  1. hmmm well my mother in law had her second son 3 yrs ago and she was 42,

and there was a lady in romania who had a baby 2 yrs ago and she was 78

so i dunno, once you are not physically able to put down the walker and bend over to pick up the baby? :D

    78???

  2. I'm 56 and my son is 11 weeks old. When I was 40, if someone has asked me if that was too old to become a parent I probably would have said yes that it's too old. Now I'd say you just need to be able to take care of your child. I am fortunate to have excellent health and I'll probably live to 80+ (or even 90+) so I guess I'm OK on that.

I looked in my son's eyes this morning before I left for work. He smiled and laughed as we talked "baby talk" for a while. For that moment that was the only thing in the world that mattered ...

  3. I have entered the US on a K1 visa

i just want to make sure i have everything right! this may sould like a silly question but

is it ok to stay in the US after the 90 days as long as I have gotten married and have filed for AOS?

You have to get married within 90 days. You can file for AOS anytime. You don't have to file within the 90 days, but don't wait forever because you don't have legal status and you won't get a Green Card until your AOS is approved.

Whatever you do, DO NOT leave the country until you have your Green Card!

  4. COLUMBUS, Miss -- Sen. Barack Obama delivered an animated rebuke today of suggestions from the Clintons in recent days that he could run as her vice president.

"Now first of all with all due respect, with all due respect," he said here during a town hall meeting. "I won twice as many states as Sen. Clinton. I won more of the popular vote than Sen. Clinton. I have more delegates than Sen. Clinton. So I don't' know how someone in second place can offer the vice presidency to someone in first place. If I was in second place I could understand but I am in first place right now.

He referenced comments from Bill Clinton in 1992 that his "most important criteria" for vice president was that person must be ready to be commander in chief.

"They have been spending the last two or three weeks" arguing that he is not ready to be commander in chief, Obama said.

"I don't understand. If I am not ready, why do you think I would be such a great vice president?" Obama asked the crowd, which gave him a standing ovation during his defense. "I don't understand."

"You can't say he is not ready on day one, then you want him to be your vice president," Obama continued. "I just want everybody to absolutely clear: I am not running for vice president. I am running to be president of the United States of America."

    :lol::thumbs:

Obama was responding to comments from Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson on a conference call earlier today, in which he suggested that Obama could pass the "threshold" and become commander in chief material this summer. "Senator Clinton will not choose any candidate who has not at the time of choosing passed the national security threshold. But we have a long way to go until Denver, and it's not something she's prepared to rule out at this point," he said.

Well, I guess we won't be seeing a Clinton-Obama ticket OR a Obama-Clinton ticket.

  5. It's good that they're playing dirty, it's practice for the final. Whoever ends up playing.

Richardson would be a mistake, for either potential nominee.

I agree. His ties are too close to the Clinton Adminstration which would be a turn off to Republicans and Independents.

+ the whole Los Alamos thing + numerous intemperate remarks regarding foreign countries like Pakistan...

What is "the whole Los Alamos thing" you are referring to?

  6. She didn't just 'resign' for no reason, she was pushed. My comment stands, I wonder if she was pushed because Obama decided that her conduct in losing her cool in an on the record situation (all be it for a book launch rather than specifically connected to the nomination campaign) or because of that speficic comment? My hunch is the former.

He said he'd fire anyone who resorted to personal attacks, and that's what she did. Not the most professional thing to do. She's already been used by opponents as an example of Obama's uberliberalness, so it was probably convenient to let her go anyway.

Well then he's going to be firing a lot of people, because he will have to go negative to beat Hillary and it's going to get nasty.

  7. Contrary to Jasman's post, you do not need any USCIS documents EAD or GC documents to apply for a SSN in your married name. I applied in my married name after I was married and before I filed for AOS and it was not a problem. You just need to do it within 76 days of your arrival because they won't issue a SSN if you're within two weeks of your I-94 expiring. Now, having said all that, there are just as many people who have had problems doing this (because the SSA workers don't know their own policy) as there are who have not. You'll find further information on this when you do a search. Look for the policy information in posts by I_Quit. Good luck!

    This is correct.

Print out the link in my signature and take it with you to the SS office, and present it to them if they give you any grief. Pay particular attention to section C.

You're assuming they will do everything correct, even if you show them their own rules. Remember, these are government employees.

When we applied for my wife's SSN in maiden name, we never received the card because apparently the first guy at the SSA "lost" the application. On the 2nd visit, we applied again and they said they would send the card, but it never arrived. On the 3rd visit, they gave us the SSN but refused to change the name (we were married by then) because we were on day 76 of the I-94. We still had no actual card, but we had a letter from them.

After she received her GC, we changed the name and finally got the card.

My advice >>> play it safe with those SSA bozos and get the SSN in maiden name right away .

  8. I am asking this for a friend of mine, his fiancée was in a brief marriage 10 years ago and the man walked out after a couple of months and has not been heard from since. She never got an annulment due to the cost and never thought she would marry again. In fact, she was not sure if the marriage was ever filed.

He started the petition and now she has to get an annulment or her lawyer said the husband could be declared dead since no one knows how to contact him or have heard from him in several years.

So, is the current petition now trash since she was not legally available to marry?

Should he just withdraw the petition and wait until everything is done and start new?

    Thanks for everyone's advice!

If she can get a CENOMAR in her maiden name the marriage probably wasn't registered.

Even if that is true, if she has been using her married name and it's on her IDs (passport, etc.) she probably is going to have a problem.

BTW, what name did they use on the I-129f?

  9. hi our vj family! i would like to asknthis urgent question. can i apply for an ssn afer my wedding coz i'll be changing my last name then. so, to save effort and maybe money, can i apply only after our wedding?

hope somebody will answer me soon.

thanks a lot. God bless us all.

You may be making more trouble for yourself by waiting. It's usually better to apply in maiden name after you are here for two weeks. You'll get the card in about a week or two.

It's easy to change your name with SSA after marriage, but you have to do it within 76 days of your I-94 entry date, or wait for EAD or GC.

If you get past 76 days on your I-94 entry date, SSA won't change anything until you have something official from USCIS like an EAD or a GC.

  10. My fiance got his packet 4 today. However, the name is misspelled. or Shall I say it was our mistake. Do you think we can still have it fix by calling the USEM. I'm afraid if we go ahead and pay delbros that it might delayed the visa.. Any input will be greatly appreciated. I tried calling the embassy but no one is picking up. Anyone had the same problem?

My fiancee had the same problem. I called them, emailed them, and sent them a letter to make sure it was corrected before interview.

What is the email address? Were they able to correct it?

I forget the email address, but they corrected it before interview either from my phone call or the follow-up letter. They never responded to my email so I don't even know if they got it or read it.

  12. Anyone marrying someone from a poor family should make sure he/she knows the expectations of the spouse and family in advance. This goes for domestic marriages as well as international.

In the case of Filipinas, some families are just happy to see their daughter marry a guy from the US. It's somewhat of a status symbol for them. As my wife says, her family is "proud".

Filipino tradition is that the children help support the family, which of course is strange to us in the US, but that needs to be understood by the US spouse. Now, some of the women and families have expectations regarding money, and that's what you've got to watch out for. Some families will really pressure their daughter to send more money, which is very sad IMO.
