I see. Ok, yes, she's considered a NRA for tax year 2016 and has no filing requirement on her own for 2016. You can elect to treat her as a resident for tax purposes and file your 2016 tax return as MFJ. To avoid any health ins. penalty you can certainly use Code C and the election to be treated as a resident has no effect on being able to use Code C.
 
You can prepare the return using TurboTax, however, you cannot e-File since you need to attach the election statement. It should go via regular mail (get tracking if possible).

I think the latter because 99% of the time (maybe it's not that high, but close) they don't even look at the extra evidence during the interview. Anyway, congrats that she'll be at your wedding! It's really nice and it is refreshing to hear positive stories like this one.

Update: She managed to get the visa to come to my wedding.
It seems like she might have managed to establish ties because of her bf in Romania. In her interview she was first asked why someone else is buying her ticket, she mentioned her bf who she lives with is buying the ticket and although invited, could not make it because of his job. She also mentioned that she would be our photographer for the wedding

SSN is for life so no she already have one.

More of an acquaintance really, but oh boy did this make me lose a lot of respect for that guy. He was in my Master's program as an international student and found a job in the US. Now his gf in India is applying for a degree here as well and he intends to marry her when she reaches the US.
I myself am going through the experience of bringing a loved one here and have read the stories of other on this forum as well as the difficulties and hardships they face doing the same thing as me.
I gave him the benefit of the doubt, but mentioned that what he's doing is considered immigration fraud and they will probably ask her at the interview if she knows anyone in the US. In which case, she has a sister here but she should be honest and mention the fact that her boyfriend works here as well. But he's coached her omit that bit.
These are the people that just give the rest of us who want to immigrate here legally a bad name.

Try to get married before year end. That way you'll get a bigger return when you do your taxes and can do something special for eachother when you receive it

Finally I am a citizen of the United States of America. Sworn in today at Faneuil Hall in Boston. It was a very nice ceremony, but little different than what I expected. Here are the details; I arrived at Faneuil Hall around 1145am, oath letter said 1205pm. It was a very hot day in Boston ~90F, not sure if it is because of that but they were already letting people in. Didn't wait too long outside and I entered the hall in 5 mins. They directed me to the right side of the hall based on the color of my letter. Around 1225pm they started checking in the applicants. I surrendered my green card at that point and took the standard new citizen package documents on citizens' rights, letter from President Obama, voter registration, passport application docs, etc. 1:15ish all check ins were completed, another 5 mins later they described what was in the package. At 1:40 Judge Bowler walked in the hall and the ceremony started. I was expecting lots of speeches and such first but they immediately proceeded with swearing in the new citizens. 361 new American citizens were sworn in. I again expected they'd announce the list of countries swearing in today but they didn't do that. No congratulatory video from President Obama either. Judge gave a 10-12 min nice talk, they then had 3 kids who won a immigration related essay contest read their essays. At around 2:05pm we took pledge of allegiance to the flag and the Judge walked out of the hall. They then asked the guest to leave at that point and around 2:15 they started handing out the certificate of naturalization. At 2:27 I walked out of the Hall. It was very well organized and prompt ceremony. I didn't feel the waiting was long.

Hi everyone, today was the big day and I finally became a USC. Just to give you a quick rundown, the ceremony was held at Faneuil Hall in Downtown Boston in the Great Hall which was a very fitting place to have held it. First things first, the entrance is at the steps right across Quincy Market. Don't confuse it with the entrance across from City Hall. They had a line outside and they go by order of color of the notice. (Yellow, White and Green) What took the most time was getting everyone seated, as there were around 380 new citizens today. The hall was divided into 2 sides and each side would first check in row by row to surrender their green card and hand in their notice. They also include an envelope with a letter from the President, a sleeve for the certificate and some other documents pertaining to citizenship. The ceremony itself was fairly fast when the judge walked in and everyone recited the Oath. She just read out a list of countries that everyone applied from and asked those people to stand up as she called out their country. Big round of applause for everyone and that was about it. Again, as was done in checking in, each side went row by row to pick up their certificate. All in all, it took about 2.5 hrs.

Hi charmander, the balcony wasn't completely packed on my ceremony date. I remember the guards mostly made an exception to people who had children or babies. In a few cases, the elderly were escorted by a family member to the ground floor itself. It seemed like they mostly stuck to the 1 guest/applicant rule.

Sorry about what happened with your wife. That's very unfair that the person put her, a US citizen, in another line just because of her accent.

I've never had to deal with CBP complaints, so unfortunately, there's not much I can say about how seriously it'll be taken. But I'd be very upset about the incident myself and would definitely send them a write up of the events you just described.
