They don't always remind you that it's about to expire. It happened to my dad a couple of years ago, he was in the process of applying for naturalization and I guess didn't really pay attention to his GC expiration date. He was only gone for a couple of weeks, and it expired while he was out of the country. He called the embassy and they gave him a re-entry permit

We are ALL immigrants. Just because your ancestors came to the US a few decades earlier does not mean the US belongs to
you.
Hasn't anybody seen Pocahontas?

They want your taxes for 2006? Are you sure?

Well, a suprise came in the mail today. We got the Biometrics Appointment letter, without ever receiving the NOA1. I can finally heck our status and here is what it says, any opinions are welcoming. Our original petition (I-129f) went thru Vermont, and the AOS is going thru Missouri?
On February 14, 2007, we received this I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS, and mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case. Please follow any instructions on this notice. We will notify you by mail when we make a decision or if we need something from you. If you move while this case is pending, call customer service. We process cases in the order we receive them. You can use our processing dates to estimate when yours will be done. This case is at our MISSOURI SERVICE CENTER location. Follow the link below to check processing dates. You can also receive automatic e-mail updates as we process your case. Just follow the link below to register.
Is this normal for someone coming thru Pittsburgh?
I guess so. My hubby received his NOA1 after the bio appt letter.

Received the biometrics appointment today, but no NOA1 yet. On a totally unrelated note, the case number I guessed from the back of my check was pretty much illegible so I guesstimated a few case numbers...haha..it drove me insane for a couple of days. The last number was evillllllllllll, I thought it was a 2, but it turned out to be a a stretched out 3. I'm not insane...i'm not insane..

yeah...i don't even bother with the uscis timeline.

We applied a couple of days before you and we still haven't received the NOA1. You're reaaaaaaaally have to be patient if you want to survive this process.

phew, I thought this was gonna be another "I always lurk and you're all idiots" post. Welcome, and lurk away if you'd like

I haven't received my NOA1 yet, but I kept stalking my online bank account until the check was cashed

I get it everytime I click on "advance search". I really wish it was more like google and you could search for a whole phrase, rather than just one word..I'm probably using it wrong

Me and the VJ search engine just don't understand each other

Uncle sam doesn't care about breaking up a family

I don't think they like to admit it/announce it, but it certainly is possible. A family friend was in the same situation, and was able to adjust his status. I think there's also a fine that has to be paid for the overstay, I'm only 1% sure of this though.
You need to double check your info with regard to fines to be paid... dont know where you are getting your information for but there is no fine to be paid for an overstay when married to a USC...
Kez
Why the hell would I do? I could care less if there's a fee or not.
Edit: People REALLY need to learn how to READ before they get all psychotic. I said "I THINK" and that I was only "1%" sure. CHILL OUT. THE WORLD KEEPS ON TURNING.
May I sugest that unless you know then dont post... because this is how people pick up the wrong info and then make mistakes that can have a very big impact on there lives...

Most people with half brain know the difference between an opinion and a fact. Do you?

I'll add the voice to the choir. Yes, a plain photocopy is fine, you only need bring the original (which is called the "certified copy", BTW) to the interview. They may only cost $5, but you're wasting $5 by sending USCIS one, go get a burritto with that $5 instead, they're yummy.
So if I have 3 certified copies, does that mean I have 3 originals?
I don't like burritos, so to me, spending $5 on a burrito is a waste.

Wow! Thats gotta be a record
