Hi there.. yes, I am waiting for Atlanta. I have no advice, sadly. I filed in June/July 2020 and it already was a journey with USCIS biometrics. I had to involve my congressman. I am waiting in line for interview now since April 7. When I was getting the bio done at the ASC, the lady at the intake told me to not forget to get a stamp, because it will likely take up to 2 years for an interview slot.
your hope is that you are nearly there!
can you ask your congressman to inquire? They are extremely helpful.

Thanks. Yes I can ask a Representative here in Augusta. But I don't believe this system will react on them. I hope you get your interview soon and we are interested if you do. Can you give us a message?

    Jozias and Florence.

  2. I feel utterly bad! My 18 months extension ends in June. So this week I could finally start to make an appointment to have my card extended for longer. I don't know, a year? They will call me now within 14 days. I have phone on a cord now. Wouldn't want to miss this. W t h does it last so long for me? July 2020 was said to be my interview. I've never been so nocked out in this whole project since October 2016. 😩

Hello! Just wanted to share our timeline. Our petition was received in December 17th and on March 23rd our biometrics were waived.  We didn’t hear anything else until we saw on our USPS mail preview that something was in the mail from USCIS; our hearts sank but we hopped online and it said our card had been sent out! We never got a text or email like we had previously and as of today the card is in our possession! Completely surprised as we weren’t expecting anything for probably another year. Best of luck to everyone!!

Congratulations! I can imagine how you feel.

It's hard waiting for such a long time. We had bio Dec 9 2019 and are waiting since. June 14 my last card update will expire. So tomorrow I'm gonna call to get scheduled for Infopas and see that I get an extension stamp. Again, Congratulations with your greencard, worth a party!

    Regards,

    Jozias

Does for me. Many filled it out already. Thank you so much!

I added a column that is also helpful. The duration from ready for interview to the actual interview.

Maybe you can add one more for the whole process duration.

  5. Did you check the timelines for Potomac? I don't know if it works from here and to put a link here as it showed after I made the filter there. Potomac for CR1 NOA1 October 2017 and latest NOA2's Page 69

We were in this situation too. We were on hangout almost every day. She left me in november 2016 from The Netherlands after we married in October. I could go to the US

December 14. After my final interview November 2018. We knew to be patient and motivated by saying stay in the day, take it one day at a time. And when we clicked off, we always said: One day closer to be together again. We'll get there!

  6. Interview yesterday November 11, 2017 at Amsterdam General Consulate. Approved!!!

Went so smooth. Only interested in my originals. They didn't look at any more. The NVC packet was on their desk! Except for 27 pictures of time together after I-130 till recently, they did ask for those. Interview, 10 minutes twice, two different officers... Almost an anticlimax. Visa packet next week, by courier!  We celebrated on Hangouts! Flo flew back November 9. So happy we got through this hoop! Getting there!

Wish you all interviews like mine!

  7. An update. We received NVC questions June 6 2017. Took us some time to gather all that papers again. First scan date is July 30 2017. We received a checklist Sept. 17. My police report was like 10 months old. I blame myself now for taking the risk. We will ask for a new report and will have to wait longer. We're on holidays now in France. We stay in the day and have confidence we'll get there.

  8. Hi, thanks for your attention!

We received an NVC checklist today after first scandate July 30, 2017. My wife sponsors me for CR1.

Now they want my Police certificate we already provided in the package. It's best to do what they ask and get an other one, so we will send that in again. However... They ask to add a copy of her civil documents again, saying "e.g. your birth certificate" and also a signed copy of the  I-864.

Civil documents... would be all civil documents, right? So: bc, mc, divorce decree? Also a copy of her passport?

My wife now says: But they have all those already, this does not make sense. Can you please help, so she can accept and decide what to send?

    Thanks for help.

Regardless of being allowed or not. ALWAYS get international versions when available. The ones in the Netherlands are the same cost as the Dutch ones. And you never know if you need them down the line (uittrekselgeboorteregister is needed later on in the US and is available in international format). It saves you a lot of time and money further down the line.

Yes, good tip, thanks. The international versions of civil papers save effort and money.

No, the NVC will not accept documents in Dutch. It has to be in either English or International (Dutch/English)

You will have to get everything translated or it will delay your visa process. As the website clearly states, if it's not in English or if it's in original language of the country you are from, it has to be accompanied by a translation.

All documents not written in English, or in the official language of the country in which you are applying for a visa, must be accompanied by certified translations

Hi Dutchster, you quote the NVC step 5 here about translations. I read there, simplified for my situation: All documents not written in English, or Dutch, need to be accompanied by certified translations. Otherwise they would state: All documents not written in English and not international with English, have to be translated in English. I don't know how NVC solves the problem how to check them, but the statement says so. It doesn't say English or international. Who else have opinions, or preferable experience, about applying documents in official language of country your interview embassy is in?

Maybe this policy is only shortly effective and nobody dares using  it. Anybody else who knows more about the subject?

Well, as you can see I am from the Netherlands too. I went through the Consulate and USCIS already. Everything I had to show had to be either international version or accompanied with translations on a different page.
In my case, all my documents like birth certificate and VOG could be issued internationally. It stated clearly in my Consulate check list that the documents had to be international or translated.

Thanks again for more information, Dutchster. You delivered all in English so of course you had no problem. This is the statement I find at top of the Amsterdam.pdf checklist. I clipped this as is.

    Quote

Please use the list below to determine the items that every applicant must bring to the immigrant visa interview:

Reminder: All documents that are not in English or Dutch must be accompanied by a certified translation into English by a
    certified/sworn translator.

    End Quote

Clear enough there. Our question still is, will NVC accept the Dutch language too? I guess they will because the statement here would make no sense if they would not accept this either. Any experience being processed at Amsterdam embassy or whatever foreign embassy and filing with their foreign language documents. Does it slow down the process at NVC? Did you get NVC checklist for that?

It has to be either international or accompanied by certified translations done by a translation agency for example.

Thanks for your response. Can you refer to USCIS or NVC or other official sources to convince me. I had an opinion also, but referred to the NVC chapter 5 by a quote. There are many opinions here on VJ, but they don't support  to what to do. But thanks anyway.

  13. Hi all,

Opened a new topic because all others were so old.

Still one important question. Had one paper coming in late. My military records. But it is in in Dutch only.

When I go to Step 5 "Collect supporting documents" I find there

    Quote:

All documents not written in English, or in the official language of the country in which you are applying for a visa, must be accompanied by certified translations.

    End Quote.

I will have my interview in the Amsterdam US Embassy. Is there no doubt Dutch is the official language of the country in which you are applying for a visa?

My wife's reasoning is I apply in the US for a visa to use in the US. So every document would have to be written in English.

I say no, I apply in The Netherlands for a US visa. So any Dutch paper will work too. I can even mix them up with English.

Will NVC also accept a Dutch document as they stated in Step 5?

Anybody to tell us what is right, please?

Thanks by Florence & Jos. (L)

  14. Hey @JOL,

I thought you would get the answer Damara gave us in this thread.

    Find it all here:

    http://static1.1.sqspcdn.com/static/f/701259/11488826/1301524322607/Aff+of+Support+re+Earned+Benefits.pdf?token=Pm1vQqW0JqhfJnQL8ixawma41xw%3D

on page 13. SSR counts for threshold NVC.

Very helpfull, happy we found this. We would have done like it would count, but it's much better to be sure.

Okay Damara, thanks for the PDF. And I found it on page thirteen... though I found the file was changed recently by Company INS. I found the original from USCIS and checked the SS/SSI statement there and those were exactly the same in both documents. So yes, thank you for helping me out on this. You are a guardian angel. We need those on our path to my green card. I hope @JOL reads this also. Go for it! You waited even more than we did (199 days) for NOA2.

Social security counts as long as its SS benefits (retirement) and not SSI. (supplemental security income)

    Hi Damara,

Thanks for your response on my question!

I believe you... Though, really, and excuse me I say so...  We cannot depend on an opinion... we can easily find many here. Can you provide a trusted, authorised source where I can find this?

  17. Hey @Jol!

Thanks for supporting my question. You put in more information that applies all to my wife sponsoring for me. Thanks again!  I depend very much of her knowledge about The IRS Tax system. She also says SSI is not taxable income. I'm not sure of that yet. As I am Pretty stubborn... 1. Maybe it is not taxable in her situation. And others with higher income have to include it with their Tax Returns... 2. We are not like filing for IRS, so NVC might count it to the threshold anyway, weather it shows on Tax Transcripts or not. This is much my opinion. Why would they ask for a Social Security Earning Statement as they do and not count it? 3. It makes no sense that a reliable income like Social Security Elderly wouldn't count compared to any job earnings, while that job might end any day after presenting it as income... these days.  4. I read on many occasions Social Security Elderly would be means-tested income. Uscis refuses means-tested income to meet threshold. But I got from sources on the internet, like Forbes.com Social Security Elderly is earnings-tested income, not means-tested. So also this ends positive if... USCIS/HS doesn't count Social Security Elderly to means-tested.

So actually I have no clear answer yet, just more questions! We discussed this and when we have all our documents ready we will send them in. We will do so trusting our reasoning from option 2 mentioned above. We have to make a decision because we also have to write a letter based on that, a letter in which we exempt from  sending in Tax Transcripts/Tax Returns over last 3 years. This because my wife has no due to file with her income over these years. We do that under Other Supporting Documents.

  18. Hi all!

The I-864 instructions statement under "Special Requirements" doesn't mention Social Security explicit...

I-864 Under Special Requirements: "Current Individual Annual Income. Enter your current, individual, earned or retirement, annual
income that you are using to meet the requirements of this affidavit and indicate the total in the space provided"

We would add a pension together with her Social Security Earnings. Her pension alone wouldn't meet 125% of poverty level for 2 persons household. 125%= $20.300.
When we add them together she does meet that limit to be the only sponsor.

We are confused because we find many saying the income required here would be from taxable income.
My sponsor's (Flo, my wife.) taxable income is just her pension.

Anybody who knows or got an NVC checklist from this item? Please, help!
