  1. Anybody know where to get an English version of the Quran reasonable? I haven't found any stores around here. What would be a good price to pay for it?

Most Mosque will give you one for free, You might also try CAIR's website.

  2. Ramadan is approx 8 weeks away.

:o wow where did the time go?

Isn't there also a rule that if you have an Israeli stamp in your passport you can't go to hajj?

    jJ

some Muslim countries do give you a hard time at the border with an Israeli visa, but to go to Hajj, you will need to obtain permission from SA and the SA visa for this purpose. Don;t forget there are Israeli Muslims who go to Hajj on their Israeli passports.

ok... ladies and gentleman.. question. This is my first Ramadan after my shahada.... I know there is no eating or drinking after sun rise and before sun set but I also just read that here is sexual abstinance.... did I read that right??? or is it only during sun rise and sun set?

Fasting is indeed more than just abstaining from food and drink- also includes sex, smoking, etc. but only durign the fasting hours. And a small correction- (not sure if you meant literally sunrise) -- fasting begins at dawn which means up to a half hour or more fasting time (depending on where you live) than if you begin at sunrise.

  3. Hi All,

We got appoved 6th June, we didnt hear yet from the NVC or the consulate, does it sounds normal ? we tried to call and the operator said to give it like 4 weeks, now one month has passed since we got the approval. do we have to call again and see or write them email ? do they answer emails ?. your advice will be appreciated so much, thanks.

Try sending NVC a email. Include your case number and anems and birthdates for the petitioner and beneciary.

You can also try to contact the consulate. A k-1 usually moves through NVC in about a week. The Consuilate may have already given you an interview date and the packet may have gotten lost in the mail. Casa usually schedules interviews pretty quick o you do not want to miss the interview!

NVC will assign a different case number than the one you have from USCIS, so in the email to the consulate besure to include enough information so they know which case.

  4. hi ,

please if you can explain me this , i 'll have interview in the next few days, what i know is that the USCIS send the approved package to NVC, then the NVC send it to the consulate where i'll have interview right ? so why then the consulate ask for a copy of the 129 F ? is not itself the same package sent by the NVC ? thank you all.

The consulate will not ask for a copy of the 129. VJ does suggest the beneficiary have a copy in hand because papers do get lost. Also the consulate (and Casa seems to do this more than most) may prejudge the validity of your relationship based on the evidence submitted to USCIS. Most of the questions during the interview come from information in that file. The beneficiary should know exactly what is in it.

  5. I know how frustrating AP is because there seem to be no rhyme nor reason, but in this case, I am not sure how helpful the poll is going to be. AP averages vary greatly from one consulate to another even with in MENA. Even the average of one consulate cvaries over time depending on work load.

What might be the most helpful is to use the timeline search features and narrow the search for the consulate you are going through.

Good luck and keep in mind, that no matter how impossible this process is, there will be some resolution. (F)

  6. I guess it's a cultural thing... And in my culture (Caribbean) and other African cultures, it is a thing to be taken very seriously, and deserves at least some respect. If my husband asks to be buried back home, I will honor his request, because I love and respect him and his view/culture. If I made the same request I would hope he respected my wishes.

And... you must also consider the family of your SO. Your SO's request to be buried back home is surely no secret to his/her family. By not honoring your SO's request, you may be offending or disrespecting his family back home. That can stir up all kinds of ill will and contention. Family is everything in African and Caribbean culture...marrying some one of these backgrounds, call for understanding and respect for their culture, no matter how absurd it might appear to you.

Yes its expensive to send the body back home, but if you plan ahead, it wont be such a financial burden when the time comes. Life insurance is a good way to cover the cost of shipping the body

I agree with you. My husband's request to be buried in Morocco is his request and it doesn't really matter my opinion. I know its expensive, but isn't the average cost of a US funeral about $6000 or more?

  7. If you're dead you won't know where you're buried!

    :P

I'm just kidding. My husband has made the same request. I haven't looked into the details very closely, but I have heard that the Moroccan embassy here helps with the details. I'm sure it's pretty expensive.

Anywhere from $7000 to $12,000 to send the body home. My husband wants to take out life insurance for bills etc and to ensure I have the money to bury him in Morocco.

  8.:dance: Congrats Jenn! - we all knew that you aced it. How many more to go???

Thanks, Dorothy (and Noura, Laura, Jackie, and Sophia too!)! 5 down, 4 to go - it's the homestretch to the big bucks!:dance:

First its being a Mod, next it is the big bucks....soon you are going to forget us :crying:

  9. I just made Platnum member!!!!!!

I'm working on my hearts :D

Keeps your mind off things ;)

tell me about it... JJ suggested it and now I am all over this board lol

I'm only like 12 posts away from a heart, but I'm trying really hard not to spam the boards and only respond to threads when I have something to say.... trying :lol:

How many posts away from a heart did you say?

  10. I have never been asked to produce such a thing when being involved in a counter! Somehow I do not think this is appropriate. Why not just tell them what the terms are for you to be inclined to stay? (the terms do not need to mirror what you would get at the new company)

Maybe you're right, but maybe the company has a policy that needs this documentation in order to get the higher ups to actually make the counteroffer.

R_R Did you get the new job offer in writing already?

  11. The sad thing here is now we found out Starbucks is going to lay off something like 150,000 people and DHL is also cutting back. Hate to negotiate myself out of a job.... The first offer I had is more pay and 5 weeks paid time off.. totally digging the Paid time off gives me more time to see my hubby..... should I even negotiate.. uuugghhhhh

If you would be happy to stay to the current job if they met or exceeded the offer from the new job, hear them out. I would be careful about playng two sides against each other and ending up with nothing, BUT there is nothing wrong with being honest and saying someone is offering you more and this is why you want to move on.

If the current job conter offers withsomething that is too good to pass up, then just ask whomever offered the new job if they could match the counter offer. Let them know if you are serious about working for them and do it in a way that doesn;t seem like you are just playing one against the other.

If you don;t toot your own horn- no one else would. There is no room for shyness in work matters. Good luck!

They're asking me to submit my offer letter to them so they can work on a counter.. does that sound reasonable.. to me it does they can see it first hand and I dont have to say anything

I would certainly let them make a counteroffer if you are really willing to stay with this company for a while. sounds very reasonable to me. You could even stress the paid vacation time is really valuable to you. (or whatever else)

  13. I am feeling horribly land locked. It's taking all my wits to not engage the hubster in his interest in a job in NC. It's much harder that I expected it to be.

    (F) It's tough when things are hard. But why resist encouraging the new job in NC?

Because we relocated to Kansas (from FL) just in december for a new position. It doesn't look good careerwise, and financially it doesn't make a lot of sense to move again so soon.

edited: grrr I spell doesn't wrong every time!!

    it sucks being practical! :P
