  1. It could possibly delay the process depending on how busy the field offices are.

Getting the "Case ready for Interview" update generally means that your files are already with the local field office in charge for your county. And since you'll be moving, the case will likely be transferred to another field office since the Oakland seems to be roughly 4 hours away from Tahoe City. So that means you could end up at the back of the interview queue of your new field office again. You should definitely give USCIS a call and explain your situation to see if something can be done about this. You don't want to risk having to drive 4 hours for your AOS interview.

Hello everyone! I have a question.. So March 8, our case status updated to "New Card is being produced" then  on May 11th, its again updated to "New Card was mailed to me".

Yesterday, March 13, I received the approval lettet on the mail but I didn't receive the card yet. is that normal? 😁 I was expecting approval letter with the cars.

Expect the card to come sometime early this week. Mine took exactly 2 business days after the card was mailed but there wasn't a weekend in between.

Hi everyone. So I was just trying to check processing times at USCIS. On the their website, I selected National Benefits Center because our case starts with MSC. But I-485s are not even listed on this page. So where am I supposed to look? Nothing has moved with our case since February 27th. I have no idea where our case is or even if someone has it. Is there any way to inquire about this? I know we can submit an e-request, but I'd rather talk to someone over the phone. He has is EAD and got that really quickly, but NOTHING whatsoever about the green card. I know we're all really frustrated. Any advice?

It's time to put your frustration to the side because you may not hear anything for another 3-6 months roughly.

You actually can't submit an e-request either. The soonest you can inquire about the I-485 is 6 months after the date USCIS received the paperwork, and even then you'll most likely just get the standard answer of "your case is still within normal processing times" or "we're experiencing some delays and expect an answer within 6 months". All you can do is wait and hope for the best.

Really? I've seen many people posted that it would take forever for you to receive your GC if your case is transferred to the CSC instead of NBC. I just felt strange and scared at the same time to know that my case had been transferred to another location.

Sadly I have read the same things about AOS applications at the CSC. What visa are you adjsusting from? I thought they generally only transfer cases to other service centers (not field offices( that might be eligible for the interview waiver, but I could be wrong.

Am I the only one feeling discouraged again by this entire immigration process after filing AOS? My husband is now working and happy to be doing so but he wants to have his green card instead of playing a waiting game for approval. I am discouraged because a two year delay in the GC delays when he can become a citizen and we can put this process behind us. Also, we will want to petition for his mother once he has citizenship since a visitor visa is near impossible from Dominican Republic. It just seems like our life will revolve around USCIS for the next 3-6 years. I wish there was a more efficient and expeditious process for US immigration.

If you're already feeling discouraged now, maybe it's best for you to ditch VJ and just continue living your new life with your husband without thinking much about the process.

Nobody can control anything while dealing with USCIS and all of our hands are tied. Yes, USCIS will be a big part of your life for the next 3-6 years until he becomes a US citizen but that doesn't mean that everything is always about USCIS. As much as I understand that you guys want to petition his family members, there is nothing you can do to speed up this process so just embrace the time together and make the best out of the time until the time comes and he can apply for US citizenship.

You were right !! I just called again and the lady gave me the fax and attn number. She also told me I should send the evidence along with the notice but since I haven't got an email it's not possible... How did you sent yours ? Did you just wrote the attn number on your evidence or did you use a separate piece of paper ?

    Told ya!

I did not fax the notice because to this day I still haven't gotten it. I did write my full name, case number, expedite referral number and of course the attention number on the top left of the cover letter along with the job offer stating salary, benefits and start date.

  6. Sometimes the first round of biometrics weren't good enough so certain people get invited to a second biometrics appointment.

Besides that, there isn't much you can do besides wait. Most of the field offices in Texas looks like they're severely backlogged, but you should probably expect some movement on your case within the next 90 days if you filed in July of 2016.

We received my wife's EAD/AP card combo yesterday. It has her signature under her picture.

When did the status say the card was mailed out? I'm waiting for mine now and it said they mailed it on the 8th.

Edit: So it's not the new one that she got? I was hoping we'd get the new one already. https://www.uscis.gov/green-card/green-card-processes-and-procedures/employment-authorization-document

It is kind of confused, since one can file AOS from working visa to EB2,EB3 (job based greencard), one can file AOS from student visa to EB1 greencard, further more, anyone can file for EB5 greencard..... which are totally from what we are filing for, marriage based greencard.

Yeah I understand what you mean. What VisaJourney is trying to separate is what visa you entered the US from, not what your reasoning for adjusting your status is.

They wasted my full month before sending me my rejected I-765 form just because I forgot to sign the form. Dont ever forget to sign the forms

I'm sorry to hear that. But that post was about an expired form, not a missing signature. Signatures are always a very important part of a document, but it is indeed very unfortunate that it took them a month to reject it.

I guess we were confused "adjust from family based visa" with "adjust to family based green card". I thought family base means " you are applying for AOS because you are a family member (spouse) of a USC". I wouldn't mind to move to the correct section for us, if I can find it........

No worries at all, I was just pointing out that there's still a difference. You were correct that the process is basically the same (besides the I-130 and the medical exam in the US).

The other section is called "Adjustment of Status from Work, Student, & Tourist Visas" and is directly under the one you're currently in on the main forum age. And instead of moving over there, just join their conversation as well! We're all in the same boat trying to achieve the same thing, there's no need to leave us :) .

Well...that makes sense. I should ask someone who's field office is Chicago or Charlotte.

When can you call USCIS again to find out more about your I-485? Or do you have to check your status on a regular basis.

I'm still surprised that I haven't gotten an RFE/RFIE yet...hopefully it will stay that way :D

Nah I probably won't be calling again about my I-485 unless I haven't heard anything after 6 months. I just had the chance to ask about it on the phone so I did it.

Those of us who adjust from tourist or student or even working visa are also family based....we go thought exactly the same process, except we will definitely have an interview because we didn't have one when we entered the country.

No, you're still considered in a different category here on VJ and on the actual visa.

You're not adjusting from a family based visa. You're adjusting from a tourist, student or work visa which are not family based.

These kind of visas aren't supposed to have an immigration intent, whilst visas like the K-1 are specifically intended for people to legally move to the US. Yes, what you're doing is still legal since you're already inside of the United States, but that doesn't change the fact that you're not adjusting from a family based visa. That's why the second section exists for cases like yours. And that's why I thought it's surprising how many non family based applicants are here in this section.

Not that I have anything against it, the more the merrier in my opinion.

Atlanta is pretty fast compared to other cities. I mean, even NYC doesn't look to bad if you look at Chicago and Charlotte...

I will ask someone tomorrow. Maybe they can tell me something, maybe not.

Haha, I highly doubt these numbers are accurate. No one will have to wait over 3 years to get an interview. If that was really the case, some people could have successfully removed conditions and have possibly obtained US citizenship before Chicago locals even had their conditional green cad interview lol.

  13. 3 minutes ago, Becci391 said:

Uhm...I wonder if that's something I can ask tomorrow when I call them for my EAD/AP update or if I have to wait until the 180 days have passed...it's been almost 3 months since I sent the application to USCIS and my status update is still the same. But on the other hand, it could change anytime.

    I'll keep my fingers crossed.

It doesn't hurt to ask. You can call and ask anytime, they just won't put in a service request for you for the I-485. They might be able to tell you something like your case is still at the MSC or it's on the way to Atlanta. But looking at the processing times, Atlanta doesn't seem so bad with an average of 5 months from start to interview.

You should mention that people adjusting from a K1 fiance visa often get a visa waiver. :D

Yeah that's also true. I thought most of us here knew about that already but it's always good to point it out again. I'm hoping that I'll get a waiver, I'd hate having to wait nearly a year for my green card.

When I called about my EAD expedite, I also asked about my I-485 and the representative on the phone told me that my case is still at the MSC and looks like I'll be getting an interview waiver, but he couldn't say for sure. So I'm hoping for the best but I definitely won't be holding my breath lol.

Congrat to both of you!  Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems F1s are being processed faster than K1s...

Not necessarily. I don't know why so many people adjusting from student and tourist visas are here in this section of the forum considering this is intended for people who adjusted from family based ones, but let me explain what the major difference is between those cases and our cases is.

Anyone adjusting from a tourist, student and in some cases work visas are required to have an interview. There is no way around that for them, so they often get the "Ready to be scheduled for interview" status online pretty quickly, even though it could be many months before they even get their interview appointment. The saying that cases with interviews are generally faster is also not entirely true.

Only cases with local offices that aren't backlogged usually get approved within the first 3-5 months. If I will need an interview for example, I probably won't get one until the beginning of 2018 because that's how bad the backlog in New York City is.

So, I called them today regarding my expedite and they told me I have to wait 30 days to get a respond!!! That's their time frame to process any request! It's ridiculous. Even though my case history says "we sent you a respond" and "completed".... By the end of the week my ead is pending over 75 days than I'll call again.

Call again. Whilst the USCIS hotline has been mostly helpful in my personal experience, sometimes they literally go by what the website says online. I had someone who wouldn't give me any info regarding my expedite request and transferred me to a tier 2 officer with a wait time of over 6 hours. So I hung up, called again and spoke to a woman who was able to give me the info I needed. She did have me verify almost all of my info because I called 3 times that day, but it really isn't an issue.

Yes take the Feb 24th and count...is that the same date on your NOA that you received? Look at the box where it says "Receipt date". Do you notice how they messed up your dates though? They said you had your biometrics on March 10th but you had it an entire month later in April...

That's not how it works. To be honest I think it's time to throw that kind of logic out the window when it comes to USCIS right now.

I had my biometrics appointment on the 30th or March and my I-485 status is at "Fingerprint fee received..." since March 3rd. I understand your POV and how you want to apply logic to what's going on, but it's not working. Her timeline isn't that crazy, the only "issue" she had is that she got her notifications way later than she should have.
