  1. Hello,

My interview is on Jan.11 at US Embassy in Ankara/Turkey.

all my docs are ready to be sent in to the embassy as we are instructed to do so at least 15 days prior to the interview date. However, when I went to the post office that I have chosen, they said they cannot accept my docs since I should have some kind of courier-in authorization certificate which is produced by the website where you schedule your appointment on the system. There is no such thing in my account. I wrote to the embassy and got no replies. I called the service center several times and they tell me to contact embassy cause they don't do it.

What's this certificate? How can I get it? How can I send my d*** docs?

    thank you

However, when I went to the PTT office that I have chosen, they said they cannot accept my docs since I should have some kind of courier-in authorization certificate which is produced by the CSC on the system. 3. In my case, my son has his own passport, he's not registered on my passport. While getting a passport, both parents apply together and already declare their consent for each other that the child can travel along with one of the parents so immigration officers do not ask for an additional consent from the non-travelling parent. Again, in my case, I could apply on my own for my son's passport. Since I have the full custody which means the court granted that consent on behalf of my ex and he approved, I just showed the paperwork and it was okay.

On the other hand, my son traveled with my ex internationally a few times and he was asked to show my consent. I even remember receiving a call from immigration office in Munich airport for asking me if I knew the situation. Immigration officers knows these all and if it is not legal, they will ask.

  4. If you have the full custody of the child, you may not required to present a consent letter from the bio-father/mother. Full custody gives you the right to decide solemnly on where the kids will live.

If your ex has the full custody or you two have joint custody, you will need her/his permission so consent letter will be required.

but that's true that some US embassies in some countries certainly requires this while some never asks. If it's easy for you to get such letter from the ex, I say get it. you may need it in the future if not now.

My son has German passport through my ex and I'm Turkish. We have been travelling internationally a lot with my son and have never been asked for any kind of permission/consent from his father. But I still got a letter of consent from his father and I always carry it with me along with the custody papers although I've never had to show it to anyone at airports inbound or outbund.

  5. Thank you so much about all these answers but i just cant stop being confused... When i see the Turkey timeline here there are people got their marriage visa in 4 5 months so it just gets me confused.. Btw did u apply for K1?

I wouldn't take the timelines here as the only reference. Number of people here are very limited comparing to real number of people who applies for spousal or fiance visas. so the statistics are not that reliable or I may say not applicable for the most. Besides, every case is different. some takes longer, some shorter. Mine took 4 months to get approved (yes, K1) while timelines here was showing less than a month of waiting period. Go figure. I have seen many people stuck in USCIS for 14 months or more and people who got approved in 4-5 days.

If you wanna talk about this more, send me a message and I can explain you more in Turkish :)

  6. Thanks for the info! The reason we dont apply for a K1 visa is because we want to have a Turkish wedding with my family and stuff...if we get a K1 visa we will not be able to have a wedding how we want it...and he may get an extension for staying here until October. Do you know anything about the DCF in here that they can do it since he is in the military? Thank you so much again..

DCF is not possible, sorry :(

Ahh, the families...I can't comment on that. That's up to you.

Once you get married and send your docs&forms to USCIS Chicago Lockbox, be ready to wait around 1 year to get it all finalized. By the way, that wouldn't hurt to ask if they can expedite your case or not. No one can guarantee if they will accept or not. Just try. If they don't accept it, he may leave and you may follow later.

My experience is that being active duty military doesn't help much on its own. Actually it takes way much longer to pass thru security clearances as a spouse of a military member. Well, it's what happened to me. Every case is different.

    Good luck!

  7. I ve seen plenty of cases completed in 150-200 days (Turkey timeline) plus i ve seen plenty of expedites that military people had when they werent getting deployed. How is that possible than?

I guess your are confused about being deployed. he needs to have orders for "Permanent Station Change" or deployment (temporary station) overseas (outside of the US) to be eligible for expedite option. He's now deployed in Turkey and he'll be back to his station in the US in May.

  8. hey,

why don't you guys just apply for K1? it would be completed in about 4-5 months, most def until May. Then, you would leave with him and get married in the US. easy and smooth

Expeditions applies when he PSCs to another country other than the US, like if he were going to Germany after Turkey. does that make sense?

  9. You shouldn't send anything until you schedule your interview. One of the required documents is the CSC confirmation page which you can't get until you have paid the visa fee and scheduled your interview. Just collect everything else and have it ready so when they do finally release some interview dates you can send it in.

oh, wow, another door slammed right in the face!

    but, what is Packet 4?

  10. Hi,

What's in Packet 4 or what is actually a Packet 4?

Can I send my documents requested in Packet 3 (actually an email) right away although I don't have an interview date yet? Or should I wait until I'm able to schedule a date (God knows when they open one!)

I'm asking this specifically for Ankara / Turkey.

    Thank you

  11. After the embassy receives your approved petition from the NVC they will send you an email (most people refer to this as packet 3). That email will have a link to instructions on what documents you need to collect and a link to a website where you can schedule your interview. They do not want you to schedule anything before receiving that email indicating it is ok to do so...

thanks for the explanation. I'm freaking out constantly since we had almost every road block so far. it's really beyond being frustrating!

Few weeks ago, people could schedule an interview for only December and now there are no avaliable dates. How nice...nah, it's so aggravating :(

  12. It's just an email from the embassy acknowledging that they received your petition with instructions of how to schedule your interview and what supporting documents you need to collect. Everything is accessible online, but it says not to book an interview until instructed to do so in that email...

but after getting packet 3, you are good to book, you cannot book before you receive packet 3, right? or will they send another instruction to book? I'm confused!

  13. Hi,

While filling the form DS160 for a K2, what should we choose for the below question?

Technically, there wasn't a petition directly for the child but he was included in the I-129F which was filed on behalf of me as his mother. I'm confused. Any ideas?

Has anyone ever filed an immigrant petition on your behalf with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services?

    Thanks

    Jen

  14. Hi all,

Our case is approved by uscis on 9/11 and it should be in nvc soon. as soon as I get the case number, I want to start filling up the forms and sending out the docs to the embassy. US Emb.Ankara requires to receive docs at least 15 days prior to the appointment.

Is scheduling an interview appointment possible before embassy receives the case from NVC? Can I fill up DS160 before they receive my case in hand?

    thanks

  15. You may be asked at the interview for a letter from the child's father allowing his son to immigrate to the US. Likely the last thing the US government would like to do is be involved in an international child custody battle. Gild the lily, and get the notarized letter.

My wife was in a similar situation, sole custody of the child. She obtained a notarized letter from the father, presented it at the interview, had no issues, the son's visa was issued. My stepson is now a senior at the University of Washington.

Good luck on your immigration issue.

It sounds really unlogical to me that they may ask for gis permission although he has no rights on my son's custody. Sole custody means that I have all the rights to decide solely, without asking the biofather, on where my son will live. Law gives me this power to do so, then what? If it is the visitation schedule, it is totally between me and the father and Turkish courts can give a decision about this. So why does us embassy ask for the consent? Don't they recognize the court order of custody?

That totally doesn't make sense to me.

  16. Hi,

My fiance petitioned I-129F for me and we're approved on 9/11. I'm the beneficiary and have a 5 years old son. I've been divorced from his bio father since he was 2. Court granted the sole custody to me and arranged a visitation schedule for the father. Since the divorce, we've never obeyed the visitation schedule cause it wasn't an issue for us, he came and saw him whenever he wanted.

I'll take my son with me to the US and I was wondering if anyone in a similar situation could advise me : Although I have the sole custody, does OP still ask for bio father's affidavit of consent?

I told my ex that we would move to the US and he seems okay with it but when it comes to sign some papers about this, he seems to be not willing.

My ex was German and my son has dual citizenship, both German and Turkish. He has his own German passport. I remember when I applied for a new passport for him, I went to German Consulate to make the application on my own and they didn't even ask for his father when they saw the divorce decree. I don't have German citizenship, btw. Plus, I have traveled with my son to many countries and no one at any country / no immigration officer asked me nothing! We, me and my son, have traveled freely with our own passports.

    any advice is much appreciated...

    thanks
