  1. I'm trying to figure out how to break it to my husband that he'll have to do biometrics -- he can't even deal with a visit to the DMV without kicking up a stink about bureaucracy. I can only wonder what choice words will be uttered when I explain there is more to the process than signing his name on the I-751.

Gulp! 10 days until the window opens for us!

LOL!!! That is hilarious! My husband is the same! He was like why do they need Another biometrics?? Not to mention why he has to take another test to get a US license when he has been driving 17 years and the test in England is about 100 times harder than the US one...

  2. Cool! Thanks! Everything was such a stress last time waiting for things to come through so that my hubby could work that this time it's a relief that he doesn't have to stop working. Right now he is out of a job as is and is hoping to get a new job soon and it's been really tough on one salary so I didn't want him to lose a job again when he gets one. What a relief! :)

I know they say file 90 days in advance to 2yrGC expiration as a precaution. How long does it usually take to get the 10 yr green card from mailing application to getting approved and in the mail? What happens if they don't get it until after the 2yr has expired? Does that mean the PR has to stop working??

I just know that as long as you have proof that you are filing for the 10yr even after the expiration of the 2yr you can continue living in the US (cause that would be just stupid to say they had to leave...).

    Thanks!

Hi BlueRain! As I understand it, the notice you get that your I-751 has been accepted includes language extending the Conditional Green Card for 1 year from either that notice date or the date on the green card. Haven't seen one yet since still waiting for the final piece of our puzzle to send off our package, but you keep the notice with the green card at all times until approval and the 10 year card is received. If processing the I-751 takes longer than a year, you do an InfoPass at your local USCIS office request that your passport get stamped with the I-551. The PR does not need to stop working.

  4. It does say all children on the form. I would put any children born from both of you together but not the children from the previous marriage. obviously they wouldn't have an A# as they are a US Citizen which you can put under the address/immigration status. If you take it from the fact that the Non USC/PR is filling out the form they are asking for their children. If they have no bio/adopted kids than they put None, if they had a child with the USC they enter that in. If they had a child previous to the USC marriage and they immigrated too, they include that one.

  5. Hello again! We're back! Getting my forms together as well! I am quite relieved that this process seems to be a lot easier than the rest since they have most of the info from the K1 and AOS. We need to send our forms about May 23 (Aug 23 expiration). We received a reminder letter in the mail. It got us all excited that we won't have to really worry about anything for the next 10 years after filing for Removal of Conditions (although my husband is planning to file for citizenship in the next few years well before the 10 yr expiration).

Wondering if joint accounts/loans/vacation info/bills/taxes will suffice as we don't have a joint mortgage or lease as my parents own the house we are living in and they are on the mortgage...

Anyone else wanna say a thank God they are not asking for financial forms this time!

  6. My husband is a PR (still conditional) and we have been married just over a year. My daughters bio father has never been a part of our lives and he even has relinquished rights leaving her technically with no legal father. My husband loves her so much and she loves her daddy as well. :) He would love to adopt her and make her legally his daughter. Is it possible for him, being a PR, to adopt her or does he have to wait to get his 10 yr GC or become a citizen. He is planning on becoming a US Citizen as soon as he is able but that is still a ways away.

    Thanks!

  7. So that's where the Sproose Goose is now! I remember seeing it when I was a kid when it was in a hangar next to the Queen Mary (In Long Beach?? or wherever in Cali)

I may have to do Snoqualmie as I haven't even taken my hubby yet!

Hey no problem if you aren't a Brit. :)

Thanks for all the input guys. It's been a while since I had visitors outside Washington. When my ma in law came it was easy as she loves animals so we took her to the zoo and she was a bit more in shape than her husband so we could go more places.

Too bad it's $400 but I could have let him take a half hour ride in Bomber plane at the Museum of Flight while he was here.

May just have to extend our trip out to Lake Chelan a few more days...

  8. Ok this is about the USCIS Cali but I am putting it in Off Topic as it isn't really that important.

I just wanted to say I was in Anaheim on a bus and being driven to the Disneyland Hotel and the driver took a weird route and BAM! there was the USCIS building. I yelled it on the bus excitedly "Hey Look its USCIS!" and something about going there, talking to my hubby of course, and the Hispanic busdriver looked at me weird in the mirror and I kinda added rambling on telling my mom (while sitting next to my brit hubby) that that is where I think we sent all our paperwork so the busdriver didn't think I was being rude and saying to him Look USCIS! thinking he was illegal or something...(since a lot of Cali tourist probably think any Hispanic person in Cali came in illegally when the guy that was driving the bus is probably like 3 generations american or something)

So that was my slightly embarrasing moment...

  9. In WA we get CBUT (canadian channel) and Coronation Street is on weekday nights. They are about a year behind.

BBCAmerica is great and if you have Comcast OnDemand sometimes they will air other shows for free. Mainly Office, Torchwood, and soon the new Robin Hood season 2.

We found a site where you can get delayed or live streaming online and watch most UK channels. I think it's $49 a month.

Been addicted to NetFlix recently as well. They have tons of old (& newer) brit tv shows & movies that are on dvd that you can select to send to you OR watch them online. $8.99 gets you unlimited dvd's per month (1 at a time) and unlimited select shows/movies online. I have been watching Red Dwarf, Little Britain, & The Office online.

  10. Any suggestions on where to take my retired RAF Father In Law when he comes to visit. Obviously we are going to the Museum of Flight. Any other lesser known interests or big hits with the visiting Brit relatives that you would like to share with me?

    Thanks!

  11. My hubby PJC1973 aka Pete lives in Snohomish WA! (with me of course)

Hey anyone else in WA, any suggestions on where to take my father in law to visit when he comes to visit? He is retired RAF and the only thing i can think of is the Museum of Flight so far. I may post this as a seperate thread.

  12. Not sure if anyone mentioned this but Cost Plus World Market sells them. Also if you want an alternative, Bush's makes a Vegetarian variety of baked beans that my husband says are even Better than Heinz...

  13. Nope. My husband was one of the lucky ones and got his greencard back in September. I get the posting emails every once in a while so I can check up on the likes of those May filers that have yet to get those and cheer them on. :) Glad to see that Bora Bora FINALLY got theirs! Woo hoo! Now it's you Winterr & Maria. Anyone else?

    Here's your cheering section:

    :dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance:

Woo hoo! Just realized Silke and us got married on the same day! Hooray for April 27!

  14. lol found this post from 2006 (guess I sort of answered my own question) but I thought I would tag it on so that if other people are curious.

Also wanted to know if anyone knows if you have to report foreign pay from before we got married in the US? He only worked in the UK for about 3 months (2007) and already sent off the form to the UK saying he is no longer earning money in the UK (their tax form I guess). I assume we only have to report to the IRS what he has earned ONLY in the US correct??

  15. I know taxes vary per state but I figure the overall is exactly the same. I am in WA so we have only Federal (no state).

Do you file taxes exactly like you would for anyone else? So instead of the USC filing single, now they will be filing Married Filing Jointly (or however someone wants to do it). You just enter the PR's w-2 and SS# and walla! ?? (obviously with the items in between). But basically the overall jist is as if a person who has never worked before (in this case, the US) and is now working (only since 2007) and filing taxes for the first time? Nothing special or different for Permanant Residents?

As a note: My husband only worked AFTER he received his greencard if that makes any difference.
