  1. I'm in a grad program at a Canadian University (though I'm a US citizen) and my future husband, assuming we marry on a K1 visa, wouldn't really be able to cross the border until he has a green card. If he lives just over the border in VT, I we see other weekly, but not daily, would this look suspiciously unmarital in the eyes of the authorities? Or can I be said to technically reside with him in VT even though I am gone more days than there?

    Thanks.

    S

When you say technically do you have mail going to the same address as his in VT?

If you haven't had interview yet, you will need to show you live together, at minimum establish joint accounts with bills going to same address ( cell phone, Auto insurance registration, utilities ect..)

  2. See attached! I have broken down the costs for filing AOS, as well as Estimated additional costs, B)

We filed ourselves and it cost us less than 1000.00 USD

We did not apply for AP, and probably realise now that we wasted our money on the EAD since our interview is on day 96 and EAD usually comes within 90 days

I have also included an example of cover sheets and cover letter, this is how we sent everything in.

    I hope the attached helps

shelled out $180 for EAD, only to have AOS move so quickly that the EAD was never issued. So that was a waste of money, but you never know if your AOS process will take two months or two years. Sigh.

No kidding what a rip, Govt. should reimburse those who pay for EAD and don't need or use it.

  3. thanks for the info...I am also thinking if I will apply for EAD

EAD Takes aprox 90 days

I will be upset if we get GC before EAD, wasting Money donating it to US Govt.

  4. Yes, I'm back again to the circulation. Thanks for the information. Now I have to pay $200 for it :crying:

If I were you I would schedule an infopass Appt. to see if there is another option,

Write down your receipt number, copy the e-mail,

hopefully you wont have to pay $200.00 to to get them to reissue a form already processed.

I am upset that I learned we may get GC approval before EAD we paid 175.+ for EAD I-765 and wont even need it as our interview is on the 96 th day after filing. EAD probably wont arrive until 90 days

    Good Luck

  5. Try to make sure there are no Gaps in your last 5 years addresses,

If you had a street adress in USA put it down and Estimate the amount of time spent, then list your permanant address ( Canada), the importance is that there is no gap in where you stayed the past 5 years, depending on how long you were here on different Visa's

I would single most recent USA residenace(address where you last or currently reside) and then list Canada for the remaining time

  6. Hello everyone! A bit about us My wife is from Miyazaki, Japan I am an Autralian American ,

I met my Beautiful wife in Miyazaki, Japan 12 years ago,

    http://www.kanko-miyazaki.jp/Language/engl...sight/index.htm

After 3 years in Japan I moved to USA, we had kept in touch on & off for 10 years she came to CA to study at UCLA where we reunited, started dating.( I can't blame her I am a handsome bloke. see picture below B) )We married in 2004, & have a beuatiful daughter together. We currently reside in Hermosa Beach , CA www.hermosabch.org

We filed for her AOS ourselves in June and if it wasn't for forums like this we would not be just 6 short weeks away from AOS interview.

These forums are so helpful, Sharing experiences & offering advice. We hope to return the favor, share our expereince and knowledge. And maybe help people who are going through this process feel more relaxed and at ease.

  7. The time varies depending on the circumstances of your case,

look at my signature below you can see detailed timeline

You should receive your inetrview notice in 2-3 weeks

It takes about 90-120 days (from filing date if no RFE's) for interview on typical AOS case.

we received or AOS interview Notice 20 days after our biometrics was completed.

Good luck and try not to stress over it too much,

After numerous hours spent on forums, checking useless USCIS Online status Updates, Countless hours of lost sleep due to anxiety, and eagerly staring down your postman , you could end up like the attached picture.

    Good Luck

  8. I filed my Wife's EAD with her AOS application, I am learning that EAD takes Aprox. 90 days from filing date to be approved, And lately for most cases that are not complicated Interviews are happening within 90-120 days, so my point is if you have your interview for AOS and get approval for GC You won't need EAD.

That being said, We filed EAD as insurance so we could use the EAD to get SSN & Drivers liscense fo rmy Wife, in case the AOS process took too long she could at least have DL, and even work if she needed.

File EAD with AOS but don't be surprised if you do not receive EAD before your AOS interview .

You may be spending the $$ on EAD it will have been wasted if GC approval comes prior to EAD, even if EAD comes on day 90 and AOS interview ( as in our case) on day 96 IF approved for GC we will have wasted that money on EAD.

Also if you are lucky enough to get your EAD before AOS inteview upon approval they will take your EAD,

since you wont need it .

StillWe do not regret filing it as one never knows what can happen with USCIS, EAD will allow you to get personal business taken care of help establisbh your new life here while waiting for AOS & GC

  9. The USCIS Case status/ Online Update is never accurate and almost useless,

We have already received our interview notice (8/4) and our last Update was July 3.

It took 10 days after the receipt of our NOA's for our cases to even show up or be recognized by the system

So one can only immagine that the Anxiety of waiting is only increased by the lack of sufficiency of the USCIS Case status page.

My advise is to wait until your receive NOA in mail, You should receive an ASC ( Biometrics) notice within 2 -4 weeks from receipt of your initial NOA's, Don't stress too much, visit this forum and

others like it ( immigrationportal.com) where other have shared your anguish and will releive you with their accounts of their experience.

The Online status is about as functional as the Walk button on a cross walk, people keep pushing but nothing happens, it serves to distract them from the Anxiety of waiting.

Give it another few weeks after numerous attemts to see the status or LUD of your case, countless sleepless nights , anxious eager stares at your postman, and you will start to look like the attached picture. :clock:

  10. my fiance is now in the usa on a k1 visa i know we have 90 days to marry. he applied last week for his social security card and we are now waiting this. i would like to know what we need to do next. seems there are so many steps and he has been advised to seek legal help but we did this in the beginning and it was so useless they did nothing. can anyone please advise us of the next steps and forms required

    Start Here www.USCIS.gov

    http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/i-485.htm

    You will need to file

    I-130 ( I-864) together with your spouse filing I-485, I-765

You can file yourself so long as you are organised and read instructions on all forms prior to filing. If your case is typical Fiane filing AOS then you can save $ by filing yourself.

First step is to Get married, try to bring friends or family if it is a civil wedding it helps to have witnesses,

Then while awaiting your applications approval you start establish your life together, (joint lease, bank accounts ect.. )you will need to have that in order to Show Bona Fida marriage at your AOS interview.

Be sure to follow the guidance of the USCIS web page before sending your applications

    http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/fieldoffices...nal/index.htm#H

See attached, this is a list of what I put together for my wife's AOS we have received our interview letter and will have our interview within 96 days of filing, we had NO RFE's and so far everything is going smoothly

In the attachment is also an example of a cover letter to send with your application and a break down of what to file and Estimated cost.

    Good Luck

  11. Please advise me - I'm so worried. :( I got an RFE recently for a local police certificate as my fingerprints were illegible. I sent it back and just got an email saying they are sending another RFE.

Is this really bad? Is it normal? What else could they want?

I'm really worried. I am starting work next week - a great job - this is so depressing. :crying:

I am sorry that ASC couldn't get your Finger prints right, usually a supervisor checks and verifies the prints before sending them through, before you leave bimetrics.

This is no fault of yours it seems like the ASC office should have noticed the bad prints before letting you leave, No telling what the RFE is until you receive it.

When you receive post here and let us know.
