Good day everybody. So I have a question about my case which is a little uncommon. My I-751 has been pending since June 2017 coming up to 14 months (CSC FILER) and I became eligible to early file for my N-400 this past July. However given several reasons (gathering of evidence, lack of time) I postponed the filing and I am going to file it this August.
I could be possibly shipping to boot camp with the Marines within the next couple of months. I think that judging by the timelines of my field office (OKC 6.5 to 14 months to process N-400) and other members' experiences I would be able to attend my biometrics appointment just fine. I gather it takes about a month for them to send you the notice.
However what worries me is the interview for my N-400. I am going to be a total of 6 months away for training, my residency is still where I currently live and my spouse will stay here as well. But if the interview comes up while I am in training I won't be able to attend. What happens in this case? Am I going to get a denial, can I request a postponement. I guess I am taking a gambit by filing now. Normally is taking like 8 months after you file the N-400/I-751 pending combo at least for CSC filers I have seen (You could correct me if I am wrong) but still I don't know when I am going to ship it could be next month, it could be December so it is quite a dilemma. Thoughts?
Hi Jack88
I would be tempted to postpone the N400 application until you know for certain you'd be able to make it to the interview. If you have your I-751 application pending, you don't techically *need* to apply for N400 just yet.
However, there may be military exceptions that I am unaware of and hopefully if so, more knowledgable folk will answer your query. I would suggest making this question it's own thread/topic as you'll get more eyes on it that way.
Best of luck!

I'm a June 2017 I-751 filer. No new Extension Letter, whatsoever. And not just me. So, I wouldn't rely on that - just go and get the passport stamped with I-551, if you already scheduled an Infopass appointment..
You should make a copy of the green card - it can be taken by USCIS in exchange for a stamp. Some offices keep it, some - don't , but you never know until you are there.Good luck!
Thank you for the advice! I definitely won't rely on it coming, more like I am just hoping it does to save me that headache.

Try checking available info pass appointments early morning, like around 6am. Worked out for me twice.
Goodluck!
Thank you for the tip!

This is news to me, and very good news indeed. May still not get the 2nd letter in time given our travel schedule, but it is nice to know. Thank you!
You're welcome

Second letter? What second letter? Is such a thing even possible? If anyone has direct experience with a second letter, please let us all know, think a bunch of us would be interested in learning how to get that.
Yes it is possible. Review the ROC threads, July and August 2017 filers have been receiving a second extension letter, so the 12 months moves to 18 months. I assume due to extreme backlog.
8 hours ago, Luckycuds said:A second extension letter is being sent out - extending another 6 months to the original 12 months extension. This is because it is taking more than a year to approve. July and August filers have been receiving them the past week. Good news because you may not have to get a stamp.
Yes, this. I hope I get one soon so I don't have to get the info pass appointment/stamp.

CSC filer and still no extension letter.
Same here, I'm not sure any CSC August 2017 filers have theirs yet.

Also, since I am applying based on the 3-year rule, I didn't fill-out the residence and employment history portions for the full five years. I did it for the past 3 and a half years only, since I know that is what they are only looking for. I am not applying based on 5-year residency rule, so I am just giving them what they are asking for. I didn't get any flags in the end, and was able to submit with no hassle.
Keeping my fingers crossed! Good luck to my fellow August 2018 filers!
Oh darn I wish Id known that, I did the whole five years and it was SO time consuming.

My letter will expire November 6th and I have a trip booked to England for Christmas.
Hoping that I get the magical second extension letter before then to avoid the infopass appointment, sounds like some people have been receiving a second letter.

They are supposedly mailing out 18 month extension letters to everyone with a pending application but the execution seems rather spotty. Some have received the letter, others (like my wife) have not. The passport stamp was easy to get for my wife. I guess it all depends on how easy it is to get an infopass appointment at your local office and how far it is from you.
Hopefully you get action by Christmas. 😀
Thank you! Portland, OR is our local office and about a 3 hour drive (depending on snow) over the mountain. My extension letter will "expire" November 6th.
Hoping for some action too! Thank you!

This month seems to be the first real month that they're examining cases filed in April 2017 with people getting approvals, RFE's and/or interviews. So maybe you have 4 months?
BTW, the 03/05 transfer message is something almost everyone received and doesn't seem to have a bearing on when your case gets picked up for action.
Thank you for the info!
I have a trip to the UK planned for Christmas and am hoping I get the additional extension letter prior to that (approval seems unlikely) to avoid the hassle of an info pass appointment/the sacred passport stamp!

So then, the green card extension applies to everything right? He can leave the country and come back, work the same as normal, correct? Also, what sort of information/proof should I provide? We don't have enough credit/income yet to buy a house (that's what I get for living out of the country and being self-employed).
Correct, he can travel, work, continue as normal.

Filed at CSC in August 2017
Case was transferred to local office 03/05/2018
Any ideas on what my timeline will be moving forward?
-
My estimated case completion was just added- it says 12 months (August 2019).

Just submitted my N400. Might as well add more waiting to my waiting!

Just submitted my application online... let the waiting begin!

A bunch of us VSC filers got letters between Thursday and today so far, I think some CSC filers in other threads got theirs too.
42 minutes ago, paro said:Yes August filers from VSC are getting another 6 months extension letters
Thank you for the info! Very interesting...
16 minutes ago, usmsbow said:So far no August CSC filers have reported to have gotten an extension letter yet, just VSC.
Hmm I wonder why

I don't have time to read back through all the recent pages... am I correct in understanding people are receiving a second extension letter from the original 12 month letter? Any CSC filers receiving this letter? Someone please take pity on me and catch me up!

I am an August 2018 filer too! I will be gathering all my documentation and hopefully applying this evening.

You can apply 90days prior to 3rd anniversary as a LPR with or without 10yr card.
To confirm the third anniversary is three years from the date that our 2 year greencard was issued, correct?

Well according to the USCIS website they are currently processing applications from August 3rd 2016 so looks like we have about a year to go folks!

I had my biometrics in Portland (OR) today. 45 minutes late due to traffic but fortunately they still let me in! 7 hours total of driving for a two minute appointment. So frustrating!
Waiting for I-751, need to know when we can get 551 stamp
