gaia12 reacted to kmargaret in Travel to Canada with eTA with Green card extension I-797 letter
Hi everyone,
What gaia12 and zuluweta said is absolutely right. This is is what I did on December 2018. I applied online for an eTA because I was traveling by air (I put the expiration date adding the 18 months the extension letter says). I printed the approval they sent to my email . And when the travel agent ask for my "visa" I presented the eTA email (he said that's my visa). In Canada the immigration officer ask me for my green card and I told her that I have an extension letter and I showed them together. She asked me the usual questions and that was it. From Canada to NY was easier. They are nicer I presented my green card and the extension letter to the travel agent and she just asked for my address in NY. The immigration officer asked the usual.
Thanks to all of you in this forum I could visit my family with this situation because I called every where (consulate of Canada in NY, uscis, Canada embassy) and nobody waned to tell me what to do. So thank you guys!!

gaia12 got a reaction from cablewyres in I-751 January 2017 Filers
I wanted to share my I-751 + N400 combo interview experience that took place earlier this week.
Details:
I-751 CSC Jan 2017 filer
Filed N400 in Feb 2018
N400 and I751 approved this week
My wife and I went together with all supporting documents. There was significant rush and we were called in ~1.5 hours after our scheduled interview time. The officer was very friendly and started off by saying that he'd first need to adjudicate I-751. He asked for documents to prove our relationship is in good-faith. We showed him joint documents since our marriage till present. I was describing all the documents and the officer did not ask my wife anything. Then the officer escorted my wife out saying that he needs to review the N400 with me alone. Once he came back, he told me he was satisfied about our relationship and is approving the I751, and would then move onto N400.
For the N400, he first asked basic questions from my application - e.g. wife's birthday, our address, my birthday, DOB, country of birth etc. Then I did the English and civics test. Upon completing these, he said he's approving the N400 and spent some time on paperwork. At the end, he asked when I'd like to attend the oath ceremony and confirmed a date, and said that a document with ceremony details would be mailed to my house. He gave me a document stating that I was recommended for citizenship. He also mentioned that the certificate of naturalization would be made available at the oath ceremony.
I have gained a lot from VJ forums and this community has been very helpful all along! I wish all of you the very best! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. I am happy to help based on whatever I have learned from my experience.

gaia12 reacted to KULtoATL in Change of address question
If you want to stay on the safe side due to your prior experience (re: missing green card) and that you can maintain your relative's address as your mailing address, that's all good. However, changing your address with USCIS does not trigger mail forwarding because they will send the mails directly to your most updated address NOT to the initial address and then only to be forwarded to the new one. Either way, it's up to you

I took my green card for ID, and the biometrics appointment letter.

I agree with Neilsqueen. My biometrics appointment letter was dated 3 days after my package reached USCIS. It's highly unlikely that the officer went through the entire package in that much time.
I have had another experience where uscis customer service did not provide accurate info. Sometimes you need to call a few times and talk to multiple customer service reps to get an accurate answer.

I think you're exactly right. It just sounds like more old garbage from the USCIS mis-information line.

I don't think he is correct. I've read cases on here where people have received RFE's 6 months after submitting their packet. I doubt this too because they would have had to go thru the entire package and review it to see if everything is there. I would think they would just approve or deny at this point and not wait a year to give an answer. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong. I would love to be wrong lol.

Here's a statement from DHS today that throws some light on the current status: https://www.dhs.gov/news/2017/01/31/transcript-media-availability-executive-order-secretry-kelly-and-dhs-leadership
Quoting from the link above: "The people affected by this order, we denied boarding to 721 travelers that had visas from the affected countries, but we actually processed for waivers 1,060 lawful permanent residents of the United States, as well as an additional 75 waivers granted to immigrant visa and nonimmigrant visa holders. To make sure everybody understands how the process is working today, lawful permanent residents and special immigrant visa holders are allowed to board their flights foreign and will be processed for a waiver upon arrival."
As cocolucho said, it seems like green card holders will not be affected. And all coverage so far addresses only the seven countries affected by the ban so for all other nationalities, travel should be normal as before.

I have had friends who arrived over the weekend and did not experience any problems when passing immigration. That being said, they came from South America and from countries were the new temporary immigration ban is not affecting them. I think it is a personal decision to travel or not, and if you do make sure to bring all documents needed to get back in like the extension letter and your green card. US citizens and residents are not being affected by the temporary ban. "The Department of Homeland Security said it would no longer bar green-card holders from those countries from entering the United States."

It's free and easy to get the transcript and I think USCIS prefers them to prove the taxes were filed. You just go to this site:
https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript
create an account and they provide the transcript instantly that you can print out. We also sent copies of our actual tax returns.

I'd also reprint and date the I-751 form within your 90-day window. Not sure if that really matters but I'd do it just to be on the safe side.

I think so.
I don't think is the date you write on the cover letter or the I-751 form because mine was dated a few dates before, but I think it is stamp at the post office/the date it is mailed. Hope this helps!

Very sorry to hear, Karmen & Joe. It might be better to use a new money order if the current one is dated prior to your 90-day window.
USPS should definitely refund/exchange your money order for a new one.

gaia12 reacted to KayDeeCee in Questions about submitting AOS application
-On the G-325A it asks for my address for the last 5 years. It happens that I have moved multiple times over the last 5 years and we can only fit 5 addresses that account for the last 4 years and 3 months in the spaces provided. Is this sufficient, or should we add the last address onto a second application form? If so, do we complete the entire form, or just add the one address? If you need more space, then include an attachment sheet with the form name, question#, question and answer to the question. Then sign and date it. Pn the form itself put 'See attachment". -On the I-485, part 2, it says "I am applying for adjustment of permanent resident status because", Should we choose 'A' for this answer? We're filing I-130 and I-485 at the same time. Yes a. It states there '..or a relative visa petition filed with this application..'
-He is a researcher and is filing the I-131 to be able to leave the country to do research during the process. Does he need a letter from his university explaining his circumstances to support this application, or just the application? An adjustment applicant does not fill out Part 4 stating a reason and purpose of their travels, and you do not need to supply the extra statement.
No explanation or reason is needed when filing the I-131 with a pending I-485 as an adjustment applicant. It states this in the instructions on page 8.
See the OR between #2 and #3. If you are filing the I-131 with the I-485, then you need nothing. If filing the I-131 after the I-485, then no reason statement and a copy of the receipt notice from filing the I-1485 is all you need.

That's not correct. H-1 is an exception. See attached from I-131 instructions. OP can use AP or valid H-1B visa to travel during pending AOS.
