Good luck!! Let us know how the interview went!
Edit:
Quick question guys. Do you have to do the DL test even if you already have a DL in another country?
And would it be best to get the DL before the AOS interview? I got my SSN yesterday and was wondering about that.
I assume you live in Texas and you are from Germany, then you don't need to take the exam:
https://www.dps.texas.gov/DriverLicense/movingtotexas.htm
"Applicants who have a valid, unexpired driver license from another U.S. state, U.S. territory, or from Canada must surrender their out of state/country driver license and are not required to take the knowledge or skills exams. Texas also has license issuance reciprocity with France, Germany, South Korea, and Taiwan only. Applicants who have a valid, unexpired driver license from one of these countries are not required to take the knowledge or skills exams if they surrender their out of country driver license. However, if the applicant does not wish to surrender their out of country driver license, they must take and pass all required exams. The reciprocity only applies to passenger vehicles, not commercial vehicles or motorcycles. Foreign licenses not in English or Spanish will need to have a translation service or their consulate translate the information on the driver license prior to arriving. This translation requirement also applies for marriage licenses."

Virginia Driver license update
Not sure if there is any Virginia resident in this forum but just in case, we went to a Virginia DMV this morning with the following documents:
- EAD + AP combo card along with I-765 and I-131 approval letters
- Unexpired Canadian passport with expired I-94 stamp
- Canadian driver license.
- Utility bill
- SSN
I thought these are sufficient but apparently they also need a NOA1 letter for I-485
"Official letter from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) indicating one of the following:
that the applicant's petition for adjustment of status to permanent residency has been reopened and restored to a pending status"Will try again tomorrow with the NOA1 letter.

Yesss! Great news here, as well! My status changed for: New card is being produced
But only for employment authorization, the other one - Travel authorization - is still "case was received" is that normal? Am I gonna get both cards?
They received my documents on November 7th / Biometrics on December 14th.
Hey Congrat!! Yes, most likely you will receive a combo card.
Below is my status
2/2/2017 - EAD status changed (New Card is being produced)
2/6/2017 - Received hard copy approval letters for both EAD and Travel authorization (two separate mails)
2/7/2017 - EAD status changed to "Card Was Mailed To Me"
2/10/2017 - Received the combo card
Happy Friday everybody!!
-
Our status for EAD just changed :
"New Card Is Being Produced"
Today was 91 days from the received date (11/3). AP status didn't change but I hope it is a combo card!

Hello everybody,
Thanks for the status updates and tax info! Very helpful~
I filed mine on 11/1 and biometrics on 12/2 but no update yet.
FYI, I have noticed that You can submit an inquiry about your Form I-765 if your case has been pending more than 75 days (not 90 days) so i submit my inquiry yesterday but no news yet.
We shall see

Does anyone know for sure on all of this? We are really trying to do everything legally. The last thing we want is to shoot ourselves in the foot.
Congratulations!I can answer your question as I proposed to my now-wife one year ago on Christmas eve in Toronto. I had the same issue. My wife was in Toronto and I was in the State. I flew to Toronto on Christmas eve and because the date was so obvious, I didn't want to take a risk so I declared it.The Canadian Border Patrol asked me if I have a receipt for the ring. I showed him the receipt then he told me that I have to pay the duty(I think it was roughly 4~5%)
I was in a process of K1 visa so I had a NOA1 letter with me and I told him that we will eventually marry in the State and she will not reside in Canada but it didn't work haha.I ended up paying the duty and they printed a document claiming that the duty was paid. The officer told me to give the document to my wife so she can bring it with her whenever she crosses the border. The officer was very nice guy and he wished me luck.Since then, she traveled to the US twice with her ring but she had no issue at all. No one asked about the ring.My suggestion is to declare it! Be honest! Maybe you will get waived but even if you have to pay the duty, it won't be crazy amount. Because we were in a K1 visa process, we did not want to have any red flag issue crossing the border.Congrats again!! -
Hello,
I am a November filer as well!
We sent our applications on 11/1/2016 and received three NOA text message last night (technically today 12/08/2016 12:20AM- Eastern Time).
And they processed my check today! Let the journey begin!! Good luck everybody!!

Try Hotwire.com
It gives you a discount price but it won't tell you what hotel you will get until you book the hotel.
However, there are some hotels that will tell you what the previous person got:
go to Hotwire.com and search for Montreal and check for
"3-star All-suites Hotel in Downtown Montreal East area
80% Recommended
(Free breakfast, free internet, pet friendly, fitness center, busines center, self-service laundry)"
When you click, you will see the following message:
"Book soon! The last person got the Hotel Faubourg Montreal"
The price per night varies depend on the date and where you access (either canada or USA), but my wife was able to book at decent price when she accessed it from Canada
Currently, it says $73 (US dollar) per night from USA.
The hotel (Hotel Faubourg Montreal) was about 7~8 minutes walk from the consulate and it was very clean and they gave you free breakfast!
Does anyone have hotel recommendations for hotels in Montreal neat the consulate? I'd prefer to not stay in a hostel

Oh thanks! I forgot about that! I had read that you should do it, but it slipped my mind. Will definitely print it all off tomorrow. (Also forgot the letter of intent.. woops).
Hello PandaSong,
I am USC and I went to the interview with my fiance in Montreal.
1. I was about to say that you forgot the letter of intent. The checklist said the letter of intent by petitioner but we brought the letters for both petitioner and beneficiary. As for the affidavit of support, we brought 3 years of tax returns, employment letter, and pay stubs but he only collected the 2015 tax return and asked us if we brought W2 form. When we said no he said that's fine. So I guess, you can bring W2 form as an extra if your fiance has one but I don't think it is necessary.
2. Based on our experience, we did not need to provide a copy of my passport
3. Nope.
4. Yes he can come up with you. Just make sure your fiance bring his USA passport. Otherwise, he can't enter the building. He can be next to you for the first part of interview where you give all your documents. The second part of the interview, he would have to wait. (I waited less than 5 minutes haha).
After the interview, we went to this cute restaurant called "Olive & gourmando" to celebrate our visa approval. It is about 10 minute walk. I highly recommend the place.
Good luck!!

Hi peterjk. Thats so cool that we had the same interview date. I was so gonna yell out whos on visa journey when i was in line lol. Quick update. My status just changed to issued. Hope u get yours to. Best of luck. Mind me asking what state you are headed to?
Haha Thank you,
Congrats! Our changed to Issued too today!! yay!!
I am actually US citizen and my fiance (from Toronto) will move down to Northern Virginia near Washington DC.
How about you?
-
So does anybody know the status process after the interview if everything went well?
1.ready
2.administrative process
3.issued?
Am i right?
Hi DizzyLixt~
You and I have the same interview date!
Yes, you are right about the process
Here is my status:
5/25(Interview): Ready Immigrant
5/31: Ready NONIMMIGRANT
6/2: AP
I think it will change to "Issued" after AP within few days but I also read one couple who waited 1-2 months after AP so you never know
Good luck!

There is high possibility that you may have entered incorrect information about your visa type:
In Montreal Consulate, they only allow K1 visa interview on Wednesday. (it may changes from time to time but I just did my K1 interview on May 25th and only date available was Wednesday). As far as I know, all other Canadians who scheduled the K1 interview around this time frame only had Wednesday available as well.
Please double check you followed all the instruction correctly. You can't make an appoint on Monday or Tuesday.
Hello all,
My fiance and I are going through an incredibly rough time right now. We recent found out that our K-1 Visa Interview in Montreal has been cancelled for the second time. First it was scheduled for Monday May 16, and cancelled exactly 2 weeks before hand (May 2). We scheduled it again, the day it was cancelled, May 2, for Tuesday, June 6th. Today (May 24), we found out that it was cancelled again for no reason.
Has anyone run into anything similar? If so, what did you do? Does anyone know the particular reason for this?
Any advice or suggestions welcome.

Oh nice! Yea, not far at all!
I live in Reston (just moved up here from Orlando) and my fiancé will be moving down from Toronto.
There's a DC area Expat Canadian group on meetup.com. We're hoping to attend some of their events once my fiance moves to help ease the transition from Canada and have him meet some fellow Canadians.
Good to know about the group! My fiancee is from Toronto too.
She is not planning to come down here until late summer but we will definitely check that group as well!!
-
We booked a K1 interview at Montreal on February 9th, and the first available date was March 9th.
Hello neighbor~ I was responding to the original question and saw your profile. You (or your fiance) are from Reston, VA!!
I live in Vienna, Virginia~ Good to see another NOVA -Canadian couple!!
-
I made an appointment on March 10th and the earliest I can book was on April 6th.
(All Wednesday from April to May were available)
-
Thanks but i don't see it. I must be blind lol
also does the documents i need to prepare now only the ones on this document: http://photos.state.gov/libraries/canada/303578/montreal/Packet3-K1-MTL.pdf
Does the documents have to be copies or original? What are the supporting document they talk about when it comes to the I-134 form? For the evidence of relationship, can i use the documents used by my fiance to file our file?
I am going to visit my parents in France in 2 weeks until April 4! I will maybe have to send my packet 3 from there, in that case is the checklist above the right one i will have to send?
Thanks for your help friends!
Yalda
Congrat!!
My fiancee lives in Toronto but she will do the interview at Montreal so you and I will have similar pathways.
(BTW, I am US Citizen petitioner)
I got my NOA 2 on Jan 25th and about two weeks later, I called NVC and I received my Montreal Case number.
If NVC hasn't received the document from California yet, you just have to call repeatedly until you receive the case number.
Once you have your case number, you can check your status here:
https://ceac.state.gov/ceacstattracker/status.aspx
It will eventually change to "Ready" (your document will transfer from NVC to Montreal)
About 2 weeks after my status change to "Ready", I received a mail from NVC indicating that our document has transferred to Montreal (Only petitioner received this mail).
Then one day later, I received a mail from Montreal (this is the Packet 3 mail- It looks exactly same as the link you provided). Both, petitioner and beneficiary, received the packet 3 mail.
Once you receive the packet 3, the beneficiary will need to submit DS-160 form online.
Once the beneficiary complete the DS-160 and all the required documents are ready, you can email to Montreal along with the checklist (check all the documents apply to you and write "NA" if not applicable.)
We are currently at this stage. We haven't sent the email yet but I read that once you send the email, you will receive a Packet 4 which can be used to schedule an interview and medical checkup.
You will bring all the documents listed on the packet 3 to the Interview. I am not 100% sure about the original or copy but my plan is to bring:
Birth Certificate - Copy (but i will also bring the original document just in case)Police Certificates - OriginalI-134- OriginalI-134 Supporting Documents - my tax returns 2013,2014 and 2015 (I already finished my tax return for 2015 so we can bring it to our interview), recent paystub, letter from my company stating that I am a full time employee and what my my salary is, and bank statement.Evidence of relationship - Along with the evidence we sent previously, I will bring additional pictures and a latest phone bill
Hope this help! good luck!!
-
FYI, I got NOA2 on 1/25/2016 and I called NVC this morning (11 days after) and they gave me the case number. They said they received it yesterday. I called around 8AM (eastern time) and there was no wait

Just got our RFE today. They are missing the letter of intent to marry. Now I checked the master rfe list, and they all say re sent with a wet signature.
I can get this in the mail tomorrow morning, if I can submit a copy of the letter. Or should I wait till the end of February when we see each other again to get a original?
The rfe does not specify either way, just says a statement. We have no wedding plans, but do have the receipt for her engagement ring. Anyone?
All you need is a letter stating that you and your fiance will marry within 90 days of your fiance's entry to the US. (Please make sure to send two letters: one with your name and signature and another with your fiance's). I would not send the "copy" version. Although it is difficult to tell whether it is a copy or wet signature, you do not want to take another risk. Please send the original with a wet signature. You can ask your fiance to mail (express) it to you or you can wait till the end of February but personally I don't want to delay my k1-visa process. Good luck with your journey!!

Our case got approved too yesterday! I got a text message and an email notification around 10:30 PM (eastern time).
Yay!!! -
Few things:
1. Your copy of passport: It should be copy of ALL PAGES. Also, make sure it is issued with a validity of at least 5 years (Please see the requirement below:)
- Copy of the Birth certificate (front and back) for the US Citizen or a copy of ALL pages of the US Citizen's passport issued with a validity of at least 5 years or a copy of the US Citizen's naturalization certificate (front and back). This is used to establish citizenship.
2. Your Passport-style photos for Form G-325A (you and your fiance)
I may be wrong but i think your photo size is bigger than the standard passport type photo. (it should be 2 x 2 inches). I read that some people received RFE because they submitted wrong photo size. Again, I may be wrong but please double check your passport-type photo
OK I saw your video again, and I definitely think you need to have a new photo. The requirement said: the photos must have white background. I don't see the white background,
I would just go to CVS or Walgreens and take a picture again. It took 5 min and costs ~$12.
Since it would be tricky for your fiance, i would ask him to send you the digital file (as long as it has white background) and bring it to CVS and ask them to print passport type photo.
Good luck!!

I made a video of everything that I put into my packet. I plan on sending this packet off in the morning or on Monday (if my mother's copy of birth certificate isn't sufficient)
I'm going to attach the link to my youtube video below. If anybody is bored or has time, could somebody give me some kind of feedback as to whether or not I have done everything correctly?
Thanks in advance!!
Megan

CONGRATS!! Happy for you...yes, to be honest I didn't want a lawyer but my fiancé works a lot and he said he needed one. Is too late now to let him go....hope we get the NOA1 TODAY or Tomorrow or I'll go crazy...
I was wondering, is the lawyer going to receive the notification or my fiancé (petitioner)?
THANKS! we can do his
Have you or your lawyer submitted G-1145 Form (http://www.uscis.gov/g-1145) along with the I-129F package? This form is an optional form that is used to request a text message or email. USCIS will notify to the phone number and email address written on the G-1145 Form.
If you haven't submitted the form, you would have to wait until you receive a hard copy.

Hello~

Congratulation!!
Yes,We are in a similar situation. We received the green card last Thursday.
I heard random number (maybe 50% I don't know) of people who entered using a K1 Visa get interview waived.
So you and my case was never actually transferred to the local office but it was approved at Lee's summit Missouri
Congrat again!!!
