  1. Does anyone know of the best and least expensive way to bring my fiancee and our daughter to the United States (Michigan) from Nanning, Guangxi, China? It would be ideal if her and our daughter could catch a flight out of Nanning but they may have to take a flight from Hong Kong. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Keith & Xiang

Let Xiang make any travel plans and book flights from her end in China, you will save a ton of money. Most important, get the departing flight out of China non stop to here, unless you will be with her to guide her through. Make it easy for her by doing that. For the China/USA leg, you can look online for the airline of your choice to get an idea who have the best schedule to do this.

I would choose the Nanning/Beijing/ORD myself (just my preference).

I can hook you up with some Domestic China flight plans if you want to just get an idea ahead of time. Just PM me and I will send you some easy links, it will work the same as if you were checking here, just that it will be only Domestic China. Let her pay cash too for the domestic side, save even more(vs/ your credit card).

No need to book way in advance for the China flights (ie: wait till she completes the interview), just let her handle it from her end and you really will save a ton of Yuan.

  2. Smart yet casual I think is good. But really whatever you feel comfortable wearing.....just not something grungy or for after 5.

Agree. Remember first impressions last a life time, and you want this interview over in 3 minutes. Even though it should have no bearing on the visa officer approving your petition, why leave that to chance.

Smart business casual, you can't go wrong with that.

  3. Isn't it okay to scan pages and print them out?

    Of course it is.

If you set the scanner to "photo" and set the quality to best, or "maximum", it will give you a very high quality copy( it will just print out a little slower).

Each machine is a little different on what it can do and the options is has built in to it. Just play around with the settings to get the results you want.

  4. I'm making a copy of my passport for proof of citizenship----- but try as I might tho the text comes out fine--the picture is way too dark---I look like a shadowy price of darkness peering out the window of hades....

Does the photo quality really matter in this case?

I'll be enclosing good quality passport phot so----?

    any seegestations?

As the others said, B/C or Natl card.

Also you could try to turn up to a lighter quality copy on the scanner/copier if you still want to use the passport.

  5. Yes, that is what the official certificates look like from China.

The birth is fine as you mentioned (it should also have a passport picture of her on the front page glued to it).

For the divorce, she should have her little divorce book. Almost looks like a passport with pages (just about the same size). The notarial will make a zerox copy of that book, and then do the same translation and make it into a white book, page for page (the book will only be 2 inside pages, with 3-4 very short lines of words telling what the terms of the decree are). Just like the birth. She will also need a single certificate if you are K1. This is different from the divorce decree, but again, it is made into a book, just like the birth certificate is, translated and all with the red seal too. The final one will be the police certificate, again, made into the white book, translated and with the red seal.

The single certificate and police will expire in one year from issue, so don't get those until your petition leaves the NVC and heads to Guanghzou (she will have plenty of wait time to P3).

The birth and divorce never expire.

Make sure you get some extra copies made at the same time as you will need them later here in the states. If she gets them made at the same time, the 3d copy is cheap, and if you want more the price goes down even more. The first 2 will be expensive.

You only need 1 each of the police and single, again as they both will expire and are no use later after her interview (unless you/she just want an extra one for a costly souvenir).
