The only issues I have with nuclear is how long they take to build and the potential for disaster due to extreme weather events. Europe was having issues during their heatwaves this summer. Once water going through the plant reaches a certain temperature they have to be shut down. Another issue is that with increase in droughts there might be less water to be used by the plants.

Why?

First of all, welcome back. You were missed.
Are you aware that most trains are powered by electricity? Which is most often generated by diesel.
Which will be changed as the US switches energy source.

Cats kill many, these killl the big ones.
So you would rather put up with air pollution that kills 4.6 million people each year?

Wind generators btw are a major killer of birds
Windmills kills a small fraction compared to all the birds that fly into cell and radio towers. Windmills kills roughly 200 000-300 000 whereas we're talking billions when it comes to cell and radio towers.

So we all need to stop buying. You do realize that China does not produce everything, and the main reason they use coal is because it is economically cheaper.
Yes, we all need to reduce consumption as it increases emissions everywhere and not just in China. Yes, it is economically cheaper. But cheaper is not always better and in this case is horrible. Hopefully China will start to take the climate more seriously.

Coal gasification may still be needed to make some of the materials used in other “green” projects, and of course China is still getting almost 70% of their power from coal.
Like I have said at least 2 times already... China is forced to use coal because of consumers buying stuff from China. All countries need to do their part for the climate.

And we will need a lot more additional substations and electrical switching gear for a full electric world. Coal could still be an option through gasification plants. Base loads are still necessary, and depending on wind or solar to maintain base loads is tenuous.
It’s a Wonderful Life?
Coal can never be an option again and I am glad to see that the US is starting to shut some down.

So how is all that going to be completed in less than 10 years? Windmills are interesting, still a lot of nasty materials needed to make them, and many of them contain sulfur hexafluoride which is even nastier than CO2 from a GHG perspective. I thought hydropower was no longer in vogue due to those nasty dams, and solar needs a lot of nasty stuff as well. China has a big wind farm in the NW that has no customers due to a less than stellar grid. The point is the generating capacity is not there and the grid is lacking, going to cost a lot of money to change that.
Scotland are using windmills and are producing two times more electricity than they need so they do work. One option is not going to be a fix all solution. We don't have perfect solutions at the moment but they sure as hell beat coal plants. Sulfur hexaflouride are in regular power plants as well as electrical sub-stations.

I am still wondering where all that electricity is going to come from let alone the money.
Solar panels, windmills, hydro-power.... So many options and I am sure there are more on the way. There are so many areas where we can cut money to focus on saving what is important. If we don't do anything to deal with the climate crisis we won't have a need for money anymore.

Perhaps Geography is one of those sciences she is not so good at.
Green New Deal, covered here extensively.
"Overhauling transportation systems" to reduce emissions — including expanding electric car manufacturing, building "charging stations everywhere," and expanding high-speed rail to "a scale where air travel stops becoming necessary";
Just need a train that operates on water.
See, she didn't say ban. She said "expanding high-speed rail to a scale where air travel stops becoming necessary". Other countries and even airlines are planning on doing the same. For example KLM will replace Amsterdam to Brussels flights with rail. There are so many domestic flights that could be replaced by train.

No, she has not given up on school. She has graduated with A's in all subjects except PE.

AOC did and no you can not go by Train to Chile, not even Mexico.
Source on that? As far as I know she said she wanted to make air travel "unnecessary". Like I said, I'm sure you can find the answer if you google it. Greta explained it in an interview how she is going to get there.
1 minute ago, Boiler said:Bus and Train apparently, mainly Bus then and maybe a waterbus?
Presumably zero emissions?
At least way less than on an airplane.

I think many are using conferencing. I know I am. Now if we believe the Democrats here, air travel will become banned, so it won’t be a problem.
Air travel is a huge problem but the democrats have not said they're banning it.

My point is why not just use video conferencing and reduce her carbon footprint?
We could ask the same questions to companies who are flying all over the world to meetings instead of using video conferencing.

A train to Chile? Wonder how they are getting across the Darien Gap?
Why don't you google it? She has explained it previously so I doubt it would be hard for you to find that info.

I have never said I did not believe in climate change as the Earth’s climate is in a continued state of flux. Lomborg proposed logical and real potentials, not just feel good rhetoric. As to Ms. Thunberg sailing to Chile, the solar hatch has already returned to Europe, so I expect she will be taking a conventionally powered boat down there.
Sorry, my bad. She is actually taking the train according to the Daily Mail.
Lomborg keeps contradicting himself so I don't really know what he wants. Except subsidizing solar panels.

So they get a pass?
Why would they? We are all living on the same planet. Everyone needs to help reduce CO2 and prevent an increase of 1.5C or higher.

I love liberal logic
China has issues because the entire world buys from them. Love how you guys can manage to throw Trump into any discussion here.

She doesn’t fly? I heard she is going to Chile, How is she getting there?
So what is the difference between her and Mr. Lomborg?
She is sailing again.
I'm actually surprised you are even mentioning Lomborg as some kind of opposite of Greta since Lomborg agree that we need to deal with climate change.

And Ms. Thunberg is a climate scientist?
She has never claimed to be. All she does is urging people to listen to climate scientists.

So why doesn’t she practice what she preaches? The amount of CO2 she is generating by her activities is enormous, she could do everything via video conference instead of generating a Prince Harry carbon footprint.
She does practice as she preaches 🙄 She is vegan, she doesn't fly etc.

you would be amazed of the amount of HCs emitted from battery electric cars. Lots of plastics in those batteries going though some heating cycles. If we listen to the other spokespeople for this issue, AOC, and the stellar Democrat candidates, we only have ten years left. If you want to listen to someone that actually is logical, list to Bjorn Lomborg.
Why would I listen to someone who's not even a climate scientists about the climate?

China is building coal fired stations not just in China but in many other countries:
https://www.cnn.com/2019/09/28/asia/china-coal-plant-inner-mongolia-intl-hnk/index.html
But even as China reiterated its commitment to reducing emissions last week in New York, earlier this month at least three large, new coal-fired power stations appeared to be either operating or under construction in Inner Mongolia in northern China -- including Mengneng Xilin.
And....
Or are you happy to ignore the Medical Science.
So you're more bothered by a 16 year old autistic girl who had anorexia and select mutism but not the fact that we are destroying the planet?

Your point? Why the obsession with China?

I am not saying expensive is better either. I am saying we just need to do what is necessary for future generations to be able to live on this planet..
I also hope that when you guys say 10 years you know that it might be less than that. And no, it's not us people having 10 years left on this earth. We have 10 years to possibly do something about the warming. However, that estimate doesn't include feedback loops etc. The fact that we have huge amounts of methane being released from melting permafrost is definitively troublesome.
