  1. Hello there,

I have filed my I-751 (7/6/15) and already did biometrics (8/7/15). And my GC already expired (9/23/15). And i will be travelling to south east asia next year Feb 2016, am i right to bring along my extension letter, my passport and my expired green card? But I am worried there will be an issue for my expired GC when i come back to States. Should i call the USCIS office regarding my 10 years GC? Or should i wait?

    Thank you very much.

    Elaine

Elaine , i traveled with the extension letter and no problem at the POE whatsoever.you are right , just carry your PP and GC. the officer did not even look at expired gc.

  2. Are you positive? I took that list to refer specifically to my Fiance, the Beneficiary. I've also read several posts online that seem to indicate a U.S. Citizen can have his phone stored at the embassy. I just want to be sure, one way or the other, before committing to a certain set of travel plans. So, not that I doubt you, but are you absolutely positive that list refers to the U.S. Petitioner as well?

the third party security agencies will have you submit the cell phones. no one is allowed a cell phone in the embassy.

  3. Hello

Well one of my friend got robbed his phone and money by a thief with a gun, also the thief told him that he would kill my friend if he got the police.

Someone told me that if my friend goes to the police he can also ask for a kinda special green card but we find that kinda ahrd to believe.. my friend didnt go to the police because his visa is expired for like a month and he is scare about getting deported.

    does anyone knows about it?

    Thank you!

involve a community leader to take him to the police just to be on a safer side.

  4. Thanks for the support guys. i think theres tons of people here on the same boat or should i say the Immigrant ship. i stay in a hamlet in NY state and willing to relocate wherever i get an opportunity....i think VJ should start a job forum too where people can share job opportunities at their places of work.

like i said , if your willing to relocate.look into the places i put for jobs.

  5. I have a couple questions that I can't really get a clear answer to (even after a lot of searching).

    1) Credit report on background check.

I've seen various answers on this. Most of which indicate that there is NOT a credit report done during the background check. But I still haven't found an official confirmation of this on the INS site or elsewhere.

    2) Question about whether you've ever been detained or cited by a law enforcement official (including an immigration officer, etc.).

If someone crossed the border illegally (before they became a legal resident) and was picked up, held for a few hours, then sent back across the border, I'm assuming this means they were detained. But if no fingerprints were taken - and possibly no ID checked, but it might have been - then there's most likely no record in the system. When applying for legal residency, there was no question on the application that specifically referred to such a situation. But the n400 is more in depth with questions like that. So is it advisable to mark YES, a detention happened, or leave it at NO?

Also, if someone got a speeding ticket that was thrown out with a PJC, should that be reported as well? If so, should a driver history be collected from the local DMV - even if it happened more than 20 years ago (and there are no records about the ticket at home)?

These are a couple of the questions/issues that are tripping up completion of the n400 application.

Sorry i am going to counter question you. so they detained someone, did not took pictures or finger prints ? that is unbelievable .

  6. But you did apply for a marriage license ( on a tourist visa?) and then left and came back and married on a later visit. you could not have applied for K 1

Technical that is fraud by your own admission

Not judging you, please do not take any of us wrong here

but you bypassed the system we all went thru legally

you can apply for a marriage license on a tourist visa and that is legal and is not a fraud.

  7. So we are due to remove the conditions on my husbands residency - it became valid on August 29, and his 2-year anniversary is November 27.

Everything seems pretty straightforward except the biometrics, mostly because of our current living situation. We bought an RV and are currently touring around the US, but we are far from our home address (we're currently on the west coat, home address is in Florida). Side note: we filed for his green card while living in NYC, but moved to Florida after. We did register all address changes with USCIS and the address is currently up to date.

What I'm afraid of is getting a biometrics notice saying my husband (the permanent resident) needs to go to the biometrics center designated for FLORIDA, while we are several thousand miles away. We know that if necessary he'll fly out, but can we request to reschedule at another location? I'm not even sure what locations there are, but if I submit it in the next few days, we would probably be somewhere around San Francisco at that time, so we could definitely find a biometrics location there (much more likely than near Jacksonville, FL).

Also, how likely is it that he simply won't be asked to come in for biometrics?

Thank you all in advance. Again, I'm not complaining, and he WILL travel if necessary obviously, just trying to figure out if it's possible to do biometrics in a different place if possible. Thank you!!

you will get the notice on the last registered address that USCIS have and they will instruct him to appear to the local ASC in florida. please have the the notice in hand only than we can talk about rescheduling it.

  8. Hello!

I wanted to share my experience and ask you for an advice. I went for my N400 interview a week ago. IO seemed concerned with age difference between me and my spouse, asked me all sort of questions ( the spouse where we live in, etc.) He asked if I have any pictures with my spouse on my phone ( BUT NEW APPLE update that morning crashed my phone - what a BAD luck - I told him that ).

Then He asked for utility bills, etc. Since interview letter asked for just tax transcripts - i brought them - for last 4 years filed jointly. He just copied W-2 from one of them. I told him unfortunately I did not bring but I have everything and we have join t accounts and I can even log in online and show. He said - you had to prove to us this marriage. Then I passed civics test and he said " we will need mpore documents from you ; basically all I've asked you about". I said - Yes, definitely,

Then I signed some forms that he gave me and then he gave N-652 with "test passed" and "written decision will be mailed".

My online status still says " Interview notice was sent".

I thought of just coming to USCIS office and dropping off all the documents I have.

Should I do that or should I wait for mentioned letter?

Please advise. I am in no rush, but me and my spouse were very excited for this and now = (

Has anybody had the same experience?

He was concerned about your guy's age difference in your naturalization interview ? that is unbelievable

  9. Hang in there. you will get it. i hold a Master in EE and aimed very high(not that it was wrong)but had no network whatsoever.i worked a petty job as a call center supervisor gained valuable experience and great references. got a career job in a year and a half.(i would say that was quite a wait because i live in a hamlet)there is a bag full of jobs throughout the nation.just hang in man as they say 'change is permanent'

you appear condescending arslan and i take offense of this. i am reporting you.

just kidding :joy: ,its same as EE from pak is gonna drive a yellow cab.

That's okay. I mentioned a real fact. In America you have more respect and dignity as a cashier in a grocery store than the treatment you get and discrimination you face at Engineering workplace in India or Pakistan !

chil, i was just pulling your leg.take it easy

  10. I am a mechanical engineer with 10 years of experience , worked for a fortune 500 company at my home country. I moved to the usa almost 2 months ago and been applying for jobs online. I was called for interviews at a couple of places. Both interviews went well and they were impressed. But no call from them for over a month now. Almost getting frustrated with no work . Even small time jobs that I apply dont respond. . .. what can I do. .. its pushing me to a point that I go back .. has this got something to being an immigrant??

There are a lot of jobs in USA. Just start out somewhere. Even working at a fast food restaurant or a grocery store in USA is better than working an Engineering job in India or Pakistan. lol

  11. Yes I am so sorry, again the language failed me, it is license, not the certificate.

We got the license from a previous visit as we were planning to do K1 when we got back (we thought the license would of been a good proof to use that we had every intention to get married after entering USA on K1) but we decided to go for another visit and collect more proof of a real relationship and was going to file for K1 when going back after this visit but instead got married.

So you dont think they will look into when we got our license?

my answers are not that of USCIS, i do not think this will be any problem at all. you are freaking out for something that is not serious, like someone else said ,hire a lawyer. make sure , lawyers can't guarantee anything, a lot people here on this forum know quite a bit. the law is redundant .

    Ma'am,

I am quite confused. How long did you have the license for before this visit where u changed your mind to get married? I believe a marriage license expires after a few months-not more than 90days. Correct me if i am wrong.

Having said that, as some experts have advised, if you cannot solve the puzzle yourself and we are not telling you what you want to hear, pls seek the help of a legal representative-He will be able to sit you down and tell you what is obtainable.

good point unchained. they do expire. do not remember the validity they come with though

  12. We applied for it here in Texas while we visited the last time.

We got married recently with the same marriage cert from previous visit

I am worried if USCIS check when the marriage cert was filed for and will think we had the intent to marry before we travelled to USA (which we did not), is there a possibility USCIS will check when we filed for the marriage cert?

We had absolutely no intention of getting married when we entered USA this time, we were going to go back and file for K1 but got spontaneous and got married. Now worried USCIS will use the filing date from a previous visit against us. But I also read intent alone is not a reason for denial of AOS from VWP.

I think you are confusing marriage license with a marriage certificate. license is something you get prior to getting married and certificate is what you get once you are married.if i got your query right, you mean you had applied for a marriage license while visiting US and got married in the US on a different visit or may be the same visit. i would suggest you to relax. this is very minor and as you just change your personal marriage plans.you should not be worried.you are just taking advantage of this loop hole by not going through longer K1 process but by adjusting status while in US. this is legal.

  13. Thank you. Problem is we applied for our marriage cert when we were there the last time and not this time so I am thinking what are the odds USCIS looks into when we filed for our marriage cert?

We have a very honest reason for this, we were first going to do the K1 route and wanted to use the marriage cert as evidence in our application but then we visited again.

I was afraid to read more in that thread because I was being so bashed by people not understanding that the laws are different in Iceland and by Icelandic laws I am allowed to live whereever I want to as I have full custody.

Also how do I know that a lawyer knows these things and just not saying whatever?

Your question is still not clear,

    1) where did you apply for the marriage cert. ?

    2) If you are married, you cant do K1 with the same partner.

    3) Do not get boggled down if you are not aware of the law. we are all amateurs here and learned by each others experiences.

    4) please post a clear concise question.

  14. Hi all

I was wondering if those who have been fortunate enough to find work in the US could share some tips with us who are anticipating the big move or who are already in the US and trying to find work?

For example, I currently have a good job working in Risk & Compliance for one of the big 4 accountancy firms in London. They have an office in Dallas where I will be moving to, however, I know how difficult it can be to find a job to match your qualifications and experience when you're from abroad. I have a law degree and have also been to law school in London - will this help me in any way when I get to America, or am I essentially going to be starting from scratch? (I assume my studies of UK laws and regulations might not hold any weight once I get to America) And I'm sure there are many others of us out there who have qualifications and experience that they are worried might be void once reaching the US.

    So to pose the questions:

    1. From your experience, are foreign qualifications and/or experience useless in America?
    2. What tips could you recommend for job hunting effectively in the US?
    3. What didn't work for you?
    4. How long did it take you to find work?

    Thank you in advance.

your experience outside the US does count. i hold a masters in engineering from Canada and did petty job to begin with when i migrated here because a) we lived in a little hamlet b) i wanted some kind of income. i was aiming too high to begin with(not that it was wrong)but i had no network. the only thing i did not stop was to hunt for a career job which landed probably a year and a half later.i gained valuable experience from the petty job got some great references that helped me. Networking is the key. Please stick with some staffing agencies. accountancy is a hot field. you will land a good job soon. good luck

  15. Hi there,

my I-130 for both parents just go approved and I am waiting to hear from NVC.

I had to file separate I-130 for each parent and I would have to pay all the fees separately. Their case number is just one number apart.

If I continue the process and do all the documents and pay all the fees at the same time:

    (1) would they get the interview the same day/time with the same officer since they are married?

    (2) Can one parent be refused the visa and the one is approved?

If they both get visas, I would like my mom to come a few months (4-5) before my dad, because my dad will need to take care of some stuffs before he comes here:

    (3) is that possible if they get the visa at the same time? I hear that visa is valid for 6 months.

    (4) or should I delay my father NVC processing (by paying and submitting documents later) to make sure he get a later interview?

    (5) If he gets a later interview at a different date than my mom, can the officer doing the interview hold that against them (especially my mom since she will going without her husband first)?

Sorry, too many questions, any answer you can provide will be extremely helpful!

    Thanks

I am sorry but there cannot be definitive answers for these questions.

  16. Hi,

Wondering if anyone here took their child along to the interview.

I was due to have my N400 interview next Friday, but I've just received a notice in the mail today cancelling that date and rescheduling me for later in October.

This late change has really put the cat among the pigeons re: planning.

For the new date my wife will be out--of-state on business travel so I'll be home alone with a two-year-old. I don't really have much in terms of a support network where I live at present, but while I still hope to figure out someone who could look after my daughter for the day, in a worst-case scenario, would I be able to bring her along?

Please do not take the baby to the interview.i do not know if you can or can not but i absolutely do not want my 2 year old in the interview room, answering all the questions before me :joy: . i hope you will find a babysitter.

  17. Hi,

I'm undergoing removal of conditions now. It's been hectic gathering all the documentation for roc. I'd like to know, how much of the same documentation will I have to keep gathering for naturalization under the three-year rule? I'm specifically asking about documentation to send at the time of application, not the documentation to take for the interview. I want to be prepared ahead of time. The N-400 instructions suggest sending three years worth of tax transcripts or bank statements and other documents. However advice on visa journey seems to be to gather as many documents as you can. Which is it? Recent filers, did you send bank statements from every month for the last three years? Or did you send quarterly or yearly statements?

i do not know about the rest. i did not send any non governmental financial information with my N400. my attorney advised me to take it along on the interview. i only sent 3 years of tax returns , child BC , some pictures , entry/exit stamps to the US.i will surely take the secondary evidence like joint assets etc on the interview.

  18. Anyone else had their interview on around Aug 20th and is still waiting on oath letter? I am getting a bit frustrated. I have been recommended for approval and It's going on 6 weeks and my status is still saying "interview scheduled". Please let me know if we're in the same situation

that is discouraging :ranting: , where did you have your interview ? Don't worry about the online status.it works for some and not . keep looking for the mail. keep us posted.

P.S - USCIS online notification system is mediocre.
