  1. @Magical is there any update on your status with this? We just had our interview in Ankara and they didn't make an issue out of the USC petitioner living in Turkey. After seeing this thread we had included job application print outs and a letter summarizing our employment history and plans, but they just gave all of that back to us. If you could give an update that might help others applying in Turkey.

Can you let me know the dates of the retirement statements you guys had submitted, were they from 2016?

I did include 2016 statements, but what they asked for was a document showing my husband as the beneficiary of the account. I had printed that out back in July 2016, so they wanted a more recent date on the print out. I used it as evidence of our relationship, not as assets for support, if that makes sense. Let me know if you have any other questions!

  3. Here's our review! We also posted it in the reviews section.

I arrived at 7:10am for an 8:00am appointment. I was told to wait somewhere else until 7:50. They took me into the embassy then. I had to show my passport and they checked the list. They took about 30 of us in at the same time. They had written everywhere that they don't take electronics, watches and bags. I had brought a bag, so I had to leave it across the street at the corner store and pay the man there 5 lira to keep it for me. I went through security and they put a sticker on my passport and gave me two numbers on a perforated piece of paper. When my number came up I went to the window. There was a Turkish woman and she asked for my birth certificate (Nufus kayidi ornegi), health exam results, police report, an updated copy of the petitioner's retirement fund beneficiary as proof of relationship and two pictures. She also asked for a few pictures, but I had taken 4 photo albums and they didn't fit under the window even with me pushing and her pulling. We laughed, then she asked if I had any other proof of relationship. I gave a printout of our WhatsApp chat history. She said she would take the albums through another opening if the officer really wanted them. Then I sat down again. I waited about 2 hours, then my number came up again. The American officer swore me in and took my fingerprints. Then she asked:
    1. How long have you been married?
    2. How did you meet?
    3. Is she living in Turkey or the US?
    4. What does she do in Turkey?
    5. Where are you going in the US?
    6. Why are you going there?
    7. Do you have job applications in the US?

Then she started stamping the documents. Then she said it was done and I would get my passport back in 5 days. I asked again to clarify if I was approved, and she said yes.

Overall everything was smooth and way easier than I was expecting. The actual interview took about 2 minutes.

We had gotten a checklist for W2s for 2016, and I had our 2016 transcripts with me, but they never asked for them. The request for the updated copy of my wife's retirement account information was surprising, but thankfully I had it with me. The lady said everything should be updated if it's older than 6 months, so just as a reminder to others, take updated information!

Thanks, @JBMG! My husband's visa was just approved! I'll write a detailed description later. It still hasn't sunk in! A huge THANK YOU to all of our VJ friends. We quite literally couldn't have done this without you!

We were planning on packing his monitor in the checked luggage and keep his laptop as a personal carry-on item.. It's just way to expensive to ship his computer, so we're thinking on leaving the computer/tower behind and just bringing the monitor. We still don't know for sure. We're worried to cause issues, but I've read from others that it's ok.... Ugh, I don't know to be honest.

You probably already took this into consideration, but just as a reminder, as far as I know there is a ban on electronic items in hand luggage between certain cities and the US. I would just double check your itinerary and with your airline. It would be horrible to have to try to throw your laptop into a carefully packed bag last minute!

CONFIRMED.. 30 mins on hold. But well worth it. :)

Yes, I hope it's a new trend seeing more cases getting completed under 9 weeks.. Unfortunately some more than 9 weeks.. I hope you get yours very soon!!

Thank you for your kind words.. I'm very VERY VERY EXCITED!!!!!!!!  Now just waiting for the interview date so we can finally start planning our move to the US!! :)

Congratulations! Yes, it is surreal, isn't it? Thanks for all of your work on the spreadsheet and best of luck for an interview soon.

I'm clueless when it comes to the financial aspect of filing. My wife is taking care of this as I'm the alien (never liked this word lol ). Can u post your checklist letter like mine. Maybe then the situation can be understood better. .

Our checklist letter was the exact same as yours. They want us to submit the US sponsor's W2 forms for 2016. I just realized that I claimed about 100 dollars in income on my taxes from a small job I did for a US company, so maybe that's why... The company never sent me a W2, so I've requested that from them. If they don't send one I guess my spouse will just take the 2016 transcripts to the interview and a signed affidavit explaining why I don't have W2s? Does that sound right? Anyone? I guess if I don't have a W2 I didn't have to claim that income, but I was just trying to be honest

I just got a checklist email that I need to bring additional document to the interview.

Will we need to refill the i864 form or just need to the additional w2 form?

Regarding Your Form I-864 Affidavit of Support and Required Financial Evidence

    ===================================================================== ======

These instructions refer only to the Form I-864 completed by the financial sponsor named above.

The National Visa Center (NVC) reviewed your Form I-864 Affidavit of Support. This form had one or more sections with missing or incorrect information; was missing required supporting documents; or both. Please review the instructions below. You will need to correct your Form I-864 and collect missing documents as requested.

Do not send the corrected form and documents to NVC. Instead, give all requested documents to the visa applicant, who should present them to the consular officer during the visa interview. Don't forget to sign your Form I-864 by hand. Your signature cannot be typed or electronic. The applicant may bring a photocopy of the signed form to the interview.

Failure to submit the requested documents at the time of the visa interview can delay this case. If you need to complete a new Form I-864, you can access the form and instructions online at uscis.gov/i-864. Additional information can be found at nvc.state.gov/aos (English) or nvc.state.gov/aos/espanol (Spanish).

You do not need to contact NVC at this time. After we schedule the immigrant visa interview, we will send the applicant an appointment letter.

    ===================================================================== ======
Please make the below corrections to your Form I-864 or gather the requested financial evidence:

[x] You must submit the following financial evidence:
[x] A copy of every W-2 form that relates to your______________2016_____________________ tax returns.

We got the same email. We also have the same scan date and almost same CC date 😀 I don't have W2s since I worked outside the US. I sent the 2016 tax forms, but not the transcripts since they weren't ready yet. I'm wondering if the transcripts will be enough? Let me know if you find anything, and I'll let you know, too.

I suggest you follow up with them. Submission of DS 260 is crucial. Apr 5 would not be considered your scan date if they still say that your DS 260 hasn't been submitted yet!

Thanks for your reply! It's absolutely crucial since it's the actual application! I called again and was told the same thing - they can't see if it's been submitted or not until it's reviewed...I told her I have the confirmation number and barcoded application confirmation, and she said that is fine.

  11. Hello everyone,

I submitted the DS260 online on March 19th and have the printed out, barcoded confirmation, and our scan date is April 5th. When I called to get the scan date, they said they had received our package on April 5th, but the guy reminded me to submit the DS 260... I said we already had and asked if he couldn't see it, and he said he couldn't see it even if I had submitted it, he just wanted to remind me to submit it? It seems like he should have been able to see that I had submitted it. Do you think I should follow up with this, or have other people been told the same? Thanks everyone, and best wishes to all of us waiting!
