  1. I totally I agree with you, am from UK to, London girl, I miss home sooooo badly, everything you are saying is true.
One thing I can say is hang in there, and complete the citizenships, am in the process of finishing my, I have my oath ceremony on the 8. Wait and get your citizenship and than you guys can move.
we are waiting to see what will happen with the UK now, than we will be moving back.

  2. First of all all I-601 waivers are processed in Nebraska service center, that is where my was processed, it took 6 months. You need to call or join the waiver part in this form and see. At the moment the waiver is been processed @9 to 10 month,

are u in the USA, if so u can't do I-601 inside USA u have to be out of the country unless is 601A you are talking about

  3. you wrongly gave the impression that the children are your biological children, right now your best bet is to be honest and explain the situation or address the situation, the children are going to have to be taking of the application if that is even possible, mind you. let your wife/husband get in touch with Lizz cannon, she is a lawyer , explaining the complexity of the problem, free consultation, than take it from there. this not going to be an easy fixed. all the best to the family.

  4. I was crying when I was reading your post, as I have been feeling the same way, I have been hear since March, no job, nothing. Have made lots of applications, attended lots of interviews. Still nothing. I think is because we are just at home and not working. Back in UK I have a good job working with TFL (transport for London) now am at home, no work, nothing.

I feel like going back to UK. But also I think about my other half, how he will feel if he also move to UK and doesn't have a job and he feels bad because he is the head of the family and should be providing for us.

Take it easy, u have ur driving licence, I don't. That is one accomplishment. Take it easy, am doing the same with my boy

  5. I moved to SF from London and I think London feels more expensive still. :)

I was miserable for the first couple months - having to find a new house and all sorts of #######, missing friends and my old job - but what worked best for me was just getting out. Once I got out I met people and meeting people led me to a job (although I'm freelance now).

We made plans at the weekend, most weekends, and drove out into the countryside and visited all sorts of different places in CA. I also spent a lot of time just out and about walking around, getting to know the neighbourhoods and coffee shops and places to buy tasty snacks. I also kind of made everything a bit like a David Attenborough documentary - sending lots of photos and texts home to people back in the UK to point out all the daft stuff that Americans do. :) Before I was working, I also took on the "home making" role for a while and enjoyed picking out decor and new furniture and arranging all the deliveries and such for that. Stuff that just kept me busy.

Since you've got a little kid, you've got a really good excuse to go visit the museums and science-y silly things or hang out in parks without looking like weirdo, or make friends through a mum-and-baby club or something. Making new friends you can see during the day would probably make a really big difference if you can't work for a while.

I've JUST learned to drive (I'm in my 30s) - I have my test in a couple of weeks. Was adamant that I was never going to learn, but driving an automatic is so bloomin' easy.

Oh, and on the topic of muffins. We are all talking about the same type, right?

I had an American friend once ask me "What do British people call English Muffins?"

    Me: "Uh. English muffins."

Hahaha maybe he/she was expecting a different name, but who are the English people, is British of cause.

That is a nice, am 100% sure you will pass the test. Their theory test is very easy, only took that test my second week in the USA. The difficult part of the driving in Ohio test is going through the corns and revising back. Have been practicing for a month now, I have my on the 08/03.

I have try to take UK from my head and move on, I think is because of the fact that I can't get job and I miss my old job, I was working for TFL as customer service. I have made lots lots and lots of applications, but nothing.

People keep telling me to go into nursing, I don't like blood, nursing is FREE in UK, I never did, why pay all this money for something I don't like. Am still applying, fingers crossed, something comes up.

For now in the afternoon after my driving lessons, I go for a walk with the little one around the block.

Now I can watach all the soups in UK.

  6. Just thought I would share a fun fact.... ASDA is owned by Walmart.... think of the little yellow asterisk or star or whatever you want to call that thing. They both have it!

I am originally from Ohio! If you haven't had it yet you MUST try Graeter's Ice Cream and the ice cream you can get from a UDF (United Dairy Farmer gas station)!!! So goooooooooood! I miss being able to get it easily!

Is funny u just recommended that, this afternoon I was out and about and I got shake from stake and shake. Ooo my, it supposed to be banana shake, all I got was banana mash at the bottom and shake on top, lol. I will definitely have a go in the weekend, am going to look it and see which one will be closed to me.

  7. My wife is from Swindon and she is keeping very busy volunteering as a dog walker at local shelters.

She also found a forum called: britishexpats.com that might help you.

She is not a fan of Walmart, she calls their stuff #######! She likes to cook so I am gaining weight lol

We live just south of Cleveland, Ohio so you guys are not that far from us.

It agree 100% with her. One thing I have noticed with Americans food is that if is Salt is Salt and if is Sugar is Sugar, lots and lost of it, which is very bad for you health, but European countries are not like that. Producing food with lots of sugar or salt.

Is nice to hear from someone who is in Ohio.

Thanks for the link will have a look.

  8. I think you said one muffin costs $4. But you get four muffins for $4. So they cost $1.00 each. That's like £ .76 per muffin.

LOL. Am sure people are reading this all wrong. Muffin in asda come in a pack of 4. That is how I no muffin comes in. Unless u are buying from a coffee shop that u can buy them individually

  9. I've been here a week. I miss the public transport. The only places I can realistically take our kids is the park, dentist and down to the small shopping area which has McDonalds, dollar general, dollar tree and a Chinese restaurant. I can walk down town but there is just restaurants and the legal stuff there like the county clerk etc. I could walk to Kroger or the walmart but not with the kids. I can't get out to the gym because my husband works 12-8 and the girls aren't at school right now. So I can't even go out for a run really. When they are in school it'll be easier for me.

I can't drive either. I've never driven before. I took the girls to the park today, I try to keep busy and not sit on the pc too much. I'm trying to get to know the area I live in. I'm generally happy, although admittedly I can see myself getting bored in the next few weeks. Some parts of Chicago have really good public transport links, you should take advantage of that :)

Same with me, London is very busy compare to Ohio where I live, there is lots you can without depending on car or bus to take you there. Am learning to drive to, I have my exam coming up in 2 weeks time. Hope you enjoy your stay. And u are not finding things hard like I'm.

What is the difference between $3.98 and $4. Are they not the same apart from the pine you will be getting back.

  10. Yes we do, like 10min drive. I have been there few times, but because hubby works night and want to sleep during the day, he prefers to just go to Walmart which is just 3min walk from the house.

Yes I have spoken to him, he said we should give it time and when I start driving I will like it, but if we don't we can always go. I applied for him before I left, so he has a 2 years stay in the UK.

  11. You need to give it more than a year. This is just honest advice from someone who has lived in a new country practically every four years of my life (though some of those moves were back to the UK). But they say it takes time to adjust to a new place. The first year you are just finding your feet. Sussing things out. It only in the second year that you start to really either settle in, or hate the place and that's when you can start making serious decisons.

Right now you're probably just feeling homesick, even if you're not consciously thinking 'I miss home', the comparison is there and when you are feeling homesick the comparison will always be unfavourable.

Get out, explore your area, get to know people. All of that will help so much. And see if you can't afford to get your little one into pre-school. That way you'll meet other Mums and that will help too. They might be like 'oh, don't go to Walmart, there's this cheap place on such and such street...' etc.

Good luck. Keep your chin up.

Thanks for your encouraging world, really means a lot. Am sure it is homesick. Am going to keep myself busy, and try different supermarket and compare prices. Thanks

  12. Thanks everyone for all the moral support. Am in Ohio Columbus. I have moved around before, but in Europe, I gusset because of the euros, it was not that expensive for me.(Amsterdam) mostly is the food am finding expensive, let take something like muffin, which u can get in tesco, asda, etc for £0.85 cent is selling for $4 dolls in walmart.

I will look and see if I can enrolled him in part time, maybe that will be a little cheaper. Last time I asked full time was going to cost $200 a week.

Thanks everyone and enjoy ur new life's

  13. Is been three months since my move to the USA. So far I have my 10 years card, and Ss. In the process of obtaining my driving licence.

Am finding it hard to adjust to life hear, is very difficult compared to London. Hard to get a job, my 2 year can not start nursery or school until he is 5. In London he was attending nursery for the 2 year old, part time.

Am at home 7 days a week. Thing are very expensive compare to London.

How are you guys coping, how did you make the USA your home.

Please help am sooooo stress up, difficult to find jobs.

  14. Sorry to hear he doesn't like the UK. The visa for a spouse for the UK is very expensive, isn't it? My brother brought his wife into the UK and I was surprised at the costs.

It was, all in all we paid $2000, and is only for 2 years. Even the price is up again, after u need to apply for another 2 years again. Am going to try the USA for 1 year if I don't also like it we will move back to UK or back to Amsterdam

  15. Very nice discussion. Hubby is moving to the UK, we have started the process, as I meet all the new requirements. We decided to stay in the UK because am waiting on a waiver to be approved, but is taking longer than normal, as we have a little baby, hubby is missing out a lot in the baby life. Plus with the UK is quicker than the usa, you can opt for faster process and pay extra. The usa for me is too long process than the UK. I never like the USA when I was there,I don't know if because I was not driving, unlike UK you can move around feel, with the bus, train etc. Hubby is in Ohio Columbus. Enjoy your journey everyone and stay bless
