  1. Congratulations!!!

I am in the same situation as you - US citizen living in Slovakia since 2022, got married and also managed to adopt a child. All of us would like to move to USA one day.

Question 1: Can I just move without having a job offer from US-based company?

    If yes:

Question 2: Can I use my Slovakian income (I work here) on I-864? If yes, for how many years back and how much I must proof? If not, I assume I will have to find a sponsor.

    Thank you in advance.

    Anna

  2. Hi Boiler and thank you for your response. The child is yet to be adopted (very soon) - can I apply for the child's citizenship immediately, or do I have to wait for 2 years before doing so? In regards to the expat taxes - will I need a joint sponsor even if my foreign income suffices, or, the joint sponsor will be needed regardless because foreign income is not acceptable for the filing process? What is "short notice job relocation"?

  3. Hello everyone. Not sure where to start - it seems such a complicated scenario and I appreciate everyone's response in advance.

I am a US citizen, currently living in Europe (since 2022). While living here, I married the love of my life. We also managed to start the adoption process of a gypsy child. All 3 of us would like to live in the US soon, mostly, because our adopted child is of gypsy origin and we are terrified of the racism/segregation that is strongly present in our country against these children. We want to give our child a brighter future.  Where to even start? Can I apply for a husband/adopted child if I filed expat taxes for last year? Can I even file without a US domicile (all I have left in the US is a bank account)? Or, will I  have to move back to the US by myself, and establish a domicile first? Can I even use my expat taxes at all for filing? Where and how to start this process? Thanks, Anna.

    Hi all,

my parents are green card holders (IR5), who currently stay outside of US for less then a year. We have tickets bought to US for the end of April, this is when they will return to US earlier then 1 year of being outside of US. Now, with corona virus, it very well may be they will miss their flight because: 1) there is ban in US on entering people from the country they are now; 2) this country also banned international travels for the same reason; 3) common sense as in 1 month the situation with virus won't change too much and for them, 60+, travel is big risk.

So, they are facing the situation of violating regulation - if they need to postpone their flight for more then 2 weeks they be "overdue" in their return to US, exceed their stay for more then a year. It is very sad and unfortunate, we did a lot to get to this point, ie when they can come to US, but the situation is force majore.

Called to USCS twice - first time I was said this is up to Customs and Border Protection personal; second time -  USCIS advised to file I131A form, but it is not quite their case/eligibility, and it is 575 USD per person. Called CBP, they said it it not their business, talk to USCIS, Consulate referred to CBP. Circle closed.

The bottom line - I do not see clearly what we need to do to keep GC status, and safely return to US in future once corona virus situation improves (1 month from now? 2? 6? who knows). Of course, giving up GC is not an option, but there must be something in place for situation like this without "punishing" the GC holders.

Your opinions, advise or experience is highly appreciated!

    Many thanks and stay safe!

I just would like to encourage you that there are many people in the same situation like your parents - including my husband (green card holder). We had to temporarily leave US for Hungary on May 21st 2019, due to serious family and health situations. He is to come back to the US soil before May the 20th 2020 and we are worried that he will not be able to find a flight there. It took us some time to assess the situation (first stage of trauma: shock and denial) and we didn't take advantage of flights while they were still available. So all we can do is pray and trust God that He will open the doors for my husband and people like him, whether before the deadline or reasonably shortly after. But again - what is a definition of "reasonably shortly" after? 1 month, 2 months, 3 months... I want to hope that immigration officers at the airport will have more understanding for cases like ours, but still - it's just hope, we would prefer something more solid, such as some kind of "status extension" option. Well, I just wanted to encourage you and I truly believe, somehow it will all work out:)

  5. Naturalization Certificates must be signed with the signature that matches the signature on the photo attached. For example - my photo was still signed with my old name Anna Markova, so I signed the NC with my old name-Anna Markova, even though the new printed name on the NC was Anna Boros. I just confirmed this info yesterday at my naturalization ceremony. If you signed the photo with your new name, that sign the NC with your new name also.

Dont know what to do. My stepdaughter and wife are extremely depressed and sit in bed crying and dont want to leave the house. I lost my job like 2 weeks before they flew here and I asked/begged her to wait a few months but she absolutely refused, threatened to dump me and forced me to bring them when I wasnt ready financially. I was owed $5,000 from my prior job and my company dissolved so I never received that money which I desperately needed. I have spent over $2k on un planned dental work just for my step daughter alone, and because of all these expenses we moved in with my parents who have a really large house. Yet they despise living here and despise me- even though it's temporary and I've already spent Thousands on immigration fees and both their Green cards.  One wants to return immediately to Russia and forget I exist and the stepdaughter HATES Russia and refuses to return and insists she will miss a year of school and refuses to return to school if I buy them flights back home. I dont know what to do. I take them to the beach frequently, I signed them both up for ESL classes with other foreigners, we do fun things together and as soon as they hear of someone visiting L.A or Miami they freak out and call me dirt poor and a liar because I cant drop everything and drive cross country for a week on a spending spree. They watch garbage tv like Kardashians and assume everyone here is rich and drives a Mercedes and only want to live in a big city and dont care about the high crime in public schools and the insane cost of private schools. Even though my stepdaughter is currently attending the #2 public school in the state and its so close to my parents she can walk there every morning. Help..any advice is greatly appreciated. I cant eat or sleep and I dont think its possible to make them happy or satisfy them. They wont be calm and wait on green cards and work permit or give me more time to save up for apartment close to a good school. I have anxiety issues and this honestly makes me want to take a bottle of Ambien

Hi. I just read your post and I just would like to encourage you with the following:

1/ Cultural shock is normal. It will take time for them to adjust, you just have to give them time and love them through it.

2/ Loving them through it does not mean that  you will allow your wife to disrespect you. Maybe you feel insecure, or " not enough of a man" because of your financial situation, but that is a lie. Your worth doesn't come from what you have or don't have. Your life is a miracle and you are deeply loved by God  You need to establish the power dynamics and borders in your relationship, it is called "tough love".Did you even tell her simple thing such as "I don't' want you to speak to me like this"?

3/ Many problems in our lives have deep spiritual roots, and the only way that we can get rid of them are by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior and heal through His love. SIgn up for a local "12 step group" (e.g.https://www.christian12step.org/)  where they can help you and your family with hurts (anxiety, depression), hangups and bad habits. No pill in the world will help you resolve those deep hurts that at the end of the day we all carry in our hearts and souls. Your wife desires to be a part of community, belong...maybe she is watching Kardashians because  it temporarily fills in that void, but then she feels empty again. Get plugged in a  local church and start making healthy relationship in the community there and God will heal you through them, maybe you will even meet someone who will offer you good employment there.

Me and my husband are praying for your family and wish you all the best. God bless you.

My case PD = Jan 20th, 2016 & the case is completed w/o checklist as well.

I am wondering how the interview set up works for our situation (case completed before PD becomes current; current PD is Oct 22, 2015).

Will they notify us the interview appointment one month before the PD becomes current & of course the actual interview date will be after the PD becomes current (after Jan 20th, 2016 for my case & after April 4th, 2016 for your case). This would be the best scenario for us.

Or they will start to set up the interview appointment ONLY after the PD becomes current.

If anyone had ever been thru. this experience,  please advise...TIA!

    Hi;

Yes, they will notify you about 4-5 weeks prior to the PD becoming current - so you will have time to schedule your medical. The actual interview date will be after the PD becomes current.

Just a heads up, the Visa Bulletin will again only move  3 weeks forward. Terrible, on the beginning of the year we expected better movement...

Looks like F2A is moving to a longer processing time as it was in the near past.

Yes Michael, you are right, very frustrating. I was hoping my husband's interview would by by Jan, but looking at the movement, it might move even to May! (PD April 4). Let's hope for the better next month's movement.

Hello Anna! When do you think your husband will be called for interview. Or there are still some procedures after this before setting the interview date.

    Hi;

His PD is April 4th, so we hope for March/April 2017 interview. If the Visa Bulletin moves 1 month at a time, I think that is a realistic expectation. Trust me, each month is a struggle though. After you are approved at NVC, you are just waiting for your interview letter, that will arrive approx. 1 month before the interview, so you will have time to schedule your medical. So besides the medical, there is nothing else that you have to do.

Hi, so your case is completed @ nvc?

Did you receive an email or a snail-mail or both forms of notification regarding the case complete?

    TIA!

Yes, our case is now completed at NVC. I was surprised - but only my husband in Hungary received an official e-mail. E-mail communication before was always e-mailed to my e-mail address.

Big jump for chartB! Anybody who has an april pd here, did u guys get ur welcome letter right away when it moved to april last time?.

Hi and congrats! It's a great feeling to be able to proceed forward in the filing process. You will get WL after October 1st as currently, from the NVC point of view, we are still on the September Bulletin. If I were you, I would start intensively preparing the correct required paperwork, so once you are able to file it, you will be better prepared. My paperwork was just approved without RFD (requets for evidence), so feel free to ask any questions.

    Hi Anna,

you should join a FB group and you know the movement always 2 weeks in advance. People got the Invitation Letters (IL) already, so the Visa Bulletin is clear.

Join those groups and watch the movements every months from 28th-31st.

I did not get No2 yet, but almost no one did for October, they are working on September. It seems that VB will be slowing down due to 20% more applications in 2016... Outlook is not good.

    Good luck to everyone!

That's certainly bad news but thank you, just hang in there!
