The article you posted is from a source I don't fully trust.  Plus it says the number of applications increased and although that might be true, with Trump in office I can't imagine the number of applicants increased.  There was an article from the Washington post I think months ago explaining an executive order Trump signed which makes the process slower by giving the agency more power to slow the immigration process.  Not just the USCIS but also gives the embassies around the World the power to slow the process down. 
Saying the number of of applicants increased and they are not staffed for it is a lousy excuse in my opinion.  I clicked on the main page of the newspaper site and they had an overweight lady on the main page and some rapper getting arrested for doing a stunt on a motorcycle......I wouldn't trust such a news website

That would be the date you sent it in...from what I understand. 
 
Once I think I finally have a handle on all of this, I go second guessing myself. 

Check your NOA.  On the form will be a section for "Priority Date". It may or not be filled in.  If not, use the "Received Date" that's on there.  Only one of my forms has a priority date, but the lady I spoke with on the phone (when I called to ask about my SR) confirmed that my case had been pending for 90 days.  That 90 days started on the "recieved date"

I am a may AOS filer. Sent documents 20 of May. But I am a little confused now. From what point I should count the days my case is pending? The date I sent the case , received date in NOA or NOA date? Which one of those? I don't have priority date though. Also I see on visajourney timelines "date filed", "date received" terms. How do those correspond to the dates I can see in NOAs?

I got those ambiguous messages last Monday and the approval letters on Friday.  Saturday I got my card!  Later on in the week I finally got emails, in no logical order, saying card produced, card mailed, card approved, etc.  
The date on my card is August 7th, which is the day my SR was assigned to an officer.

Mine was completed 08/11 but I haven't received a response yet. I put mine 08/03, and I am still waiting for response. I got bored earlier so I raised a third one, so they can just suck it. 

My service request was completed! It says they sent a response, but there is nothing in my email.
 

That was my experience and within the week I recieved my approval notices and EAD by mail.    I would fully expect you to have your card by the end of next week, or at least approval.  But let us know!

I'm feeling anxious for a response. I need to know if this is just another routine let down or if something is actually going to come of the cases that were assigned this morning!

Don't feel alone. We filed May 5 with NOA1 May 24. For some reason, some cases move faster than others. Hang in there, that's just the way USCIS works. 

OK fingers cross n by the end of the day ur case can go under review n by next week ur new card can go into production. Continue to keep us posted.

A few pages back, Lupigirl had her case assigned and completed all in one day. She never received an email, but instead her case changed to 'in production.
Can only hope for the best!

Just google the nearest social security office to you. I'm sure in that area there are a couple. 

Also, sorry to get political, but the more the political and social climate intensifies in this country, the more desperate I am to get this process done. I really don't need to be ripped away from my career and my family, and dumped on a plane due to some new surprise law. Sometimes I wonder if it's even worth it. Why do I want to be here so bad anyway? This place is nuts.

It's based on people updating their timelines and shows that most everyone as of May 1st is receiving their EAD cards. Tomorrow it will most likely be may 2, so focus on that. Occasionally, it moves ahead faster than normal and may progress a couple days ahead in one day. Keep your focus on that! It's much more reliable.

I just checked my case online and it says:
 On August 15, 2017, we ordered your new card for Receipt Number MSCxxxxxxxx, and will mail it to the address you gave us.

Dates We Met, who Cooks, names In Pictures, dates of births, how and who did the Proposals. Whereabouts of kids, events attended.... I think questions probably are gon be asked differently based on situation
