What airline did you fly? why did check in take longer?

We are flying to Cozumel out of DFW in two weeks on American. Curious if AA would be picky on the required documents.

We flew Spirit to get there and Sun Country coming back. The momentary delay in check-in was because the person at the counter wasn't sure what to put in their system as far as the expiry date. Each time, the person at the counter had to get their supervisor and ask for help, but the supervisors knew what to do.

Did you see what else I posted?

US Residents: If your United States visa stamped on your passport already expired but you have an official document proving your legal status in USA, you must apply for a Mexican visa (I-797 A Forms, Advance Parole Forms, I-20 OR DS-2019 Forms won’t be accepted to entering Mexico), unless you have a valid Visa for any of the countries listed above (Canada, Japan, United Kingdom or Schengen area).

We just made it back from Mexico tonight. Flew out of DFW, no issue. Checking into the airline took slightly longer. No problem at border in Cancun. No problems flying back to the states either. Huge sigh of relief. NO VISA NECESSARY.

    • With the purpose of facilitating and promoting travel to Mexico, effective May 2016 all those foreign nationals, regardless of their nationality, visiting Mexico for tourism, business or transit are NOT required to obtain a Mexican visa IF they hold a valid (non-expired) Visa or Permanent Residence of any of this countries: United States of America, Canada, Japan, United Kingdom or Schengen area (European Union).

But I am a valid Permanent Resident of the US. The extension letter proves so.

I wish you would take a look around because then you would see that this is often asked question. Yes, you can go and visit abroad while on the extension letter. Just make sure you book the tickets in your passport name and not the name of your green card.

But specifically, will Mexico accept the extension letter for entrance into the country? We fly to Mexico this Tuesday and I am scared to death to be turned away once we get into Mexico.

According to the April 2018 filers thread.

He will be able to work. He can not however, try to get another job because he would need his green card/NOA Extension letter for a new I-9.  He will not be able to leave the country tho, as there is no extension letter.

Technically it's his green card that expires. In the system, he is technically a legal permanent resident until USCIS revokes that status. The green card is just proof of the legal status.

Thanks so much! That gives me some peace of mind.

  6. Thank you for responding so quickly! I actually just called and i found the number on your timeline, so thank you for posting that - very helpful. I managed to get through to an actual person after pressing several numbers eventually I just selected the option to report a problem and a very helpful gentleman was on the other end of the line. He assured me that I should be hearing from them shortly, but I will certainly hear from them in June if not May. He said nothing was listed for an RFE on my account anyway. So fingers crossed.

No RFE's or anything in the mail - I have been checking so much that I even go on Sunday's and then realise it's Sunday :(

I'm sure its the same for everyone else, but I am starting to go coo coo waiting for this employment card! I have started fostering animals to help pass the time - I'd also like to make a point to everyone on here ( SO NOT VISA RELATED ) BUT if you are looking to do something with your time, it is currently kitten season and MANY shelters will be looking for fosters otherwise unfortunately many will be euthanized. Just thought I'd let everyone know that it's an option, just in case!

We have practically the same timeline and we haven't received any additional information either. When I check the status online, it still says "fingerprint fee received." His bio appointment was April 21st. My husband is so bored and ready to work, and lord knows we could use the extra income. I will give them a call Monday.

Hats off to you for fostering and encouraging others to do so as well! That is such a wonderful idea to help fill the time and take your mind off of things.

  7. Hi! I'm brand new here but I have lurked for awhile. Please help me as I am a virtual baby to this whole process.

Here's the story....I am female from the US and my fiance is from Tunisia. We meet all of the qualifications for the K1 visa, so no problems with that.

I just sent my completed paperwork to a visa assistance company and got confirmation that they received it. I think that was August 3rd or so.

Here is the issue. My fiance is living in Tunisia and just this past Friday has fractured his shoulder in a freak accident. He also fractured his other shoulder in a car accident a year ago. On top of that, Kairouan, Tunisia has been having daily power outages causing him to suffer from extreme heat on a daily basis. sidenote: I have become physically ill since this latest fracture. I have nausea/vomiting/diarrhea which affects my daily functioning. In other words, I am just sick about him being hurt over there with no help and in that terrible heat.
