Lawyer not required. I spoke with an attorney AFTER I filed because of the time it is taking for my case to complete and he said that I have a straight-forward case its just taking a long time.
And for another data point, even with an Attorney, they have no special influencing skills to make the process move faster. A friend of mine had their corporate attorney process the visa paperwork for his wife (he is American, she is Japanese) and it still took close to 2 years. The USCIS and NVC ignored all requests from the Corporate attorney but replied promptly to the petitioner (husband).

My wife's interview at the US Embassy in Tokyo was on Monday March 13th. She now has the Visa paperwork for her entry to the US.  Just 3 days.  
 
Now we are finally back in control of our lives.....

I guess whats not fair is that people are still getting through this process in just a few weeks.    Met some of my Japanese friends this weekend and one of them was saying that 3 of her friends got married in Japan and got their Visa to come to the US after just a few weeks.  
 
Hearing that makes me angry and dumbfounded and curious about where the loophole in the process is.  If I applied from Japan - would I have gotten everything done faster?   All these thoughts running through my head because no-one can give me the 500 days that we lost back to us.

So finally good news -  my wife "passed" the interview at the US Embassy in Tokyo yesterday - so next hurdle is waiting for the passport with her visa.
 
Then FINALLY we can make flight arrangements.

So I just logged in and saw my 3rd N/A!!!  My husband called to confirm and the rep said that they had just started scheduling April interviews today. Hopefully I get an April date as well!

Hello everyone! I have a question about getting a March or April interview:

So I understand that the deadline for the 2016 filing of tax returns is on April 18, 2017 (I stand corrected, I'll confirm with my USC husband). Does that mean that if your interview date falls anytime before that, you won't have to bring your spouse's and/or sponsor's tax documents? Or will they already be asking for that even before the deadline?

Just got off the phone with NVC... Wait time was 38 minuets. Rep was super nice. He told me that he will put our case in supervisor review and said hopefully it will get completed faster this 'go-around'.

Thanks all for the support and encouragement - I'm moving into the Case Complete to Interview - March 2017 forum.   I'll check from time to time but won't be monitoring this daily.

IS this a new thing?   I don't post any pictures of my children or my wife on social media  - but- that doesn't make her any less my wife or them any less my children....

Stay strong and move forward - did they ask for more evidence of a bona fide marriage?

It's not like there was a sudden huge influx of us citizens going out there and getting married that caused this massive backlog... 

Today February 10th is my wife and daughters interview date. They were approved.  What a roller coaster of a journey.
