    Thanks for the information everyone.

My fiance called his doctor, who says that the embassy informed him to no longer provide copies of the DS-3025 to patients :S

He also gave a number to reach the embassy contact so hopefully they will help us sort this out.

Sorry the above was incorrect. The embassy told the panel doctor to START giving copies of DS-3025 to patients, something which he was not required to do at the time my fiance went for his medical exam. :-/ Hopefully we can submit the AoS without needing an additional exam now.

BC must be translated to English from any other language. That applies for interview and for AOS. Some do it themselves other have someone else do it. I translated with https://rushtranslate.com/ (certified and notarized in 24± hrs)

Thanks for the link - seems very helpful.

After reviewing my fiance's birth certificate it appears that it is also in English - in addition to Dutch, French, and German on the main page. And on the second page there is a translation for what appears to be every single EU language(!) My fiance confirmed with the embassy that this birth certificate can be used when applying for AOS.

Given how convoluted the document is though (just like everything else in Belgium), I feel like it would help the immigration employee if we highlighted the english portions, since they can be easy to miss. Is that advised or not?

You're on a K1, so "legal Alien NOT allowed to work." Double check by referring to page 3!

According to the SS website https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0110211530: to a K-1 fiance can check "legal alien allowed to work" ... Is there a reason why I shouldn't follow the instruction on the SS website? (We plan on printing out the page as instructed here )

Also, don't forget that you can start establishing credit once you have an SSC. Best get started soon as it takes 6 + months. I recommend a secured credit card (requires a deposit as collateral) with a checking account.

Thanks for the tip. I have pretty good credit so I will start by adding him as an authorized user to one of my accounts, which should help build his credit score. If he can't get his own card after a few months, then we will get a secured credit card connected to a checking account.

The instructions mean exactly what it says in a convoluted way at least. If you have had a medical completed before you entered on your K1, and you have filed for AOS, within one year of the expiry of that medical - you are not required to have another full medical in the USA. Did you receive a DS3025 at the time of your medical in your home country? Does it list all the vaccinations you received? If yes, when you apply for AOS, send a photocopy of this document with the application.

If for some reason you never received a DS3025, you did not receive any of the required vaccinations during your medical and you obtained them after your medical - then you will need to go seek out a US civil surgeon to recertify (just the vaccinations only) onto the I-693. The I-693 instructions will tell you which portions a K1 should be filling out for that. Part of the form is completed by you, and some is completed by the US civil surgeon, and then it is sealed in an envelope. This is then sent along with your AOS application. Again a K1 is not required to have a full medical, so long as they still have a valid medical (up to 1yr) at the time they file for AOS - but they must at least show that they have received the required vaccinations needed.

So essentially my fiance will need to have DS 3025 completed from his medical examination and this is the only thing that we will need to send with AOS application?

    Thank you for the clarification.

  6. Hi everyone,

This question is a follow up to the following post: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/581050-i-864-tax-return-for-most-recent-tax-year-issue/

My fiance and I are planning on getting married and applying for AOS by the end of the month. However, I will not have my tax return completed for 2016 before then. Can I submit I-864 with a tax transcript for 2015 as the most recent year, or will 2016 be expected?

  7. For the K1 interview at the Us Embassy in Belgium, my fiance's birth certificate does not need to be translated since it's in Dutch. However, since the birth certificate will need to be translate to English when filing for AOS - does the translation need to occur at a US embassy approved location in Belgium, or can it be done at an approved location here in the states. If the latter, where can we find locations that offer certified translations of birth certificates in NYC?

  8. I've been reading through some past threads regarding applying for a K1 visa but I'm not sure how up to date the information is. I have the following questions:

    1) If the I-94 is electronic now, do we still need to wait 2 weeks to go to a SS office?

    2) My fiance and I plan on getting married within days of his arrival. Does it still make sense for him to go to the social security office before the wedding? Or is there no difference?

    3) Does the SS office keep the certified copy of the birth certificate or do we get to take it back?

    4) Can I use this social security number to add my fiance as an authorized user to one of my credit card accounts, to start building up his credit, or are there limitations?

Thanks in advance for everyone's help!

  9. Hi everyone,

New to this thread, but have been observing for a while. Received great information on applying for a K1 visa for my fiance and my I-129F, received at the CSC on 19 July 2016, was approved in "just" six weeks!

Unfortunately, the letter itself doesn't provide much information with what to do next. But based on VJ's amazing guide, I assume the application will move to DHS, which in turn will forward to the embassy, and then my fiance will receive information at his home address. In the meantime, I need to prepare the I-134 form (even though it was not mentioned anywhere by the NOA2 yet) because the embassy will request it. Then I send a copy of the package and the I-134 to my fiance so he can have it ready by the time he gets called for an interview.

Can anyone confirm if this is correct? Will I receive any other notifications at this point (from DHS or embassy) or do I need to call to obtain this information?

    Thanks!
