DIFFERENT people got RFE for not sending the birth certificate and even the ones who sent them got RFE requesting the LONG VERSION of birth certificate, even sending ALL PAGES of their passport. The instructions say you CAN send ALL pages, HOWEVER if they have doubts on the citizenship for any reasons they will ask for the birth certificate. Let's be honest and agree than seeing the birth certificate is way easier than checking if the petitioner sent ALL pages of his passport tho. Think like somebody who sees many cases a day. I am not questioning the instructions, I am just giving my opinion based on facts that people say here. I suppose you don't make time to read other threats before replying and probably that's why the majority of things you say seem so distant from the reality, since it's all based on the raw instructions (For instance the post about CSC and TSC). Emcia gave her opinion based on facts from people's experience here as well. The instructions MUST be followed, I agree, however the things are not so clear and even at the USCIS they don't follow their own directions. For instance they requested wedding plans evidences from a couple applying for a K1 Visa and the guy was thinking about making a video of his meeting with their wedding planner or venues visits. WHERE in the instructions you read we need to send EVIDENCES of WEDDING PLANNING? NO, they don't exist. The instructions say you need to clearly state you have to get married within 90 days from the beneficiary arrival, I didn't do so and got approved with no RFE, it's the other side but what I am trying to say is that it depends on the person looking at your case.
    Whitetiger,
The petitioner should be able to request a copy of the birth certificate online, it shouldn't be hard to get, but I guess it depends where the person is from. In my case my fiancé (USC) just went online at the Vital Records website (He is from New York), he paid and after few days it was sent to his place (Short version). Just to add more proof of his citizenship I also included the bio page of his passport. The stamps I sent along with the evidences of meeting in person (I didn't send all the pages since we had the bc). I agree with Emcia and I think it would be better to send the birth certificate as well, but if you don't have anymore and not able to get a new one, just send all the pages of the passport. Some got RFE for that but some were OK. Even though we o everything perfect we never know what can happen. I messed up so many things and got approved and my interview is properly schedule!!!
Since you asked if you're missing something: I would add a Cover Letter to list everything you're sending them. Don't forget the payment (We sent a check). I assume you all don't have any criminal records (If so you need certified copies) and never been married before (If so, Divorce Decrees).
    Good luck!!!

This time has been torture, but we keep repeating "it's months for the rest of our lives." thrilled to finally see all the good news coming. Looking forward to moving to the new forum with all the others before us. Happy Friday all!

Made this thread for those of us who've received our NOA2s and want to continue asking questions and sharing experiences with other filers that we've come to know - without upsetting or annoying any June filers that haven't received their approvals yet!
That being said - congrats on all the recent approvals!!!! It's happening!!

We found out that our case was shipped to the Department of State on Friday, 12/12 - anyone else get their case shipped that day too? Or have any NVC/DOS experiences to share?

I thought about it too. When I had a question about the police certificates I started a separate tread. Good idea!!

Since there is so many Syrian refugees living in Turkey there should be a Syrian consulate or embassy. I'd contact them and see if they can obtain a new one on your behalf. How old is the old one?

You need to check the specific requirements for your embassy. For example, UK allows them up to 12 months but Morocco only allows them for 6. It should be on the embassy website.

If your certificate is for a country you lived in but are no longer resident in, its valid indefinitely (i have researched this, as I have same issue) so long as it was issued after you ceased being resident and you have not resumed residency there.
If you are resident in the country, then I know the US embassy in UK says that it accepts them for 12 months, but other countries may vary.

Most police certificates are valid for one year, and they are accepted at the embassy. You will need to post this question in your embassy group to see if your consulate only accepts those obtained 6 or 12 months prior to interview.

Totally 100000% understand how you feel. We got our NOA2 on Tuesday night...after 187 days, an RFE and an argument (literally an hour before I got the approval email) over when we'd hear something, what to do in the meantime, all the stress it's causing and not being together for the holidays. It was like divine intervention when we got our approval - like it's meant to be, it's worth it, don't give up and have faith.
It's a trying time for all of us and can cause SO much stress. And it doesn't help with the holidays coming up, and I know until you get your approval hearing this doesn't help, but your time will come. Probably sooner than you think. I hope your file is on an officer's desk as we speak.
Hang in there and know that you have support here from people going through the same thing. <3

I understand how you feel. I felt the same way and even made my self sick. NOA2 arrived after 177 days. But if you keep stressing yourself out it will only make you feel worse. Pray... that's the only thing that helped.
Stay positive and any day now you will get approved.
