already?
If it's still not expired she can travel without the receipt.
Her green card expired January 3,2024. Her mother died in Japan on February 27th and without thinking about USCIS or anything else I got her a flight out for the next morning to Japan.
I had never received anything regarding the I-751 in the past 5 years and suddenly this nightmare occurred so we applied April 2nd, I actually applied the week before but Bank of America declined the charge protecting my account from fraud and then sent in a new application package with a check.

Your wife can travel on an expired Green card along with the extension letter.
We just applied for the I-751. How long will it take to get the extension letter?
The application was delivered April 2nd and they still have not cashed my check $750.00 yet. -

I put so much effort in sending that neatly organized package. I even put the documents inside 2 different cardboard envelopes and then I put those two envelopes inside a large USPS Priority Mail box with bubbles so that it didn't get messed up or wet. All for nothing.
Have you received an update on your application yet?

There's nothing anybody can do about packet that is sitting in large facility full of boxes with mail. USCIS operation is sloooooow due to large scale. You cannot expect to get to Mars in 3 hour flight, it takes at least 9 months. Same here.

Are you telling my wife is stuck in Japan for at least 9 months or longer?

Took about 10 days for me in 2021. I'm saying 4-6 weeks based on what I see in the last 2 years on VJ.
My Overnight package was received on April 2nd 2024... 2 weeks ago yesterday but my check is still not cashed or deposited. I contacted my state Senators office and they gave me the standard answer- 4-6 weeks to get a reply from USCIS.
They were a waste of time contacting.
I expected a different response from them.

It is really unfortunate, but ultimately, it was her responsibility to file years ago...
The process is overly bureaucratic, long, expensive, and all, and we can all complain about that... but it is still on us to follow their rules.
Wishing a quick process from now on.At this point I've followed their rules and will pay whatever fee's.
But this is so ridiculous. In todays world of computers and this is all paperwork ran through by a person.
It should all be computerized and more efficient, I don't have a problem putting these workers out of a job to increase the speed of the process. - Payment, Application, all documentation uploaded and approved... BOOM DONE!!!!!

It took 4-6 weeks from the time you mailed in your application to get the receipt?

I just called USCIS...
I told them I applied for the I-751 3 weeks ago... but didn't send the payment with the 1st application so the next day I sent another full application with the payment, credit card form filled out,
but that got rejected because Bank of America declined the payment because they thought it was fraud
and so that following Monday, Last Monday I overnighted the FULL packet again with a check for $750.00 but now it's over a week later and the check has not cleared... The lady at USCIS said it can take 30 days .... this is soooo ridiculous.
My wife is soooo upset and so am I, the fact that we have no one to call, no recourse.
I would love to hire a lawyer and sue the govt for the process that is unacceptable at this.

You should be able to see the receipt on your USCIS account under documents.
They told me 4 weeks ago that they sent us a request for the I-751 3 years ago. I told them that's interesting since the website shows every bit of correspondence between us accept that piece.
Had I received that I would have applied for the I-751 immediately. But it becomes a He said/ she said/ they said/ it said... did I leave anything out.. oh yes.. Cat Said- friggin Meowwww...

Yes, can travel with expired GC + extension letter + valid passport.
For I-9 verification at work, it's best to show unrestricted social security card and state ID / DL
Once you get the receipt how long does it take to get the extension letter?

I-751 — March 2024 Filers Club
in Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion
Posted
I spent 2 hours yesterday filling in the N-400. I just want to wait for her to get back before submitting it.
I've uploaded all of our supporting docs. 2020, 2021, and 2022 taxes.
I only did 1 bank statement. I redacted all of my income and deposits and bills paid balances from the statements.... Or should I show it?
Our Mortgage Statement is just in my name but her name on the deed and it's her maiden name because that's what her passport shows.
Meanwhile her name is on our homeowners insurance policy.
I don't think I should submit the mortgage statement or the deed.
What do you think?
And I have her as a beneficiary on my life insurance policy but that's soooo many pages should I really upload the policy?
