When looking at the I-94 paper there is a preprinted 11 didget number in the upper left on the paper on the side where you write your name. On the other side hand written is the letter A and then about 8 numbers in the section marked "record of changes" where they stamped the authorization and hand wrote the date that the I-94 is good till. Which # is the I-94 number?

Hi Folks,
It has been a while since I've read and posted. Here is my update and questions. My fiance has been here now for 2 months on his K-1 visa. When he came through JFK he got his I-94 work authorization. Later he also got his SS card that is marked "valid for work only with DHS authorization." He hasn't been employed as of yet. We have been living together now for 2 months and we have worked through many communication issues and us being together for more then just a few days as well as his adjustment to the US. And we are still loving each other and our relationship has strengthened. So we are very excited and we picked out our wedding bands and will be getting married in 2 weeks. So now for the questions:
1 - We will be marrying in about 2 weeks which will be about 8 days before his visa/I-94 expires. He just found a local union in his area of experise is possibly interested in employing him. It will most likely happen after the I-94 is up. How do we go about extending the work permission?
2 - The SS# I believe is temporary - Yes? Is it good til he gets his green card?
3 - How does one go about getting DHS authorization for work? and what is DHS as I said I've been out of the loop and I've gone brain dead.
Thanks

When my fiance comes through JFK if they do not stamp him for the EAD does that mean that he can't get a SS #?
-
SHE GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are both very happy and can't wait to be together. Thank goodness this AP/AR process is over and she got the visa.
A big thanks to VisaJourney and its members. For all those still waiting, all the best to you... the waiting is very tough. Hang in there.
Yeah!!! cONGRATS TO YOU BOTH - WISHING YOU ALL THE BEST

My fiance received the immunization sheet prior to his medical. When he did the medical, he received some of the immunizations that he will need for when he is in the States. When he went to the interview they took the medical sheets as well as the immunization worksheet. My fiance has his visa now but did not receive back the immunization worksheet. Is it in the sealed brown envelope? Was the embassy supposed to give it back to him? How does he get it to show to the civil surgeon when he comes to the states?

garbage_account,
I wish her the best today!

Well the update everyone is that my honey got his visa today!!! He was on AP for 2 1/2 months. Thanks everyone for the support.
-
My Baby got the visa today after 2 1/2 months of AP, 2 home visits, full fingerprinting and 4 trips to the embassy. It hasn't hit me yet.
-
Dear garbage_account,
Wow - well cool for the both of you - how interesting that your fiance was told to go in only on a wed. My fiance was told to go in tomorrow - Mon. Last week he had his fingerprinting done and they also gave him back his passport then. Now that I think about it - when ever they asked him to go to the embassy - for him it was always on a Mon.
I just posted a new thread about the actual issuance date of a visa incase you have any info.
thanks - and let me know on Wed the update!!!
-
Last week my fiance had all of his fingerprints taken. The embassy called to his home on Fri and asked that he come into Georgetown on Mon with his passport to get his K-1 visa. So once again he has a 3 hour trip into the city. Due to various reasons he will not come to the states to just before the 6 months expire on the visa. I have two questions.
1) Is the visa issued on the day that you walk in and pick up the visa or is it already prepared and just placed in the passport? If it issued at time of pick up it would be better for him to delay the pick up by a week or so. Do you think that is a bad thing to do?
2) I know that the visa is good for 6 months. So if he gets it tommorrow Nov 27 and it is stamped Nov 27. Does he need to start his travel to the US by May 27 or within 180 (6 x 30) days of the date of issuance?
-
Cubalovestory, DOS is Dept of State - I think there # is 202-663-1225 and press 1,0,4,3,0
So the very exciting update is that my fiance went to the embassy last week on Mon and then they asked him to come back the next day. On Tues they fingerprinted all of his fingers. Then on Wed they called him on the phone and told him to come back in this Mon coming up. I'm quite sure for the visa - but nothing is nothing till it is in hand. So it has been 2 1/2 months and I think Mon will be the day. He felt better about the length of this process as on one of those days he met someone who was Guyanese as was their fiance who lives in the US and and the embassy is requesting that the Guyanese US citizen also come to the embassy. In another tread a person who was a Guyanese US citizen said that as soon as the fiance went into the embassy for the interview they were told to bring in the US fiance as well and the interview was set for 8 months later - yes I said 8 for the US citizen to go to the embassy and no interview was conducted - just straight to a 221g. Here in this thread garbage-account who is also Guyanese US citizen went with his fiance to the embassy to the interview and is in AP now. So I would say that based upon this thread and others if both the man and woman fiances are Guyanese that Georgetown, Guyana embassy wants both persons to attend the interview to rule out that the individuals are relatives. And everyone of recent going through Georgetown has gone on AP following the interview.

But cshell did they check off AP or Admin review or anything like that on the 221 (g)? It just cannot be a blank 221 ?! or was it?
Thanks!
On page 1 "Section 221g" is marked off. On page 2 under Required Documents "Further Administrative processing" is checked off and that is it. Yes it was blank - they are asking for nothing. Rather they checking on his fingerprints and send people to his home and do whatever else they are doing but not sharing with us. They have not asked for anything. When he had the interview they said two weeks. After the 2 weeks they told us nothing. Then 3 weeks ago they said 2 weeks again and at that 2 week mark they sent someone to the house and we are being patient at the moment waiting for the home and neighbor report to be shared with the embassy. So in a week we will inquire again if we do not hear anything.
-
They took my fiance's passport, did fingerprinting, issued a 221g but did not want any additional info. It has been 2 months of AP and we are still waiting. On 2 different dates they have sent someone to his home to talk to family and/or neigbors. And they do not provide any information when we call to inquire how things are progressing.
-
cshell, have you heard anything new yet? I just heard today that some folks from the embassy paid a visit to my fiancee's house. They spoke to her aunt and a few neighbors. I hope this waiting is almost over and she gets her visa soon.
Well we are in the same boat now! Yes, the same thing happened for my fiance late last week. A man and woman came out to his home and spoke with his sister and some of the neighbors as well. So I would think that we are nearing the end - but still no word - patience is the key. Well that is great that we are both moving forward!
-
Garbage_Account,
Yes, I do hope that all goes quickly for all of us!! Nothing new happening at my end

Lyric,
I haven't read all the posts - but I see that there is discussion of if you should go to Canda or if he should come here. Also health insurance is being discussed. I would like to address US health insurance. Back 5 years ago I was engaged to a lovely man. After we were engaged and before we were married, he was also diagnosed with cancer. He had health insurance that he paid for individually (not through work) and I had health insurance from my employer as an individual. My company also offered family plans. We decided to marry. The same day that we marryed I called to my health insurance carrier told them I was married and changed my plan from individual to family. My husband was covered from the day of our marriage, pre existing condition did not matter as we were married. He made the decision to keep his insurance which was considered "primary" and my insurance became his "secondary". If he was in the hospital at the time of our marriage as an inpatient then my insurance would not of covered him until he was discharged from that hospital visit. I knew all of this as I called to my insurance company and asked specific questions about coverage prior to us marrying. My husband lived for just over 2 years. I loved and supported him as I knew he would of done for me. I was blessed with having him in my life. It was very difficult working, seeing doctors and caring for him. But the strain was reduced as I had support from my employer when I needed to leave early or go late to work due to numerous doctors visits and hospital stays. Insurance - his and mine was never a problem. As I said he was covered with my insurance from the moment we married as he was not within the hospital. But for example, say we married on day 1 of a 4 day hospital stay. His insurance from my company would of began on day 5 - the day after he was discharged. From that day 5 into the future he would of been covered for all the future health care, tests and hospital stays. The pre existing for him only mattered in the fact that there was no existing hospital stay. I hope that this is helpful to you and your fiance as you make the decisions that are best for the both of you for the journey that has been put before you. I wish you both the very best in every way imaginable with much strength, love and faith in each other.

Please keep in mind every consulate operates differently regarding their timelines.
true - but for myself and garbage_account we are at the same embassy with interview dates that were only 2 weeks apart

cshell, I'm in the same boat as you.
My fiance's interview was on 9/25. As in your case, my fiance is also in Guyana and I went through the Vermont Service Center.
I did attend the interview with my fiance and we were each interviewed separately by two different people (so it was total of four distinct interview sessions that lasted over 2.5 hours in total). At the end of all that, they told us that our case was going to be put into a process for additional review. They wouldn't give too much other information even when I questioned them... the interviewer did, however, say that it was neither a rejection nor approval. We also did NOT get any additional forms/letters from them.
They told us that they try to process these things quickly but they didn't know exactly how long it would take. They said hopefully within a week or so they would let us know. I doubted that it would take a week and I was right... it has been almost two weeks. Next week, I'm planning to write to the Embassy in Georgetown to request a status. If they don't provide enough info or if they continually give me the run-around, I'm considering writing to my Congressman (which may not be a bad thing given that elections are in November and congressmen will be itching for votes). But, I also don't want to tick off the embassy and force them into a rejection decision... so it's a fine line to walk.
It does appear that the embassy is conducting some type of investigation because I heard that they called my fiance's job and spoke to her manager... not sure what else they have done in the past week.
Just wanted to let you know that I'm stuck in the same hole as you. If you find out any additional info about this process, feel free to share it here and I will do the same. Good luck to you and your fiance.
WOW - May I ask are you of Guyanese background? I am Italian (not black or Indian in me). They had issue with me as I hadn't provided "civil documents" from my parents - their birth and marriage certificates. I know that if I was of Guyanese background it would of been more of an issue to prove that we weren't relatives.
You certainly made me feel a little better to know that this didn't happen just because I was unable to go to the interview.
Please do let me know if you find out any other forms of investigation that occur. Did they take your fiance passport? At least they had given you a time frame - one week - meaning that they expected it to take a short time. For my fiance they told him 2 weeks and we are now at 3 1/2 weeks. And the Embassy doesn't want to talk to me - they said wait and my fiance will be contact by mail. Based upon my reading past threads and posting I feel that this will be a 5 month wait. That way I will be happily surprised if it takes two months HAHAHA This is all so very crazy!

A 221(g) is a temporary denial. You also experienced a home visit from an investigator out of the embassy/consulate.
Once they have gotten all the checks done and are satisfied they will contact him to come back to the embassy and finish processing his case. We had 5 months of AP and we had a home field investigation as well and DOS or the embassy would not tell us any updates until they were ready to proceed with our case. Our 221(g) also said after 45 business days to contact them so do not freak out if you are still not processed within that timeframe.
Pray for patience and hopefully your AP will be completed soon.
Mary
Thanks so far folks for all the info
Mary you said that my fiance had what is called a "home investigator" (person just showed up at the house) and asked his mom who was living there. When you said you had a "field investigation" as well - Was that a planned meeting in the home? or did they just show up? And who did they talk with? All the persons living in the home or your husband?

What does SO stand for?
I called to DOS yesterday and they were willing to give me a tiny bit of info. The fingerprints were sent to the DOS, but that is not the hold up rather just the process of the security checks. The person didn't comment on the length that it might still take but acknowledged that yes cases can take many, many months. They felt if the passport was needed back for purposes of work that the embassy should have no difficulty in returning it. When I said that currently my fiance is unemployed and seeking work and may receive a 3-6 month contract on sea they suggested that he stay near. I feel a little bettter knowing that the hold up is security checks but my fiance still has no idea what to do about his work situation. He needs to work, but if he gets a job what happens if the embassy wants him to come it. I WISH they just had the ability to say well at minimum it will be 2 months, but may take up to 5+ or we think it will be decided upon within the next 3 months. Has anyone ever gotten any sense of a time line from DOS?
-
You will need your fiance visa application number like ours was ISLxxxxxxxxx2005, his date of birth and full name.
Yes, NVC told me to call DOS - so that is my call for tomorrow. My fiance # begins with GEO2006XXXXXX for Georgetown. Is that the # you are referring to?
At the moment my fiance is unable to work as a seaman without his visa. Has anyone ever asked for the visa back during AP process.
Has anyone experienced AP after the interview?

What is a CR-1 that you applied for? Also was your husband without his passport the whole time? I just called to FBI Fingerprint Status 304-625-2000 and they haven't received anything, they suggested I contact the National visa center at 603-334-0700. I did and they have no updates on the case, they only had record that the file was sent to the embassy back in July. They didn't know that the interview had occured or that we are in AP (administrative processing).
-
My fiance had his interiew 3 weeks ago along with fingerprinting. They strongly suggested that I attend the interview and I wrote them saying it wasn't possible. I sent all the documents that were needed to the interview with my fiance. After the interview was complete they took his passport and said that they would contact him within 2 weeks.
Additionally, they gave him a form letter with certain items checked off. The checked items stated "Section 221(g) of the immigration and Nationality Act which prohibits the issuance of a visa to anyone whose application does not comply with the provisions of the INA."....and under "Required Documents" they wrote "Further administrative processing." It also says in the letter When we receive the documents we will review your case and contact you with our decision.. If you do not hear from us within 30 days please call the visa enquire at (phone number). In bold text it also reads WARNING: If you fail to take the action requested within one year following visa denial under Section 221(g) of the INA requires that your application be cancelled.
At the interview when they reviewed the paperwork they did not take the (2) DS-157, my letter of Employment, my Statement from the bank (of my accounts and deposits in the past year). My fiance called inquiring if they would like those paper and they said that they have what they needed. Additionally, the day after the interview I wrote the embassy asking the status of the case and if they might like further info from me. They wrote back "Please be informed that this case has been referred for further Administrative Review. New information when available will be communicated to the beneficiary in writing. Regrettably, we are unable to provide an approximate time frame." Today I wrote the embassy again and got the same response. So I tried calling them and still received the same response with no time frame or comment accept that the case is being reviewed.
About a week after the interview a man stopped at my fiance's home (he lives with his mom)and spoke with his mother inquiring who lived in the house. Probably checking up that he wasn't married or had a girlfriend.
So what do we do?? What does this section 221 (g) mean. How long might we wait??

When the embassy sent the initial incorrect visa packet 4 (immigrant visa) it had included the (2) DS-3025, when my fiance picked up the correct visa packet 4 (K-1 visa) I realized that it did not include the form, nor request it to be brought to the embassy for the interview. So I fortunately have it due to the error of the embassy sending the wrong packet 4. I called to Visa Inquiry at 202-663-1225 and the woman told me that since he isn't coming in as an immigrant that he doesn't need to have the DS-3025 in the brown sealed packet. But in all of my reviews of past threads - people show the DS-3025 to the US civil surgeon in the US as part of the fullfillment of AOS.
So needless to say, since we have (2) DS-3025 forms I will ask my fiance to ask the doctor to fill out both and that my fiance keep one and give the other to the embassy if they would like it for the brown envelope.
On a side note the K-1 visa tip sheet that my fiance received was dated as revised 10/17/2005, the one I got email after requesting it from the embassy was dated revised 9/19/2006 (how that could be I do not know since the date hasn't passed) but anyway under financial documents that the petitioner needs to provide - they were different. For the parts that were different my fiance's stated that I needed to provide job letter, pay stub and bank statements. Mine did not. The embassy told me to go by the newer one (mine). So when the tip sheet arrives for what to bring to the embassy be sure that it says K-1 Visa and has a somewhat current revised date.

2 - can you apply for AOS, EAD and AP all at the same time?
