Just posting the last comment on my process:

    • December 2, 2018 submitted application on-line.  Estimated Completion Time: 14 months or March 2020.
    • December 8, 2018 received notice on USCIS that Biometrics scheduled , date not yet shown.
    • December 10, 2018 saw in 'Documents' section of USCIS that Bio scheduled for  28 December 2018.
    • December 13, 2018 did a walk-in to the scheduled service center, and they did the appointment on the spot. New completion time reads 13 months to February 2020.
    • May 10, 2019 - received notification that interview has been scheduled. Date for the interview is Jun 12th, 2019. Completion time reads 9 months to February 2020.
    • June 12, 2019 - Passed the Interview. Waiting for Oath Ceremony Date. Estimated Wait Time: 6 months per the online portal.
    • June 17, 2019 - Oath Ceremony Scheduled to July 9th, 2019. Wait Time: 5 months per the online portal.
    • July 9th, 2019 - Oath Ceremony Done, Naturalization complete. Total time was 220 days or 7 months and 8 days. Almost half the initial estimated time.

Does anyone know if there is any guidance on next steps as a citizen?

Passport?  Register to Vote? Wait for your first Jury Duty call ;)?  Congrats.

When I do a search by zip code, it gives me the center I went to for the I-751, near O’hare.

Good question, maybe Burbank is not as busy as the Norridge location. In any case, if you don't have a car, the cheapest way yet not too painful to get to Burbank from Loop probably take the orange line to Midway and Uber over there.

  4. 7 minutes ago, FGr said:

Just got my biometrics appointment letter.  The USCIS center is in Burbank, IL which is insanely far from where I am located. I live in the city (north of the Loop) and don’t have a car (don’t have the need for one).

For my I-751, I had to go to a center near O’hare. Not super close either but at least easily accessible with the blue line. I assumed I would be sent to the same one. I just don’t understand how they would schedule me so far away although there are centers that are closer.

Is Burbank even safe? I don’t know that area at all.

For those living in the city, where did you get your biometrics done?

Basically the location of the application service center is determine by your zip code.

    https://egov.uscis.gov/office-locator/#/asc

this is only for biometric, everything else will be at the 101 Ida B Wells(Congress Parkway) location

Hey Guys/Gals, looking for some advice.  I have my interview next week and will be carrying the following

    1. Checking and Savings account statements for the past 6 months

    2. Utility (Water/Electric) bills for the past 6 months

    3. 2018 Tax returns

    4. Credit card statements for the past 6 months

    5. Phone bills for the past 6 months

    6. My Passport,GC and my spouses US passport

    7. Marriage certificate and birth certificate of spouse

Is there anything else I have missed ?

We just brought whatever the interview letter stated to bring (interview letter, My original Naturalization certificate, original marriage certificate, our son birth certificate, her passport, a print out of the application plus 2018 tax transcript).  The items you listed should be fine.

I live in Chicagoland. My IO was a junior so was not able to approve himself, thus the delay in being approved. But since the approval nothing has moved.

That is strange, I just took a peek at your timeline and I can't see why there is a hold up after your N400 approval since your I751 is approved long ago.  Maybe give them a call to see what happened? But then again they might just tell you their standard 6mo wait time ( which I also saw in my wife account when the status changed from interview scheduled to approval)

I guess we have been very lucky this whole immigration process from applying CR1 to N400. Everything is turning like clockwork aside from paying the extra i90 fee when my wife lost her CR1 card. Maybe it is a blessing that we didn't jump the gun and file our n400 until we received the physical IR1 card after the i751 is approved.

Is anyone else waiting to be scheduled for the oath ceremony?

I was interviewed on June 14th and approved on June 22nd, but since then my online account still shows "We approved your application. We will mail you a letter when we schedule your naturalization ceremony".

My wife went extremely quick interviewed on the 9th and pass, status changed to approve in 30 min after the interview, then get the oath ceremony date next day. Are you living in Chicagoland area? Or downstate IL?

That's awesome, congrats @mobilebucky What questions was she asked ? What does the online status say now ? When is your oath ceremony ?

Did you get your oath ceremony date @ordjnb ?

Sorry to hear that @Lulu14 is your I-751 pending ? I wonder if that is the reason why

My wife told me name one of the war in 1900s. Then she doesn't remember the rest. She did say the IO pepper her with questions one after another. But she got the first 6 rights and stopped. For reading and writing, it was who was the first president.

Basically the status changed to approve then waiting to schedule Oath ceremonies 30minutes after the interview. 24 hrs later the oath ceremony was scheduled. It looks like they scheduled the oath on 7/29. Just saw the letter in my.uscis.com posted yesterday.

    Hi everyone!

I filed online for N-400 a few days ago.

For those of you who have a scheduled interview, when did you apply? The USCIS website is giving me an expected case completion time in June 2020 (11 months), just wondering if this looks pretty accurate. It took me 19 months to get my 10-year green card (no RFE or anything).

Also, for those who have had their Oath ceremony, how long did you have to wait for a date after the interview?

    Thanks!

If you go to the US Citizenship timeline page and filter by local office ( in our case Chicago) and sort by interview date, it will give you pretty good ideas how long the N400 process took from filing to interview. https://www.visajourney.com/timeline/citlist.php?op6=All&op7=Chicago+IL&op1=6&op2=&op4=1&op5=5%2C10%2C11&cfl=

Any other Chicago filers from December 2018 or January 2019 have their interviews scheduled ? I'm a January 11 filer and am still waiting !

My wife just got notified 5/31 interview is schedule, the letter show up in myUSCIS account and scheduled on 7/9.  We filed on 12/28/2018 same day she received her physical 10 yr GC.

  12. A copy of the green card will only get you start the N400 application process. But don't you need your physical green card during interview and turn in your green card during the Oath of ceremony?   Unless there is an I90 application record in the system to show for, I am not sure they will let you go in the interview.  I just don't think you can bypass the I90 fee even if you will never get the physical green card in time for the interview.

Yesterday the case got updated with status "Case Was Approved". VSC , EAC17348.

No RFE, no Interview. Pretty Solid Evidences.

I didn't get that status "You card is being produced" though.

Any guess of how long it usually takes for them to actually print and send the card?

Are they still sending it though USPS registered simple mail? That doesn't require the receiver to sign?

Last time USPS lost my GC for about a month.

Thank you very much. Good luck for all.

For mine, it changed within a day. And yes, just regular USPS mail.  So sign up USPS informed delivery so you can see when the card is coming. https://informeddelivery.usps.com

I wonder, though if the 4 months or so inbetween didn't help matters...if the i-90 was filed as soon as the card was lost instead of several months later, it may have worked out to @mobilebucky's benefit.

Who knows, we didn't look for the green card until we have a trip coming up, that is why the wait.  I am just thinking the original poster timeline is really similar to my wife one that is why I suggest he check with the local office first.

  15. 2 minutes ago, Damara said:

Wow you filed the i90 in Dec '16 and didnt get it before ROC in Sept '17?! Such a shame! You did nothing technically wrong. If someone loses their card (2yr or 10yr) they can file an i90 for a replacement. (You are suppose to) But it seems you got screwed because when they finally got to getting around to your i90 filing your card was expired so they couldnt issue a replacement... Stinks. I dont know if its worth looking into if you can get a refund for the i90 fee? Its a weird situation because you can argue that due to their extra long processing times for the i90 it took so long that your card expired. 9 months ahead of the card expiring is a long time to file for a replacement. You can argue the instructions should state somewhere to NOT file the i90 if you dont have X amount of time left before it expires and if you got a NOA receipt for the i90 include it as proof it was a valid submission when you sent it in. It will probably be a headache to ask for the fees back and a lot of back and forth- but theres a chance you might be successful.

I have that thought ask for refund for a second, but my time is better spend elsewhere. ;)

  16. 1 minute ago, Going through said:

I suppose if the 10-year card is already under production by the time the i-90 request has completed processing they'd have to deny the i-90 since only 1 card can be issued at a time, and they wouldn't want duplicates floating about.  That doesn't mean that i-90s are for replacing 10-year cards only, as you stated, though....seems the timing was bad in your case.  Sucks that you had to eat the fee for it :(

That is why I suggest make the infopass appointment first.  With the slowness on all type of applications, they may just put a stamp on the passport and wait until it is time to file ROC.

  17. 4 minutes ago, Going through said:

Curious where you got that information from?

The USCIS website page for filing the i-90 makes no distinction between having a conditional or 10-year card when determining eligibility for filing for a replacement card.

Well that is the problem, there was literally no information.  That is why I file i90 in the first place.  Only to receive a denied notice from USCIS.

For your info, here is the decision letter, I just took out some personal information.

    Dear XXXXXXX:
Thank you for submitting Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card, to U.S.
Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) under section 264.5 of Title 8, Code of Federal
    Regulations (8 CFR).
On November, 2016, USCIS received your Form I-90. After thorough review of the information
you provided in your application and the documents supporting your application, USCIS has
determined that you are ineligible to be issued a replacement Form I-551, Lawful Permanent Resident
Card. Accordingly, USCIS must deny your Form I-90.

Statement of Facts and Analysis Including Ground(s) for Denial

USCIS records show that you were granted conditional permanent resident status on November 02,
2015 through a qualifying marriage to a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident. Individuals who
are granted conditional resident status through marriage, must file Form I-751, Petition to Remove the
Conditions on Residence, to petition for the removal of those conditions. See 8 CFR 216.4. Filing of
Form I-751 serves to extend conditional permanent resident status, and approval of Form I-751 results
in the creation of a new Form I-551, Permanent Resident Card.
On September, 2017 you filed Form I-751. Your Form I-751 is currently pending with USCIS.
Since the conditions on your permanent residence have not been removed, you are not eligible to
receive a replacement Form I-551, Permanent Resident Card. See 8 CFR 264.5(d).
USCIS will send you a Permanent Resident Card if your Form I-751 is approved. Your expired
conditional Permanent Resident Card along with your I-797 Receipt Notice for Form I-751 serves as
proof of your conditional permanent resident status, until a decision is made on your Form I-751.
You may not appeal this decision. However, if you believe that the denial of your Form I-90 is in
error, you may file a Form I-290B, Notice of Appeal or Motion, within 30 calendar days of the date of
this decision (33 days if you received this notice by mail). If we do not receive a motion to reopen or
    U.S. Department of Homeland Security
    U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services
2200 Potomac Center Dr Stop 2425
    Arlington, VA 20598-2425

reconsider within the required period, this decision will become final. See 8 CFR 103.5 (a)(2).

Hi... I'm incredibly dumb and I lost my wallet somewhere with my green card inside 😭

I have 1 year left to remove the conditions on it. I'm wondering if I can get away with not having the green card and just remove the conditions next year?

Do you have to present your old green card to get the new one? Or just provide copies of the old one?

    Thank you!

My wife lost her CR1 card too, I suggest make an info pass appointment and explain the situation and see what they say.  File I90 won't help as that is for replacing lost 10 yr green card.  I made that mistake filing the I90 and pay another ($455+$85 for Biometric) and end up getting denied because by the time they review my case, I already filed my I-751 ROC (wife lost her card sometime around summer 2016, filed I90 Dec 2016, filed I751 in Sept 17, USCIS denied the I90 application on Oct 17) .  If you need to go out of the country in the mean time, just make an info pass appointment and have them give you a temporary 6 months stamp and renew it every 6 months until you get your IR-1 card.  She finally got her IR-1 card couple weeks ago.  In between, we made info pass appointment 3 times to renew her I-551 stamp in her passport.  The only other bad thing is every time when going through immigration at the airport, the IO will send us to a separate room for secondary verification.  Not a big deal, just sit in the room for an extra hour at the airport.

    Hey everyone,

I don't want to start a whole new thread, so just wondering if someone can let me know if filing an N400 is mandatory or once i get my 10 year green card I can just keep renewing it every 10 years?

I can't find an answer online .. maybe someone here knows? Sorry if its a stupid question!

    Thanks :)!

like someone already mentioned, it is not mandatory, you can renew GC every 10 year and I am sure the fee will go up next time around.  In addition to not able to vote and apply for federal government jobs, you may risk deportation if you commit any crime even misdemeanor ones.
