Savings isn't a grey area sadly. When using savings for assets, you either make enough or you don't, and if you don't none of it matters.


Assets are only counted if have more than 3 times the amount that you are missing from the yearly income poverty guidelines. 3 times for immediate relative, 5 times for any other. Note that some consulates have been asking for 5 times, regardless if it's fiance or not.


So working with just the number 3, if your fiance only made 10k last year, and the poverty limits for 2 people are 20,025, then he is missing 10,025 to be able to meet the line. You then multiple the missing amount by 3, and you get 30,075.
$30,075 is the amount of money in savings needed to cover the missing income and make it so the poverty lines are met.

The math is fairly simple, if it's just you and him and he has no children or dependents, then simply take 20,025 and minus out what he made last year on his last tax return, what ever that number equals, multiply it by 3, and that's how much savings you'll need.

(Current Needed Income) - (Current Income) = Missing Income Needed
(Missing Income Needed) * (3) = Assets needed to meet the poverty lines

Not sure how much savings ya'll have, some people think 10,000$ is a lot in savings, some thing a couple of grand is a lot, so I figured I'd give you the equation to figure out if you have enough yourselves.


With that said, you're most likely looking at needing a cosponsor. While current income matters, it matters a lot less the newer the job is, so you'll want him to find a well paying job ASAP. They do look at job history and such, but they prefer US job history over anything else.


As for the money, it needs to be in USD so it can be used here readily. And yes, it may be a red flag for him to show his US bank statement and have a very large transfer thrown in.

As for your savings, generally the foreign fiances savings don't matter much.  Some consulates won't even look at any proof, because it's not your job to take care of yourself in this situation, it's your fiances job.

You send the I-134 and tax returns, letter of employment etc to your fiancee. She will have to present them at her interview to prove you can sponsor her. 

You have an approved i-129f petition. Now your fiancée will have to apply for the K-1 visa. Ie the i-129f and the K-1 are two different things.
 
The approved PETITION will go through NVC and they'll give you a case number. Once the approved PETITION reaches the embassy in your fiancées country the embassy will probably reach out to either her or you, in one way or another (this is country specific and I have no experience with how it works in Moldova). This is when your fiancée applies for the VISA, the embassy will let her know what to send or what to bring. I suggest both of you keep an eye on your emails etc in case they contact you that way.
 
She needs to bring documents proving you can support her, generally they want originals, ie wet signatures and so on. So you need to send them via regular mail. She also need to have a medical with chest x-rays, she needs to complete the DS-160 and then of course the interview.

What to send to your fiance once the I-129F is approved (Receive NOA2):

1. A copy of the entire I-129f package (that you made when you sent the petition in) and a copy of information that you sent back due to an RFE (if you received one). Your fiance should review this information in advance of the interview (the embassy will have copies of this as well). 2. Send copies of the documentary proof that you submitted with the I-129F for your fiance to have on hand for their interview at the embassy. Your fiance should review this information in advance of the interview (the embassy will have copies of this as well). 3. Send an original letter affirming your desire to marry your fiance and your continued support of the K-1 Visa. Sign and date the form. This will be similar to the letter you provided with the I-129F, but dated much closer to the interview (it will have most likely been several months since you submitted your I-129F). 4. I-134 Affidavit of Support form. Ensure it is signed, with all required supporting evidence. Begin collecting the required information ahead of time, as it can often take several weeks to collect it all. 5. You will need several items (for the above form). Gather duplicate evidence of income and resources as appropriate: 

(A) Statement from an officer of the bank/financial institution with your deposits, identifying the following: 1. date account opened; 2. total amount deposited for the past year; 3. present balance 
(B) Statement(s) from your employer on business stationary showing: 1. Date and nature of employment; 2. salary paid; 3. whether position is temporary or permanent (also include copies of your last two pay stubs and your previous W-2 for the associated employer if available) 
(C) If Self Employed: 1. Copy of last income tax return filed (or IRS transcripts); or 2. report of commercial rating concern 
(D) List containing serial numbers and denominations of bonds and name of record owner(s). 

Begin collecting these ASAP after your NOA2 arrives. See this FAQ for more tips and useful information on the Affidavit of Support Form. 6. A copy of the NOA2 that you received in the mail. (backup information; the embassy will have copies of this as well) 7. Proof of your ongoing relationship. This needs to be taken to the interview! Include photos, travel documents, emails, online chat logs (pick several over the prior few months), etc.. from between the time you filed and present (NOA1 until date-now).

Examples: Copies of land line and cell phone bills, appropriate emails and letters you have sent including the stamps on envelopes (to document the date they were sent), and other written documentary proof. Provide a reasonable amount; two to four of each type. Pick a range of dates up to and including the present. You can also include a copy of engagement ring receipt (this is something that is a big optional - do not worry if you do not have a ring yet!)

Let me be clear, my taxes / income is not so much an issue - I am just wondering who I send my taxes too?
- if the usa government approves the petition, then who needs to look at the taxes? 
- I will send I-134 Affidavit of Support form - but who do I send it to? and why.
 
 
 

I have received the second Notice of Action (NOA) acknowledging our K-1 petition has been approved.
 
2 Questions.
 
1.) I thought that NOA2 would involve a second step -> Example = Taxes and proof of income.
But, apparently, all is good and the paperwork on my end (until her interview or until she comes here to USofA) is complete? I don't know, but I feel like I am missing something. (I am probably overthinking it ...Either way, your feedback would be greatly appreciated.)
 
2.) on the K1 Flow page http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1flow they say in Step 4:
* Start gathering documents needed by beneficiary (Fiance(e)) - See K-1 Guide.
* Beneficiary can research and prepare forms required by embassy.
What are you talking about exactly ^^ ? -> what documents do I need to send / what documents can I help my fiance prepare. (I think I already know the answers, but I just want to ask you, to double check
 
All my concerns are primarily about me missing an important step. It's just me, so I would appreciate your feedback for reassurance.

I am under the impression that all is good on my end and now she (my fiance) must wait (1-2 weeks?) until she receives letter of direction <- is this correct? (and will she receive a letter or an email?)
 
- I have sent a exact duplicate copy of my entire K1 package to her. 57 pages.
- My fiance is from Moldova
- She is very nervous about the interview, even though I KNOW this won't be problem. (I don't 'know' but I read a lot about this and all the women that have an interview at the American embassy in Chisinau seem to have good experience. am I wrong?)

NOA2 just mentions it has been approved and forwarded to the NVC. NVC will handle your application there and send it to the Embassy. In that meantime you can send her a package with the I-134 and supporting documents like tax returns, letter of employment etc, your intent of marry with wet signature. An update letter of your intent to marry, dated within 30 days of the interview.
 
A completed I-134 Affidavit of Support.  (This will require an IRS tax transcript, a letter from your employer, a copy of bank statements/assets [if using], and pay stubs)
