  1. Hi Jim. I stop in a couple times a year. This just happens to one of those times. Glad to hear you're doing fine. AnhMap- I have a friend teaching in Hanoi and he says it's pretty tense. Still hanging around huh , luckytxn?

  2. First, I'd like to thanks VisaJourney for all the helpful information and the wonderful advise from everyone up here that helped me get through the first stage of the process. I got my Notice of Action today!!! My application has been sent to the NVC after exactly 3 months! (4/27 receipt, 7/27 NOA) :star:

During our excitement, my wife and I went to look up what we are about to go through next. We got an idea, but still very cloudy and confused! I'd like to hear everyone's experience with this next stage for the paperwork at the NVC. We don't know if the DS-3032 will appoint an agent, and who this agent should be? (me the hubby or the consulate in Vietnam, etc?)

What about the civil documents required from my wife in Vietnam? This is really important because the Vietnamese paperwork can be hellishly long. The Police Report, what is that? My wife lived in the US from 18-24years old, then she moved back to Vietnam from 24-26yo (which is current). How many police report do we need? And where do we get them?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Having all you paperwork ready before the NVC requests it will reduce your stress level. Try to stay one step ahead of forms you will need to complete, but take it one step at a time. You won't have to worry about the Police cert until your case is sent to the Consulate (Police certs are only good for a short period of time).

Start preparing all the paperwork you need for the NVC now. You can get your AOS ready (I-864). Tax info, bank statements ect.

Fill out the DS-230 (Part 1) for your wife and email it to her. Have her print it out, sign it , and snail mail it back to you. Get any copies of documents from her that you would need at the same time. This will save on mailing costs and time.

You should have your wife appoint you as the agent, unless you have an attorney. The agent is the person in charge of filing paperwork for your case. Does emailing the DS-3032 still work?

    Good Luck!!

  3. I once again need to call upon the wisdom of the Visa Journey elders and friends

My wife and I are planning a trip to Vietnam in January and coming back in February. My wife's Vietnamese passport has expired and we just got it renewed so she should not need a separate visa going to Vietnam and she can use her CR1 visa to get back in the country. We will be back 1 week before her anniversary date so that shouldn't be a problem.

We plan on going to Thailand for 1 week in the middle of our stay. Should I get a multiple entry visa for Vietnam? I don’t think I need a visa for to go to Thailand however to get back into Vietnam I would need one. She told me the travel agency in Vietnam would take care of it but I am not too sure of that.

    Has anybody tried that before?

All Tran needs is her passport and Greencard to get back into the US. Don't worry about the CR1.

I can't help you on the multiple entry visa.

When are you guys coming to MN again?

  4. Awesome!

You petition won't be at the NVC long. Most of your paperwork is already done and approved. You will have to update is your income papers, medical exam and police report.

DON'T send your I-864 to the NVC. They will charge you to process it. Bring it to the interview.

  5. Hello all,

Long story short: I met my fiancé 1st trip, and recently came back for 2nd trip. I’m going back in 6 months with my parents to do the ceremony. Should I go ahead and file the K1 paperwork now? Or wait after the ceremony? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    vyx

I think most here would be in agreement to wait until after your engagement ceremony to file your petition.

  6. I'm fluquent in English. I can read semi viet. It's just I'm worried that consulate require certified translation

Only the UCSIS and NVC require translations. The US Consulate in VN has staff that can speak both languages. No need to translate for the Consulate. For peace of mind you can have anyone fluent in both languages can translate for you.

  7. As for document 2 and 3 where do I get it from?

Those documents are linked to the VN Embassy page. They are the RED BOLD type.

It doesn't say where to get it from well document 3 say issued by the State or County which is where?

Local County records can get that for you.

  8. Hello every one I'm a new members :D and I'm glad to be here :D now I have a few quick question I need help with. Well I'm getting married in January of 2012 so it only five month away, and I was wondering what document or paper do I need to get before I go back for my wedding to get the marriage certificate? Is it the Medical Record/Information and an Affidavit of Single Status? Is there anything else I need to bring back with me or is it only those two paperwork/documents? If that is the only two then for the Medical Information can I go to any walk-in clinic or do I have to go to the hospital for it? Also what do I tell them what dose the Medical document called? As for the Single Status paper how do I get it? Is there any guide or a website or any source on how to obtain this Single Status paper? Because I really don't want to pay for Dich Vu for this it is too expensive like $300-$400 just for this, and I heard people say it cheaper to get it on your own. Also how long does the Single Status, Medical Information document last? 3 months or 6 months? If any one know how to get Affidavit of Single Status please link me a guide or website on it or just tell me here step to step on how to get it and how much it will cost and how long it last? That is all and sorry for my English I'm not very good with writing, but Thank in advanced for the help and your time. :D

  9. Chances of her getting a tourist visa to the US are probably pretty slim. She would have to prove ties to VN. owns property, a job, ect.

K-3 was supposed to make it faster for a spouse to enter the US. First you would file for a CR1, once your NOA1 comes you would file K-3. Both petitions end up at the NVC at the same time. Now The K-3 is discarded in favor of the CR1. K-3 is basically obsolete now.

You can do a K-1 since you do not have a cert yet, but would have to marry and adjust status once in the US. If you go the CR1 route, there is paperwork needed from the US before you can legally marry a VN National in addition to filing your I-130 (CR1).

The CR1 is the best visa.

    Good luck!

  10. Most of us here filed all our paperwork without the help of an attorney/preparer. You really don't need someone to prepare your paperwork for you, that's what VJ is for. It may seem overwhelming at first glance, but it really isn't that bad (the paperwork). The hardest part is waiting and worrying if you forgot something. Triple and quadruple check everything before sending in.
