I never got any SMS or email notifications even though they are checked... So... your mileage may vary....
At least you are seeing that it will be scheduled, which should indicate that you have been approved... At least that is what "maalaisjärki" would say...

Thank you all guys for your support!
For what it is worth, my status on the case status page still states that an interview has been scheduled....

Hi All,
Today I had an interview... Conclusion is decision can not be made or so... I've no clue why...
Arrived 30 min prior to interview, was called by IO in about 40 min.
So I have sworn to tell the truth etc. IO started with my application yes/no questions first, all went well.
Then he asked me to write Columbus Day is in October and read Washington is the Capital of the United States.
After that he said he'll ask me 10 civic questions and once I get him 6 correct answers test will be completed.
Questions were so easy but I remember only 5:
Who is the father of the USA?
How many justices in Supreme court?
When do we celebrate Independence Day?
When both POTUS and VP can't serve, who becomes the POTUS?
One part of the Government?
...........
I was pretty sure I did well. But then IO said even though you passed the test I can not approve your application because I had no chance to study your file yet, but I think I will approve your case this afternoon...
Should I explain what I felt?
At the end he said... Congratulation!
With what though? Not being approved?
He was not super friendly, but he was not sarcastic either I guess...
Called to attorney right after and he assured me that it will not take more than 120+ (60 to 90) days... So, another long wait for me...
That stinks! However, as mentioned by others, it probably just indicates that the IO did not have enough time to fully come up to speed on your file... Assuming that you have gotten this far, there should be nothing really that is going to cause a problem. I've heard of only one case where the situation was that the background check was not complete even though they had an interview, but in that case the IO was clear that the background check for the individual was still pending, so this does not sound like that was the situation.
Hopefully won't be that long though!
Congrats!

Thank you!
Well, the reason I said it because there are some IOs who faced the applicants during interview and are less familiar with the documents that have been submitted and have not studied the case in advance. There are some applicants who posted their experiences about it here that their IOs told them that they havn't studied their files yet (Oh my) and just told them they can't make any decision yet and recommend for approval even if they passed the test. I was surprised to know when I read their experiences that some of these IOs face the applicants unprepared.
The thing in my local office, they don't have outright ceremony nor give a schedule ceremony letter right after the interview and they have been like these for years. They're extremely procedural in their process, no shortcuts. And I couldn't blame their local system because they have I think 4-5 ceremony locations (per Cleveland office jurisdiction) depending on the distance of the applicant's residence. I asked the IO if I'll be doing the oath in Cleveland (once it will be finalized) and she told me "no, because your residential address is very far away and we go by nearest city distance from your address where it would be held. That's because you're interviewed in Cleveland, it doesn't mean you'll be doing it in here". Well, I may not like it having another waiting period for the oath letter, but not much I can do. I'm just glad, the interview-waiting period is over and passed it...A big relief.
I had my interview in Buffalo, and the ceremony in Rochester - not as close to home as possible, but the soonest that they could get me in... I think in my case since I was so far past their "processing cases as of" date, they wanted to get it out as soon as possible from their standpoint as well. (As of Nov 30, they are working on Jun 13, 2017). I do see that Cleveland is running at about the same time frame, so who knows...

Do you have to pay for a certified true copy of the nat. cert. ?
Not to my understanding - as Hypnos also mentioned. Essentially, you take a photocopy there with your original, and they will authenticate it (assuming that they can verify your status) and place their raised seal on it...
Would love to have seen them be able to do that right at the naturalization ceremony, or at least provide one original and one copy right off the bat. I need one to send back to my original country to record that change, and I don't expect to get it back. Further, since it needs an apostille, doing that to the original is probably not a good idea.
Beyond that, being paranoid of losing the one piece of documentation that I now have to prove my legal status in the country, I didn't want to send it out for a passport before I had something else in hand. Nicely, New York has their enhanced driver's licenses available (which prove citizenship), and the DMV only takes a look at the documents and scans them - I received my enhanced DL last Saturday, so just over 2 weeks beyond the ceremony - I think I applied on the 16th and received the 27th.

After the civics test, IO handed me the printed information that will appear in the Naturalization Certificate (according to her), to make sure the information is all correct. She then gave me the recommendation approval letter & told me to wait for a few weeks for the Oath letter schedule. I thanked the IO and she congratulated me.
Thanked God, this is almost over.
To those who are still waiting for the interview letter, I hope you guys will receive it soon. I understand the wait is very agonizing and depressing but sooner or later you will get there.
As for Deribas_Alma-Ata , I wish you "Good luck" in your upcoming interview. All the best for you.
Congrats!
Yes, I would imagine that the IO would be conversant with your application - a lot of what they will be asking you would be dependent on what you already have in your application in addition to the other data that has come in from the background check... In fact, if they didn't have any idea, I would be worried...
I will say that one of the nice things about my interview was that I was given the oath date and letter on the spot - not quite a full ceremony at the same time, but about as close as it gets. Now, I just have to make one more trip to their offices at some point and get a certified true copy of my nat. cert.
Fun times!

Do some research on each and see who is the most "immigrant friendly" and contact them. Though they each should help you accordingly, each has their own agenda which may affect their interest in helping out....
Unfortunately, you do need to stick with your own state senator as oppose to some of the friendlier types - I could have gone with either Schumer or Gillibrand had I needed that avenue. I would recommend looking at their pages regardless (schumer.senate.gov / gillibrand.senate.goc) to get an idea of what they need - it should be essentially the same as what Cornyn or Cruz need, though their pages are not as informative on the subject.
Also unfortunate is that at this moment you can't reach out to any of them until the government is re-opened.
Good luck!

Congrats Deribas_Alma-Ata !!!!!!
Is it safe to assume the congressman letter helped in any way to expedite the interview process?
Can you point me in the right direction on how to do the same thing myself? Where can I look up who my local congressman is and how to contact them? Do you have a template of the letter you send to your local congressman? Did you send them a hard copy letter via regular mail or just an email?
Thanks for your time and response
OT
If you go to your senator's web page (search for them by name on Google, for instance) they will usually have pages there that are used for requesting assistance. In the ones that I have seen, they all have a section specifically for immigration related ones, where you fill in a form with details of what you are seeking help with. You'll then have to print out something that they provide giving them partial power of attorney to ask for information on your behalf, and send them that and other supporting documentation.
Who are your senators?

Good luck, and I'll keep an eye on what's happening... Only a few of this group that appear to be still waiting, at least it appears like there are fewer waiting than the list would indicate. So glad for you Kris! You made it, Congratulations! 👍
Just in 2 weeks you'll be the Proud American Sitizen! 😊
And yeah, as Ruby_7 mentioned get us some details and don't forget a cherry on top... 😁
Sure thing - just didn't have a computer handy yesterday...
Questions - as many of them as I can remember... What does the cabinet do, How many years do we elect Senators for, How many supreme court justices, Who becomes president if netierh president or vice-president can serve. I can't recall what the last two were, but I did notice that all of them were pre-selected and printed out. I did have to read 'What month do we celebrate Columbus day' and write 'We celebrate Columbus day in October'.
Beyond that, it was a simple matter of going through the questions on the application, and she wanted to see my passports - I had one expired one and the current one with me, but since most of my trips were to europe, as an EU citizen, I don't get stamps there, so they are pretty much empty other than US entry stamps.
I was asked about trips out of the country, where all I could state directly was that I had attached a full listing, and beyond that I could only state that I had gone to Europe roughly once a year except for 2016, where I did three trips out there - all to visit my mother who lived in France.
For the entire experience, I had a 2:45 appointment, and got to the office at about 2:15. Took few minutes to go through security (winter in Buffalo - coats, scarves etc), then they had a hard time scanning a fingerprint at the reception desk. Got called up about 30 seconds of having sat down at right around 2:25, with the IO stating that she had a no-show so she was well ahead of schedule. We were out of the office with everything taken care of by 2:45-2:50, with an Oath notice in hand...
There was only a slight bit of back and forth questioning when asked about military/militia service - I have served in the Finnish Army as standard conscription, so going through those questions was nothing more than stating that yes, I have served and I have had military weapons training. The question was about a militia, which was specifically relating to a non-national army militia, so the correct answer there was no.
I was also asked about tickets and the like, and she simply asked what the traffic ticket fines were, and since they were under $500, she didn't care.
Quick, easy, done.
-
Interview done in all of 15 minutes... Did notice that my file was approximately 1-1.5 inches thick.
Recommended for approval with an oath set for Jan 11 in Rochester - just shy of a full year.
Almost done...
Good luck to those who are still here.

Hello Kris, have not hear from you for a while?
How is it going? Any updates?
Congrats on your scheduled interview! I would guess that you'll see yours inside of 30 days or so.
I'm headed up to Buffalo this afternoon for an interview tomorrow afternoon... So - we shall see what they have to say.

That's cool! Congrats! I wish you to have same day Oath! So you can become US Citizen in 2017...
Unfortunately Buffalo does not do oaths in the office except under exceptional circumstances...
Right now my biggest concern is the weather, which on an extended forecast calls for significant lake effect snow... Buffalo in December - who would have thought there would be snow...

LOL... Since I know you are from Finland and based on your mick, I would assume your full name could be Kristoffer... Let's see how close I am
In another forum someone mention that scheduling an interview means only that we paid correct fee. And Oath may take another months. I hope that person was wrong and this would not be our scenario... Keep fingers crossed for you
Nah - not that... That one sounds more German...
In any case:
I have an interview date of Dec 27 - in Buffalo. In other words, who knows what old man winter will throw at us still. Going to be fun considering that we have friends coming in from out of town for the 26th as well...
Moving along, slowly...

Glad for you Kris! I'm sorry I misspelled your name in a previous post. Good luck and hopefully this journey will over this year for you!
No worries - I get it all the time, and it has never really bothered me. Now if you were to try to guess at my full name based on that nickname, you would probably guess wrong - and some people insist on calling me by that wrong wone; that does get a bit annoying at times...
Thanks! Let's see how close to a full year this is going to be - sitting at 306 days as of today, and with the long weekend, who knows when I'll even get the letter, and then when the interview is going to happen... A lot of last minute type of rush things going on in the next few weeks where I am sitting in the old army type mentality of 'hurry up and wait' - ie. I'm waiting on others to get me information that they need back asap, yet they are taking their sweet time in getting it to me...
C'est la vie, as they say...

Well look at that... Nothing showing up on-line yet, but just got an email stating that I've now been put in to "Testing and Interview" - ie. in-line as of today...
Since this is well beyond the processing times for our local office, I would imagine that the interview will be sooner rather than later, but I guess that remains to be seen still.
Kris
Well - now the online system is stating that they have an interview scheduled...

I hope you are right Ruby_7, thank you for cheering me up! That means a lot! Good luck with your application as well!
Well - that leaves Cybermax, you and I as the last three holdouts with no movement...
I just sent in a second request for information through the 1-800 as to why the application was "Beyond normal processing time" after I received no response to the previous one...
Time will tell...
-
There seems to be a reasobable number of people on the list who show no activity - I'm left wondering if they are like me and are simply waiting on USCIS to get around to their cases, or are they no longer on the forum?
Might I propose that those who have not recently (say, in 30 days) had any activity "stand up" briefly and be recognized by the board; it would be nice to know how accurate this listing is...
Yes - I am still waiting for my case to get to the field office from the NBC...
TNX
Kris
-
Another month has gone by, and I've not heard back any more as to the status of my case - ie. it is still at NBC with no response to my inquiry as to why it is taking so long. My local field office is processing applications as of March 16, 2017 at this time - just not mine...

Just looking at your update, I think you have at least some of the dates backwards.... You have it marked that your check was cashed before you sent the paperwork in...

Apparently my case is not at my local office as of yet, but still stuck at NBC... Thus, my request for information as to the case status was forwarded from the local office to the NBC, who obviously may or may not respond to it at some time in the future - as per an IO on the telephone.
As a side note, she asked me to verify my names, and since my first name is difficult at best for most people to understand or read, I started to spell it. Received a curt reply stating that she did not ask me to spell it, but to say it. Rather odd, IMHO. In any case - I still sit in limbo waiting.
I would have thought originally that this should have been easier to go past the background checks, since I know that there is a file on me, as I was interviewed separately after the Sep 11 attacks due to where I was born. Ie. they had a pretty good idea of who I was and all that, and I'm sure that it has been looked at and filled in further later on as well. In fact, I think that the first instance of getting into the files beyond that of a regular traveler was the day I entered the US over land just hours after the beginning of the first Gulf War...
C'est la vie.

Well - I lost my initial response thanks to a browser error...
Basically, it looks like the Houston office is still working on (realistically) early December 2016, while SLC is in February - I wonder if they are not just playing the "game" and defining yours as being on time based on the slower of the two.
That said, it does look like you have done everything that would be needed prior to contacting the Ombudsman, so that is an option that is available to you. Contacting your senator obviously is also an option though neither of those processes guarantees anything, though it would allow you to feel like you have done something other than just sitting back and waiting.
In my case, I never did receive an answer to my initial query, nor to my "re-submission" of that query, but very shortly after the "ping" was sent on the initial query by the rep at the service number I did receive my notice of an interview, and was scheduled for an oath less than two weeks after my interview. So there probably is something to the idea of being at least a little bit of a squeaky wheel...
Good luck!
