  1. @caphoto: did you provide CRA your US address? I never did and they're fine with it. As long as it is a working mailing address it's fine. CRA still has a Canadian address for me as that's where I have mail delivered and it's not my residential address.

I haven't moved to the states yet, but when I called them earlier this year I told them I would be moving back to the UK (for medical and interview) in May for a few months before moving to the states, and they said I had to make sure I updated my address on the system. BUT I will not have a Canadian address, so that is why.

  2. As far as I'm aware, you only have to file Canadian taxes on the income that you received when working in Canada, so you should be fine not to file your taxes for 2015... I think you still need to update your address with the CRA though. I'm Scottish but I moved to Canada half way through 2013, and the CRA told me that I only have to declare the income I made once I entered Canada, but maybe some actual Canadians will be able to help you more ;)

In any case, I always found the CRA were helpful when I called to ask them questions like this, so maybe it's just better giving them a call: +1 800-959-1953

    Good luck!

  3. "You WILL need your police certificate (caused a hassle because it took way longer than they told us it would and he had to reschedule his medical). You will also need proof of vaccinations, passport and the fee. If you are getting further vaccinations there you'll have to reference the instruction sheet off the embassy site to see what their costs are."

Did you guys need your police certificates when you call up to book your medical? I know it says that they are required on the website. I'm in Canada so it's going to take a little while to get my police certificates, but I want to book my medical right away so I have proof of not staying in the states when I visit there next month! I'll be returning to the UK in May.

  4. Hey guys,

We got our NOA1 for K-1 visa on Jan 29th and got approved Feb 5th. My fiance (American) is in the army so I'm pretty sure that's why we got sent to California and approved so quickly!

We had a bit of a different situation and I had to ask you guys on VisaJourney a lot of questions, so thought I'd share some useful info that we found out:

    - My fiance's mailing address is different than his actual address. We put his mailing address as his parents in Utah, and his actual address as his military base in Georgia. There was no problem doing that.

    - I am on a working holiday visa in Canada right now, even though I am from Scotland, so we just put the embassy I'd be applying to as London, UK, even though my address is in Canada. So far, no problems there. We definitely didn't think we'd get an interview before my visa ran out here (May), which is why we put London. So I'm either going to reschedule my interview or fly home early.

    - For proof of relationship, we sent about 8 photographs of us together from over the past 3 years; flight itineraries (Note: NOT boarding passes - who keeps those, anyway?!); a couple of hotel receips and some Skype logs. We highlighted the dates on the itineraries, and annotated them with why we were visiting (eg Christmas, to meet each others family, etc).

    - His full name didn't fit on some of the forms, so we just hand wrote them in. No problem doing that either.

    - I need to get a Canadian Police Certificate as I've been living here for over 6 months. I emailed the embassy in London and they said it was absolutely FINE that I get one before I leave Canada. They weren't so clear on whether I needed one with fingerprints or whether just a name check would do, so I've booked myself an appointment to get both. The only reason I would need to get another police check when I was back in Scotland would be if I got arrested. I know a lot of people spent a ton of money getting a Canadian police check after they left Canada, so if you have a chance to do it before you leave, do it!

    - As my fiance has been deployed twice, we just put his FOB name, country and dates there for his residence over the past 5 years. There was no need to go into specifics. For his current address, we just put his base name and State. Again, no street name or anything was needed.

Anyway, hopefully this helps someone! Thanks for all your help guys :) I'll be starting to get the rest of the docs ready for the interview now! :dancing:

  5. As an update, I contacted the embassy via the form linked by Nick, requesting a date pre x

They got back to me within 24 hours to tell me that my interview date was already scheduled and it was well in advance of that date!

So no real news on a reschedule I'm afraid, it seems as though lead times are short currently though if that is of any use!

Ah ok, well that's good it's a short wait! So it'll be before your US trip then?

  6. Let us know how you get on rescheduling! I think I'm going to have to reschedule mine too, as I'll still be in Canada (on a working holiday visa) probably when I get my interview date. Our application got sent to California on the 27th Jan and I'm here til May  We put the embassy in London instead as we thought there was no way we'd get an interview date before then!

  7. Hi guys,

If this topic has already been covered, please let me know. I can't seem to find any other discussions on it that answer my specific question!

I'm Scottish, but live in Toronto on a Canadian Working Holiday Visa (and have been here for almost 2 years). I'm due to leave here at the beginning of May. We just received our NOA1 and I put the embassy I'd be applying to as London, UK as there's pretty much no chance I'll have an interview here by May!

I'll need to get a Canadian Police Certificate...I'm under the impression that I'll need to get one with fingerprints as I won't be living in Canada anymore when I go for my interview. Is this correct? Also, I was thinking it would be easier to get the police certificate before I leave Canada so it's not as complicated...but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to do that.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Or has anyone gone through the same thing?

    Thanks!

  8. Ok so I am a French and I have been living in Canada for the past 2 and a half years (first with a student visa and now with a temporary work permit). I applied for the K1-visa here in Canada as I knew my work permit would still be valid until I would be interviewed (I had my interview last Monday and got it approved by the way!!! :D So I will be soon with my Fiancée OMGGG!!! :D).

So it is not a problem for you to apply here in Canada if you are legally living here even if it is only on a temporary visa (student visa or work permit or whatever BUT NOT as a tourist of course because that does not work).

The only thing you have to make sure is that your visa will still be valid the date of your interview since they will ask for it this day. Also, they will ask for a copy of this visa when the consulate will receive your case and actually they will not send you the packet 3 until they will get this copy because they need it to update your case so what I can recommend here (I do not know if it works because I did not do it in my case) is to join a copy of your visa with the form I-129F (even though it is not require at this step) cause like that maybe they will not ask for it and will directly update your case when they will receive your application from the NVC and so maybe you will be able to avoid an extra 1 to 2 weeks delay as it happened to me... ;)

If you want more details about my experience do not hesitate ;)

Thanks MontyFlo for your advice! I included a copy of my Canadian visa in the package and I put my embassy as London, UK just in case. If I get an interview before I leave Canada, I'll just fly home earlier (not loving Toronto so don't really care if I have to leave early!) :) Congrats on nearly being with your Fiancee!! That must be a wonderful feeling!

  9. Hi all,

My fiancee is based at Fort Stewart, GA, and has a PO box there. The full address will not fit on the I-129f form when typed, so we were going to put his parents address in Utah (which ALL his mail goes to anyway and his still his registered mailing address). The problem we're coming across, is that in the G-325a form, it asks for the past 5 years of residence address. If we put his Fort Stewart address there, and it's not on the I-129f, is that going to cause issues? Has anyone else been in the same situation and got approved? If so, what did you do?

    Thanks for the help!

  10. The reason why boiler was asking was because an expedite is rarely granted unless the military personnel is deploying. Be prepared to interview in London and that's where you should write.

I know, but thanks for the info!

Your particular situation does sound extra complicated :( but when I visited here on my VWP from the UK (after my NOA2) all they asked to see was my return ticket, no proof of ties to home required, so try not to worry about that too much :)

    Thanks! That's reassuring :)

  11. So what is the basis of the expedite?

Ok, thank you for trying to help, but let's change the question, because I know about the fast track already and don't really need any help on that. BUT...friends of mine went from submitting the I-129F to getting the K-1 in 3 months without any sort of expedited process. I just really need to know whether I can put Canada for the embassy and change it if I leave Canada before it's approved. Does anyone know?

  12. Sounds like you will not be in Canada beyond May so will be interviewing in London.

Possibly...but if we get it fast tracked I will likely still be in Canada. I wasn't sure whether a non-Canadian citizen could still interview in Canada or whether I'd need to go home. Also, if it does take longer than May, is it possible to change the address from Montreal to London?

  13. Hi! I'm a total newbie here, but have been searching the forums to someone in a similar situation and can't find any...I'm just wondering if one of you can help. I'm Scottish, but I'm in Canada on a working holiday visa. This expires in May 2015. We're trying to get our K-1 visa fast tracked as my US fiance is in the military. On the I-129f form, question 36 asks where I will be applying for a visa. Should I put Canada or the UK? Or is it necessary for you to put your country of citizenship? I'm so confused! Has anyone else had this dilemna?

Please let me know if this has been asked anywhere else.

    Thanks!
