I filed for my passport in July and received my passport a week ago. How long did it take you to get your naturalization certificate back? Our mail has been so unreliable lately that I am so afraid it may get lost or misplaced, and it is worth $500. Any experiences you can share will put my mind at ease. Thanks!

***If an admin could move my post to the passport section I'd appreciate it, I did not realize I posted it on the wrong forum***  Thanks

Did you receive your Naturalization certificate back? I am going to apply for passport and have the same worries, what if I don't receive it back.

Hello everyone, became a US citizen back in 2019 however didn't apply for a passport at the time. Will be traveling to my home country in about a month from now. Applied for an US passport mid July and received it within 2 weeks. However haven't gotten my naturalization certificate back yet. I've heard that they usually send them in two different mails. How long did it take you to receive yours after getting your passport? Do I need to carry the original document every time I travel outside the States? Thank you

Did you receive your naturalization certificate back? I am going to apply for passport and worried what if I don't receive NC back.

I'm located in Houston Tx  so ceremony was at the USCIS building:

810 Gears Rd Houston, TX 77067

1.Arived 3o minutes before appt Time
2.Lined up to enter building for security Check
3.Lined up again to confirm appt letter was filled in correctly and signed. Chair number written on appointment letter.
4.Sat down and an officer came by for 2nd check and signing of document and asked to see my Previous EAD's, Green cards etc.
5.Went into the room where Oath was to take place---Each chair has 2 envelops ....1 has a letter from current President congratulating you.
2nd Envelope has oath of allegiance, American Flag and passport Application Form and Voter registration card.
6.Waited to be called and submit Appointment letter and GC's, EAD etc.
7.Explained what the next process was going to be
8.Oath of Allegiance was  recited by Officer
    9.Explained about passport application
10.Waited to be issued certificate of naturalization-----Please confirm before leaving as they van make correction free while onsite. Once you leave its going to  cost you.

since we were 120 people it took about 2 hrs.

I wish I was scheduled at this location. The process at Campbell Education Center takes 4-5 hours, I have heard.

Then plan to arrive at when ever time the letter told you to arrive. Don't be late.

Personally, after waiting many years to be granted the privilege of attending my oath ceremony, I didn't care less about having to wait on the actual day. I even drove up the day before to get an idea of traffic, location, parking etc. Did the same for my interview. But that's me , if I am able to and the situation affords it, I enjoy being self sufficient and not to rely on others.

Congratulations on reaching the final step of your immigration journey.

Thanks. Actually the long wait in lines is quite a nuisance. But you are right, its just one day.

I was there on the 14th. They tell you to get there at 7AM but the ceremony actually starts once the judge arrives at around 10-10:30am. The wait killed the joy and we couldn't get pictures with the judge or anything resembling USCIS. Only people in the military got to take pictures.

You can arrive at 8:30 so you don't have to wait in line for an hour to enter the building.

Overall glad that I'm done with immigration.

Thanks. Is there any confusion in enterance to building? Are there more than one enterances? What is the parking situation?

  6. Has anyone taken oath for naturalization at Campbell Education Center Houston? Can you please share your experience? Heard oath taking at USCIS takes much less time as compared to Campbell Education Center. What is the parking situation and are there more than one entrances in the building and what enterance is used for naturalization ceremony and is it OK to be late as I heard it is a long wait till start of ceremony.

    Thanks for any input.

I am an independent full time student, and I work 30-35 hours a week currently. I will have to cut down my work hours to accommodate clinicals soon, but I have to keep health insurance throughout my program. The cut off for benefits at my employer is 29 hours or less a week. I looked on my states marketplace/affordable health insurance website, and with my income I qualify for a subsidy to reduce my monthly payments. I am eligible under the 5 year rule to file for Naturalization next June, and I am anxious that if I get a health insurance plan that is subsidized (not Medicare/Medicaid), then I will no longer be eligible to naturalize. I haven't been able to find a definitive answer online, or on the USCIS website. Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks!

It is not a public charge. You as LPR are eligible to apply for marketplace insurance. They ask your immigration status in the application. We have been using marketplace from the very first year of our green card.

You applied for N400 (naturalization) and you were approved. You became a U.S. citizen, congratulations! As a naturalized US citizen, your children are now US citizens. If you ever want to get them a certificate for proof of US citizenship, you will need to apply for a N600 NOT N400.

You are right with the hefty fee for the n600. It is expensive but a cheaper alternative is the U.S. passport. The reason to get an N600 for their kids after the parents naturalized is because just like the certificate of naturalization, the certificate of citizenship does NOT expire. US Passport for minors (under 16 years old) are valid for only 5 years.

Just making sure that if you ever want to apply for citizenship proof for your child, you will apply for n600 for them, not n400.

    Again, congratulations!!

Thanks for the information. Also, I am not yet naturalized but have interview next month.

If you want to, you could apply for your child's N600 which is the certificate of citizenship. But, with the uscis backlog, you could be waiting for a while to receive it.

You CAN apply for your child's US passport if you have the documents listed on the passport application. You do not need the certificate of citizenship.

Thanks for the input. It is not only the wait time but heavy fee for N600. It is way more than N400.

If the minor children automatically derive citizenship from parents like you said, do they need any certificate or paperwork for applying passport?

You can apply for naturalization certificate using N600 for your minor child once you become citizen but it costs you more than N400. I think passport can be applied without N600 on the basis of your naturalization certificate but you need to check with passport office about the requirement of supporting documents.

  11. I am also studying about naturalization a lot to see if I qualify under 4y 1d rule. Your case is different and this rule is not applicable on you. You have to overcome the presumption that you abandoned your residence during the period between 6 months and one year. You should have the proof of residence, tax return etc. If you cannot prove you may apply either Oct 3 2022 as your period of absence will be less than 6 months on this date or you can apply in January 2023 ie 90 days prior to completing 5 years. You may read this USCIS site about continuous residence.

There is no "public charge" bar to receiving naturalization in the United States.
